This game is an absolute masterpiece !!!! Last time i have felt such emotions on a game was when i played outer wilds. The only downside i could find was that the game babysits you too much in my opinion but appart from that it is a solid 9.5/10, simply wonderful game thank you developpers for blessing us with this banger <3
I could hardly call this a game. You walk around, lighting candles and hiding from monsters. It's all really primitive and you've done it thousands of times. Your companion gets stuck on the environment WAY to much too. I understand WHY they charge so much, but even on sale for $17.99, you're not getting much here. I wouldn't say the story is nonsensical, but it's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ random, that I have no clue what's going on. The art style and music is top notch though. The overall experience is just alright, but I wouldn't recommend this game to a friend.
Game is exactly what it looks like; beautiful aesthetic, shallow gameplay and storytelling. Generally I think this works in the game's favour, reducing the friction and time moving from set-piece to set piece while still feeling like you're playing rather than watching. The same can be said for the length, which at the four and half hours I spent was enough to feel meaningful without outstaying its welcome. Recommended if a Tim Burton themepark sounds appealing.
"Sorrowful Happiness" Are the two words I would use to describe this game if that's all I had. You can tell the developers put a huge amount of care into this work of art, and it is a work of art. It might not be long, at around 5hrs my first playthrough but it does have some replayabilitty to find collectibles and such you missed along the way. You go on this beautiful journey, following your own story but then making stops to aid in multiple other heartfelt stories. The artwork of the claymation is such a wonderful world to explore. The one con I would say about this game is there is no FOV adjustment. If you are sensitive to low FOV like I am you may not want to try this, however, with that being said I am quite sensitive to low FOV and I did ok. The game is essentially a walking simulator with mild gameplay in between. As such the slow movement I was able to do didn't affect me negatively hardly at all. High recommended for being such a breath of fresh air in the gaming industry.
I'm honestly pretty conflicted about this. It's one of those titles I would honestly put as "neutral". The overall aesthetic is great, scenes, mobs, npc's, environments, etc. All top notch. That being said the game has some pretty glaring problems I never see mentioned. They were clearly going for a claymation stop-motion style, which would be great if the animation shenanigans they used didn't break half the time. The constant back and forth between normal animations and what they were trying to do was really hard to ignore once I noticed it. The actual narrative was done in too esoteric of a fashion. I understood what was going on, but I ended up not caring about any of the characters besides the flaming pot that follows you around. That brings me to what for me at least is this game's biggest problem, the last leg of the game or the ending.
What is clearly meant to be the "good" ending has you, the pot, and the house all dead. I'm beyond tired of this trend where stories aren't allowed to have a happy ending.
It was certainly an interesting experience, but I was left grossly unfulfilled due to the reasons mentioned.
Probably the most beautiful Horror game that I've personally ever played. Great story, The music was so haunting but also very calming. the stop motion art style and puppetry was gorgeous. I'm going to be thinking about this game for a while. I did run into a few bugs and there were one or two times a monster spotted me when I thought I should have been safe. but in the end it was a positive experience. Highly recommended~
I wouldn't recommend the game for a hardcore gamer but rather for someone who'd enjoy just looking at the aesthetics of the entire thing. For me, I found the stop motion, hand crafted art more interesting than actually playing the game. If you just want to enjoy the visuals and the audio, then yes this is beautifully done and a more slow paced, kind of calming in a way, game. It is a lot of just lighting your way and hiding from monsters but I wanted it more for it's visuals and audio. It has a simple game mechanic and is quite nice from the stress of some other games. I'm enjoying it so far.
This is the product of people who really got into "A Nightmare Before Christmas" as teenagers. Great movie by the way. But some people really took it too far with the hot topic shirts and backpacks. And in this case, a "game". But unlike A Nightmare Before Christmas, The Midnight Walk is extremely boring. Visuals are dulled by lighting and bad contrast. Which is most of the selling point with this "game". Don't waste your time.
DO NOT BUY this if you're expecting actual VR support. It doesn't work no matter what I've tried. Which is a shame, as I really wanted to play this.
I'm sad I can't refund this because I ended up getting it 2 months ago and just played it recently. To put it simply, this is a very nice looking walking simulator with occasional very light exploration elements to find collectibles like models of the characters, audio logs, and records of the game's music. The gameplay itself is shallow and really boils down to pointing your companion in a direction, watching him interact with something, hiding from a monster by entering a wardrobe, then proceeding into the next area. As a side note, this game's camera made me nauseous and I had to stop for a minute here and there before I could continue playing. This may not apply to you or many others for that matter, but I think it's important to mention it as a possibility if you are also prone to these kinds of things.
