Fantastic game! Even though it’s quite short, I had an absolute blast playing it. There are some extra unlockables and random mode challenges, but for me, it started to feel a bit repetitive after finishing the main game. Still, for the price, it’s an easy recommendation, totally worth it!
One of my new favorite, quick, one-more-game, games. At first I didn't think I'd get much replay out of this one... seems a bit shallow at first. I won't lie, it IS a bit shallow when compared to many other similar games. For some reason, though, I still keep playing it. The game is just fun, even if/when you have figured out the best builds, etc. Definitely recommended at the low price it sells for. Now, one thing that bothers me about the game is that it doesn't have any synergy or "evolved" type upgrades. That is something that many (most?) other games in this genre do have (the game Gunlocked comes to mind). Like I said, though, it's still very fun without them. I just really hope the dev does a sequel or a DLC for this game that adds more permanent upgrades, synergy upgrades/weapons, achievements (why no achievements for using the handicap options??). I'll be keeping an eye out in case they do.
SUMMARY: A Fun, solid Survivorlike SHUMP with unlockables and pretty good music and design. Not revolutionary, but a fun way to spend a day or two and very enjoyable. So Gunfield is one of those games where it's not groundbreaking and it's not "must play," but is also such a reliable entry in the field it's worth your time. This is what I call a "between game" - something you may play between other titles you're waiting for, but worth your time. So the plot is some anime B.S. happens and you're one of a collection of characters who fly off to battle evil. What do you get? AUTO-SHUMP: Move your ship, firing happens automatically. As simple as that sounds . . . A VARIETY OF WEAPONS AND UPGRADES: In typical Survivorlike fashion you gain experience and unlock options to get new stuff or boost old choices. There's a decent amount here, some quite wild. On that . . . UNLOCKABLES: As you play and level up weapons and upgrades you unlock MORE. That provides a fun challenge and reason for repeat plays. PURCHASABLES: As you play you collect gold and can unlock boosts and new characters. Nothing particuarly spectacular here, but useful. In a neat twist, after maxing out regular upgrades, you can then upgrade characters. INTERESTING ENEMIES: You need the weapons and upgrades to take on enemies and honestly, these are pretty good. Bosses are solid, enemies come in a variety of types and mixes and they need different tactics. BRANCHING LEVELS: Complete a level and other branches become available next time. These also unlock characters you can buy. PLAY OPTIONS: Play the "plot levels" or randomized levels with additional difficulties on. It adds some replayability. NICE PRESENTATION: Good graphics, good music. The menu is barebones but good enough. Gunfield isn't a must play game, but it is a game worth taking a look at. A low price, a very well done game, and something that will keep you engaged and be fun. Get it and put it in your library for that rainy day you're not interested in anything else or between games. I'd actually say this is a game very worthy of a sequel. The team got it right in one, I'd like to see them take it further into a longer, deeper, richer shooter.
It's good game. Definitely like it and recommend to try
A short 'n sweet bullet hell. I really enjoyed the soundtrack, the sprites, and the epic scenes during the final battle. A lot of love was poured into making this game and I highly recommend checking it out.
Very good shrump roguelite. Got the 80s vibe but wonderful art style. Enjoyed it alot.
fun and somewhat challenging, would be a shame to not make a DLC for it
This game is Excellent, and it has a lot more depth than it first appears to have. When you complete the game on the first ship, there is other ships and you can buy more within the game without paying for DLC. The good thing is when you play with a new ship the game is different, offering new challenges.
The many weapons and characters provide a lot of variety for trying out different builds. Very fun.
