Still one of the strategy games I find myself coming back to quite often. That said, the Collection version ships with bugs from the original release that were never officially fixed, and a few are noticeable enough to affect your playthrough. Patch before you start. I dont even play this game my dad has nostalgia and really wanna play it so i happened to buy him this game and he kept playing it non stop i guess the playtime show how much he enjoyed it he make me play it once and i get why he loved it
Man! I played so many hours when it came out. I still have the boxed copy. Nowadays, it needs some love because the game is old and starts showing its age. This said, nowadays this is only for fans of the series. Rome is just better, and Shogun 2 is more fun if you can run it
Classic Total War game. Still holds up and plays fantastically good on Proton
Classic total war - Great classic game play
I've lost count of the many, many hours I have played this game. I only stopped playing because it did not run well on later Window versions. I gave my original CD to a friend and started playing Shogun 2. Now, lo and behold a version I can play again. It is like greeting a old friend you have not seen for years, but talk to each other as if you met yesterday. I've got reacquainted and life is good. So thank you for the updated version from a grateful old gamer. Would I recommend the game to you? Darn right I would. it is still the best game in the Total War franchise. Enjoy!
Classic total war game. As the oldest installment in the series many feutures are basic however it is always a great nostalgia trip.
6/10
TOTAL WAR: SHOGUN - не могу сказать, что играл много! Куплено для коллекции игр по Total War! Палец вверх из-за благодарности авторам за другие игры серии, в которых провел сотни часов когда-то (Medieval 2, Rome 2, Shogun 2)
A Timeless Strategy Classic I just finished 100% completing both the main campaign and the Mongol Invasion in Shogun: Total War, The very first!! and I honestly had an absolute blast the entire time. For a game released in 2000, it still delivers some of the most tense, atmospheric, and rewarding strategy gameplay I’ve experienced. The campaign map is clean and focused, but every decision feels meaningful. Expansion, diplomacy, honour, clan management — it all matters. There’s no bloat, just pure strategic depth. The battles are where it really shines. Watching lines of yari ashigaru hold the line while samurai crash into combat never gets old. Morale is EVERYTHING in this game, and when a well-timed cavalry charge collapses an enemy flank, it feels earned. It’s slower and more methodical than modern Total War titles, but that’s exactly why it works so well. Positioning, terrain, and timing actually matter. 100%ing the main campaign was incredibly satisfying, but the Shogun: Total War - The Mongol Invasion expansion added a whole new layer of challenge. Facing the Mongol hordes completely changes the pacing — suddenly you’re on the defensive against relentless, high-quality armies. It pushed me to adapt, rethink my strategies, and really master the mechanics. Finishing both campaigns felt like a genuine accomplishment. There’s also something special about the atmosphere. The music, the UI, the pre-battle speeches — it all creates this grounded, almost meditative samurai-era vibe that newer games sometimes lose in scale. Even today, this game proves that strong design outlives graphics. If you’re a strategy fan and want to experience where the Total War series began, this is absolutely worth your time. 100% completed. Zero regrets. Still legendary.
