For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. **Would recommend that before you buy, you look up the corruption update and see if it's something you're willing to have in mind while you play. Because you WILL if you want to pass through places in peace. Thing is, I don't think this game is awful. Far from it. I really enjoyed the game in the beginning. I loved the idea of being a courier and transporting deliveries as well as being able to breed better horses for travel. However, I unfortunately bought this game after they added the corruption update. I was just enjoying the base mechanics of the game and then next thing I know a place I needed to deliver to was blocked off in corruption before I even knew fully about the mechanics of it. I can see why others would like it, but it's a really big put off for me when I was just still exploring the game leisurely. I believe corruption should be an optional threat to add or something like that. I was mainly interested in the original idea displayed on the store page.

I'm a big fan of this game! Having a well made horse game is rare enough, but having one that is more realistic and isn't cozy, is even more niche! So, I of course jumped on this when it became available. However, in the state that it is in, I cannot fully give it a thumbs up. I am going to keep playing this and enjoying it, but there are a few things I hope the devs see with this review. You guys are doing amazing! But with the recent update, there's a few things that stop me from giving a positive and playing it everyday. I have a decently beefy PC and this game absolutely tanks my frames. It runs poorly often, even more so with the new update and their corruption spread. I'm on the fence with this part of the game. It was cool and shiny, added a challenge when exploring or travelling got a bit stale - but it's an ever present threat that really starts to become stressful if you're not ontop of it. Now, you CAN adjust settings to slow the spread and even turn it off completely, which is awesome! But the corruption update feels like such a jerk in a different direction than what I expected from this game. I expected indepth horse care & riding, maybe more traveling events or objectives that fold into the mongolian culture. But what we got was... demons and spirits. I could overlook some of the angry spirit stuff that you encounter before the corruption update. But a full eldritch infection was not on my bingo card. And now all the NPCs are so depressed! This game felt a lot more chipper and light when everyone wasn't expecting the world to end, even after I cleared the majority of the map of corruption. With the new horse breed, I expected a lot more aspects with horse riding, care and transport. Definitely a whole lot more fixes and quality of life things. I really wanted some more bugfixes and adjustments, because some UI, shop inventory and interactions still break my game. Even after the many updates. I still get stuck unable to mount my horse if an animation glitches out or an NPC tries talking but just doesn't. I also expected more cultural representation and educational things as well. Because it seriously feels like there hasn't been anything substanial circling the core foundations of the game in a while. But then they go ahead and throw an otherworldly threat into the mix, into an EA game that feels like it is NOT READY for something that is continuous and can heavily effect your gameplay. I really tried to overlook the fact that catching WILD HORSES wasn't in the game until recently. A very vital and important mechanic, you would think, in a open world HORSE game. And that the horse icons in shops and your UI break sometimes. And that sometimes the horses just...start marching on occassion for some reason. And there is still no way to protect your goods from water/weather/terrain! Why do I get 'heat sensitive' goods that are wanted in the desert but no way of protecting them other than "run fast"? It's EA. I accepted that when I bought the game on launch. (Though, tbh, I didn't know it was going to be an EA title until it launched. That's on me. Not the devs. BUT I did still expect more since Ive been keeping an eye on their developement for a loong time.) But with everything happening now, it's getting harder to make excuses to myself to "just accept what I'm given" So please devs! Listen to your audience and be a little more open with where your taking this game. For anyone interested in this, just know that when I say it is in EA - it's so deep in early access that you'll find all sorts of bugs and problems. The game might not even run, so check that first. I adore this game and there's a lot of things that I am so happy to see in a game like this. But until it gives a little more on what it promised, more horse related content and cultural education/representation - I am giving this a negative. It'd be a middle if there was one.
In it's current state I would say absolutely do not purchase this game. When Khiimori first started it out it had incredible potential and I still believe it will be fun in at least a few aspects upon release but as of right now I warn everyone to not buy it. The devs added a mechanic that completely changed the tone of the game called the Corruption which focuses much more on combat when this game was originally supposed to be about being a courier, horse breeder, and hunter. Now it seems like they've gone overboard on something that was NEVER alluded to throughout the game's history and kickstarter. While I'm sure the devs were scrambling after departing from the Windstorm name, I find it incredibly deceitful to their fanbase to include a mechanic that was 1. Never mentioned anywhere at all 2. apparently incredibly important to the main overall story and 3. the majority of their fanbase does not even like it. Again, while I do still have faith they can at least pull something decent from this, considering they have thrown this curveball in I definitely wouldn't purchase the game until it's full release where they can't spring anymore surprises on you. People are divided on the corruption mechanic, some find it fun, others don't. Me personally, I would never have purchased this game if I knew the mechanic would be introduced.
Tldr review: I wish the devs spent their time on an overhaul mod for a better game instead of trying to make this be a standalone ~*experience*~ ---------------- Am I enjoying the game? I keep coming back to it, so I should be, but every time I do I find more reasons not to. I picked it up pre-surgery knowing I'd want some chill singleplayer games to keep me busy and yeah, 2 days post op blitzed on oxy, pony express simulator is pretty cool. Planning optimal routes and going for a nice walk is fairly satisfying for a while, but honestly it quickly became just something to do while waiting for my next breeding stable gacha pull. The map is big, beautiful, and pretty much devoid of substance. The weather systems are impressive but nonsensical. There's four generic wildlife types that exist to be mostly ignored, since hunting is a waste of time and the predators are braindead. There are some objects in the world you can click E on to pick up and an obligatory crafting menu they added because they "had" to for the survival tag. They go hard on the game being "Mongolian" but you could set it just about anywhere and it wouldn't make a difference. The breeding system is easily the best part of the game, but that's hardly enough to warrant a 30USD full game experience, and the rest is just repetitive dialogue and copypasted assets. Now, I'm going to preface this next bit by saying I am NOT coming from Kickstarter. I had no expectations beyond "horsey exploration game." I'm cool with fantasy games and would love to see some Mongolian mythology in action. So when I was reading the complaints about Corruption being bad I figured it was personal taste and decided to play with it turned off at first. Even when it's completely off, the NPCs still whine about it and try to sell you cleansing materials. After a while of getting the hang of things I turned it on to see if it was really all that bad, and yall I am firmly on team "this was a waste of dev time." You set a game in 13th century Mongolia and the best antagonist you could come up with is purple dirt? The game mentions Khan by name and there are "bandit caches" around the map, but the devs don't like the idea of adding "enemies" so they went with "make the terrain annoying until you pour milk on it." Idk man, there's "not making a combat focused game" and then there's "sandblasting anything resembling an opinion or point out of existence." If the idea of Barbie Horse Adventure with better graphics and a bigger map appeals to you this might be worth picking up, but until the devs pick a lane idk if I'd encourage it for any but the most diehard horse genetics fanatics.
They are developing a different game than the one they advertised, I wish I didn't buy so early.
In it's current state I cannot recommend it, espically with a price tag of $48.28 cad ($34.88 usd). There are a number of bugs that are still YET to be resolved. To give credit where it's do and to cut them some slack its only been in early access for 6 months. I don't expect it to be very polished with zero bugs. But there are of some rather annoying bugs like : Fire challenges not working, clipping through terrian frequently, strange animal AI, and frequent rain. This game also has a recent MAJOR issue, the addtion of courrpution. This is not what I or many other people bought the game for, I didn't buy it for a strange courrpution system. Which I personally play without it, but this HINDERS the gameplay by preventing access to certain items required for gathering quests or crafting. Which means you NEED to play with it on if you want that unlocked. But the devolpers make the excuse "it's a toggable feature" which is not a good soultion. In summary please don't buy the game in it's current state, but if you REALLY want it consider waiting till the full release (if that ever happpens). Thank you for reading this review :)
it was good until they introduced corruption, now its a weird fantasy game
I had been following the development of this game for a while now, and wanted to wait to see the reviews once it released before purchasing. When i did buy it, I did find it relaxing, low stress and I enjoyed exploring and the horse gene mechanics. Horse models are a bit rough (the horses look starved and malnourished, so it's hard to look at them sometime) and so are the animations. And now some new "corruption" update of literally nonsense. An update NOBODY asked for, An idea they DID NOT DISCLOSE in their Kickstarter- so rip to all of us who were lied too and wasted our money. I funded because of the historic realism based storyline they were portraying to us. Now im fighting purple ghosts and skeletons??? How is this relevant to the REALISM YOU PROMISED US? You can't even try to tie it into like Mongolian mythology or anything, like jesus christ. Why could'nt it have been a rival tribe? Or a spiritual journey or something actually tied to authentic Mongolian culture? What is this, Star Stable???? Once again, the horse lover community has been lied too and let down. Is it really so hard to produce a simple horse game??? I do not intend to buy any games from this dev team going forward. If you're looking for a Star Stable rip off, here you go!!! : D
Great game when I first got it. Little buggy, sure, but pretty solid. Then the Daybreak update came out and it became laggy as hell with a heavy disk load. Waited for another update, hoping they'd optimize it, nothing. Sent in bug reports and spoke up in their discord, nothin'. I'm sure other players have a great experience. Its a lovely game if it works. But they basically updated and it bricked.
I don't know who on the development team made the corruption call, but I'm sure many players would tell you that the corruption was arguably the worst part of this game. For people going into it expecting realism and horse-centered mechanics, it is an utter chore and one of the first things I turned off in my playthrough. Not to mention-- to my knowledge-- it being not at all mentioned on your kickstarter. This is disrespectful to your backers at least, and blatant fraud at worst especially having been so overwhelmingly supported. It just feels like there really wasn't a clear developmental plan for an 'antagonistic force' in the game. Something about boasting a culturally rich setting, then having to pivot to fantasy as an antagonist feels incredibly cheap to me. While yes, it CAN be turned off, with how much they've randomly pivoted towards corruption and not much else, the game is frankly disappointing to play. It just feels like a horrible mess up of priorities especially when things like falconry was promoted on the kickstarter. An update ago I probably would have recommended to the game to anyone who likes the realistic breeding mechanics and the scenery of the world, but now with the way that development is going, I'd have refunded the game myself if I hadn't already put hours into it.
