My mom got me this game as an early Christmas present because she knows I am a huge fan of the series and similar things like MTG Bloomburrow and Armello. I stopped playing once the game auto-unstuck me when I jumped in a bush and caused my progress to reset after finding a barrel of corn. Like actual corn-on-the-cob, in a game set around 14th century in an English countryside. It feels like the devs did no research for the time period. Good: - 2D Art Average: - Voice acting is alright, similar quality to standard ebooks. Bad: - 3d models have muddy textures and are ugly to look at. - The level design is subpar. - This game has a horrible scent mechanic that blurs the vision and makes it hard to see. - 3d Models are not properly made, many things have holes. - Trees around the environment are floating. - Actual corn-on-the-cob in a 14th century English countryside. (Same with the potatoes but some recipes in the official Redwall cookbook does call on these.) - Takes too long to reach the actual stealth sections. - You burn your paws on the zip-lines instead of using a device to go down them. Overall: The game feels like it was made by a team with little talent and time. Stuff like floating trees and burning your hands on the zip-line makes it seem like there was no passion. Having actual corn-on-the-cob as an official thing now in Redwall is genuinely horrible and would probably have Brian Jacques rolling in his grave. I was really hopeful for this game but unfortunately it is an awful addition to the Redwall franchise.
Overall a decent game
If you are a fan of Redwall it helps a LOT to look over the shortcomings of this game.. Graphics are little outdated, but as I said if you are a fan, or you enjoy a good story, it doesn't bother that much. Love the story, but the info dump when you speak to the characters can be little bit overwhelming sometimes. It's solid 3/5, but could be 4/5 after they (hopefully) fix the bugs. PS. As a personal note, I did not care the "easter egg" pop culture references in the dialogues. Didn't feel natural, and as a player I was there to experience Redwall, not Back to the future etc.
Such a charming game. If you like the Redwall series, you are in for a treat. The Scout Anthology offers you a chance to immerse yourself in Redwall! The gameplay emphasizes stealth and strategy, requiring players to navigate through enemy territory, solve environmental puzzles, and make choices that impact the story’s progression. The stealth mechanics are accessible yet occasionally simplistic, with basic enemy AI that can sometimes detract from the tension. However, the game’s use of scent trails, sound cues, and environmental awareness adds a unique layer of immersion, reflecting the heightened senses of its woodland protagonists. Exploration is another highlight, as the game’s levels are lovingly crafted to evoke the dense forests, serene abbey grounds, and hidden dangers of Mossflower. Players are rewarded for their curiosity with collectibles, lore entries, and character interactions that deepen the world-building. The heart of The Scout Anthology lies in its narrative, which stays true to the tone and spirit of the Redwall series. Each episode introduces memorable characters, heartfelt moments, and moral dilemmas that challenge players to consider their actions, hallmarks of Jacques’ storytelling. Visually, The Scout Anthology captures the charm of Redwall with its painterly art style and attention to detail. The character designs are endearing, and the environments are lush and inviting, though some animations can appear dated. The Lost Legends of Redwall™: The Scout Anthology is a heartfelt tribute to the Redwall series that will delight longtime fans and newcomers alike. For those yearning to step into the paws of a Redwall scout and explore Mossflower Woods, this anthology is a journey worth undertaking.
They nailed the Redwall theme. The dialogue is SO good. I found the conversations that had health meters to be thought provoking. The mouse-themed mechanics, like scrambling on all fours to sprint, and following scents, do a good job of making you feel like a mouse. Lastly, every level's environment is a work of art.
Big fan of redwall since childhood and so far they got the setting right. Playing on a steamdeck so just want to comment on that since its showing unsupported; so far everything works with little to no adjustment. limited fps to 30 and no issues so far. text is readable, havent ran across any slowdowns yet. runs smooth .
Read the reviews bought the game got stuck right at the beginning so returning it
Einstieg
„The Lost Legends of Redwall™: The Scout Anthology“ vom Studio Soma Games basiert auf der legendären Buchreihe von Brian Jacques.
Grafik
Errungenschaften / Achievements
Die Achievements sind größtenteils storybasiert und unkompliziert. Kein krasser Pain, kein New Game Plus.
Preis
Ich habe „The Lost Legends of Redwall™: The Scout Anthology“ am 07.07.2025 für 4,90 € gekauft.
Fazit
In Aller Kürze
• 🐭 Cozy Fantasy-Adventure • 📖 Starker Story-Fokus • 🌲 Atmosphäre > Gameplay • 🎻 Schöner Soundtrack • 📜 Die deutsche Übersetzung ist „speziell“ • ⏳ Kurz & entspannt
Die Rezension spiegelt meine ganz persönliche Meinung zu „The Lost Legends of Redwall™: The Scout Anthology“ wider.
Very small budget game and janky mechanics, but beautiful art and music and good story. Captures the spirit of Redwall quite well. I would love to see what these devs could do with a more mechanically complex game, especially in the world of Redwall.
Extremely clonky interface, controls are not responsive. This is a rip off of many better games.
