About
Enlist in the ranks of The Light Brigade, humanity’s last line of defense, and journey through procedurally-generated battlegrounds as many times as it takes to free the souls of the fallen trapped within.

Realistic gunplay inspired by historical World War weaponry creates tense battles against increasingly difficult enemy soldiers, creatures, and bosses. In VR, aiming, shooting, and reloading bolt-action rifles, machine guns and pistols feels highly immersive and tactile.

Powerful light magic pairs beautifully with gunplay. From infusing your rifle's bullets with light magic to raining fireballs on enemy hordes, magic spells complement your rifle by adding more combat tools to your arsenal.

Start your run with a standard-issue rifle and loot for powerful attachments like explosive charms, poison gun barrels, tactical scopes, silencers, and more. If you fall to enemy fire, survive long enough to retrieve your fallen soul or lose your run progress to permadeath.

Cleanse the souls of the fallen to climb the ranks of The Light Brigade and spend rank points to upgrade your weapon, passive abilities, and spells. Unlock new player classes and gain access to new weapons, loadouts and play styles, adding even more variety to your runs.

Loot treasure chests and enemies during your run to collect an array of magical tarot cards, each with unique powers, buff/debuffs and passive abilities. Acquire stronger versions of these cards to create devastating stacking effects.

Infinitely procedurally-generated battlegrounds make each run completely unique, forcing you to traverse carefully through ever-changing hostile environments. Enemy soldiers lurk around every corner, so position and strategy is crucial for survival.

What led to the world's downfall? What do the Obsidian Forces want? Uncover these mysteries and bring the world back from the brink of total darkness before it's too late.

It's a difficult recommend and I admit I should play more to be sure, and maybe I'll play more, I can't tell, but from what little I've seen, some core aspects of this game fell unfinished and in a way you can tell the game is just abandoned and won't be refined or patched at all. It's a really neat concept of a game and the gunplay feels really tight and satisfying, but it just feels like early access. If you like arcade shooters and rogue-like gameplay loops, I say get it on sale. I had it on my wishlist for a year before it finally went on sale, and I'm glad I didn't pay full price, because I was tempted based on some youtube reviews. I don't know why, but I didn't expect it to be so arcade-y. I thought it would be more open, longer levels where exploration is a focus. That's kind of the narrative theme of the game, from what I can understand. The narrative isn't concrete, but it seems you go into this alternate dimension to try and farm souls from fallen soldiers, like you're in purgatory or something. So, while I didn't expect an open-world, I did expect more open environments. What it actually is is an arcade arena shooter. The levels are quite small and have a finite number of enemies. Once all the enemies are dead, you have as much time and peace as you want to find all the chests and collectibles in the arena. It's not bad and is a nice breather to be able to rest and loot in peace, it's just more like busy work than exploration and I can see it feeling tedious to move around the map to collect chests I already know are there at the end of a level. The arenas are really nicely designed, with lots of cover and verticality, thought you're usually pushed down a very linear path forward. Speaking of movement, there's no analogue control to smooth locomotion. It's full-speed or not. This makes fine-tuning positioning really difficult as well as making movement not feel very immersive. If I get immersed, it just takes one step to literally jerk me out of my immersion. There needs to be some acceleration to movement, at the very least, if there is no analogue input. But this highlights one of the worst core issues: it is painfully obvious this was originally meant to be a teleport-only game. Maybe they realized that with such fast-paced enemies, teleporting all the time would be too much for a frantic player to wrap their head around, which is true. So, they slapped joystick movement on, but never worked on it beyond a cursory pass. But this creates a clash, where teleport is still required and you have to switch back and forth between movement styles to move quick and then fine-tune, but the fine-tuning isn't very fine. It works, but it just doesn't feel like they thought it all the way through. Collision is beyond borked. It was a really bad look to be walking into the hub world for the very first time and running into a non-sensical invisible wall directly in the middle of the obvious pathway, just 10 steps into the game. And there are mysterious invisible walls all over the place. Sometimes you can shoot through a small gap, sometimes you can't. What's really wild is just how many invisible walls that seem more like oversight than anything else I encountered in just an hour of play. I was constantly getting stopped in my tracks and feeling like I was stuck on invisible hooks; it's wild. Performance-wise, it looks great and runs great. No hiccups at all at 120Hz on Quest3 with Virtual Desktop. (Specs say Linux, but I run VR under Win11; just writing the review on Linux.) A big reason for being so performant is the level design as smaller arenas, kind of like Compound VR. I doubt this game had more than a cursory glance for QA. But there is a lot of potential if this is your kind of jam.
praying and shooting quaint weapons..... Just like 40k.
Solid game, challenging, and fun good gunplay.
