The Mermaid Mask

This is the best game of the Detective Grimoire franchise. Tangle Tower, the previous game in the series, was a game a friend recommended to me years ago, after they themselves picked it up on a whim. I was enthralled - especially after recognizing that this eclectic, artful point'n'click adventure was, in fact, the sequel to a flash game I had played nearly a decade ago by that point, one I never finished. After binging both Tangle Tower and going back to complete Secret of The Swamp, I waited with baited breath for this game when it was announced. Tangle Tower was a 9/10 for me. The Mermaid's Mask is one of the very elusive 10/10 experiences I have ever had in gaming. Gorgeous art, the culmination of years of hard work clearly paying off in ways I hadn't expected. The music? Beautiful, surpassing even the fantastic soundtrack of Tangle Tower. The characterization is solid and very fun, every member of the game's colorful roster being memorable and eccentric, but very pertinently human in ways that I don't think the previous game captured (though not unintentionally: if you've played Tangle Tower, you know what kind of isolations breeds personalities that delightfully weird.) and all quite compelling. If you have not, in fact, played Tangle Tower: go play it. It's good enough that I'd say buy it at full price, and I'm normally a frugal gamer. Play it, love it, if you want more, go back to Secret of The Swamp, the first (canon) game in the series. Then come back to The Mermaid Mask, and prepare to have the standards set by those previous entries blown out of the (heh) water. The Mermaid Mask is an incredible game, and frankly, an unforgettable experience of mine. I was lucky enough to finish it with my final session coinciding with the birthday of the friend who originally recommended me Tangle Tower, and it was a wonderful time. (I seriously hope that mention of "four entries" is a hint towards three more Detective Grimoire games, but I understand if it's just a joke about this being the fourth, if you count the 2007 prototype.) 탱글타워도 너무 재미있게 플레이해서 엄청 기대하면서 구매함 기대한 것 그 이상이였음 지난 탱글 타워에서 엥 싶었던 부분이나 이해가 좀 어려운 부분들이 있었는데 이번엔 3D 애니메이션으로 상세하게 표현돼서 이해하기 쉽고 몰입하기 좋았음 더욱 깊어진 스토리에 엔딩까지 여운이 남음 지난 탱글타워 세계관이랑 연결돼서 머메이드 하기 전에 탱글타워 복기하고 플레이하면 더 재미있을 듯 한국어 번역이 매우 퀄리티 좋음 빨리 다음편도 나왔으면 좋겠다 제ㅔ발 시메트리 신시아 귀여워~

I absolutely love this series, and puzzle mystery games in general. I often have a problem of them being a bit to easy, but this game does a great job of balancing challenging connections and easier puzzles. Also the art is beautiful!

This game improves on all aspects of the previous two Detective Grimoire games! The characters, the atmosphere, the puzzles, the ending!! Super enjoyable the whole way through, trying to figure out the mystery and when it ended, it felt perfect. I really don't know how'd they'd make a new Detective Grimoire game after this one.

A phenomenal amount of love put into this game.

Very enjoyable game. As always, great voice lines and little jokes. Various puzzles which were not hardcore difficult. It's fun when the solution is almost right in front of our noses :D

As an Ace Attorney diehard I cannot help but compare this game to the series. This is an incredible, 10ish hour experience (about a single Ace Attorney case) that has 1) all the incredible characters you would expect from an Ace Attorney case BUT with incredible voice actors and 2) logic puzzles protecting some of the clues. If that doesn’t sell you on the game I cannot help you, but you should get it anyway!
