The Message from Deep Space

If you ever read Contact (or watched/read Arrival or Project Hail Mary) and thought the language negotiation was interesting but wanted to know more, this game is for you. I'm sure I read about a maths/science paper from the seventies suggesting the approach the aliens take in this game - establish ideas through sequences, patterns, maths, and repetition. Deciphering it is very difficult but very rewarding. The messages at the end of act 2 feel like such an incredible achievement despite their apparent simplicity. Try the demo! The save carries on to the real game if you buy, and it has more than enough content to tell you if you like it

Ça fait vraiment du bien de tomber sur un jeu aussi original. The Message from Deep Space propose quelque chose de vraiment différent, avec une vraie identité. On sent qu'il y a eu un énorme travail de game design derrière : tout est pensé avec soin, les énigmes évoluent naturellement et on n'a quasiment jamais cette frustration d'être complètement bloqué. Le jeu réussit à nous guider intelligemment sans nous mâcher le travail, et c'est extrêmement satisfaisant. J'ai aussi adoré les dialogues entre chaque énigme. Ils sont drôles, légers, souvent très intéressants et on apprend plein de choses au fil de l'aventure. Ils donnent beaucoup de personnalité au jeu et rendent la progression encore plus agréable. Franchement, c'est le genre de jeu qu'on aimerait voir plus souvent !

If you can get through the first few math heavy chapters, a really excellent translation game rests underneath. Highly recommend.

If you enjoyed the language aspects of Heaven's Vault or Sethian, this game will do a good job of scratching the itch. I loved it, even when it got frustrating.

Quel jeu ! Une idée très ambitieuse, exécutée quasiment à la perfection, ça donne un classique qui restera une référence pour des années et des années. C'est bien foutu, bien dosé, bien écrit, émouvant, passionnant. J'ai versé ma larme à la fin. Le jeu peut faire peur au début si on n'est pas fan de maths, mais je vous jure que ça vaut le coup de persévérer. Le jeu a tellement à offrir.

10 hours in so far and this is a good one. I'm gonna keep going and I suspect I still have a ways to go. It feels like this might be a love it or hate it type game, but as something I can play in small segments in the evening that also makes me think it's been really fun. Fair amount of math and logic (mostly actually), but its delivered in a pretty straightforward way delivering lots of little Eureka moments that make these kind of games satisfying. I also like the narrative, and the convo's between the scientists (and their kinda stupid boss).

This game is fantastic start to end. The narrative and rule exploration married witha fair hint system and killer sountrack. I am in love and can't recommend enough at such a great pricepoint

Absolutely love this game so far. I'm an engineer and love science fiction and this is incredible. The retro-style for the computer, the music. It's great. And it feels very realistic for how first contact, with an alien probe that is rather than a full alien, would go. Slowly working from a common mathematical/physics ground and building up concepts first in math and then expanding. Testing for pattern recognition and critical thinking. It's just very cool.
