Do you like badgers ? Because this game is about losing your little badger cubs one by one and then having to explain to your boyfriend/girlfriend why your grown ass is crying over video game badgers. 10/10 no notes.

Shelter is an artistic game with the story focusing around nature. You have around 1 hour 30 minutes of gameplay with this game. Since it's a shorter game, I'll keep the review more simplified. Visually and sound wise, the game is both very artsie, while also being atmospheric and immersive. The game kind of reminds me of the kind of picture books or folk tales that you read in Europe. You're just an animal in the forest. The goal of the game is to keep your little ones fed and safe. You have to dig up vegetables, pick off apples from trees and hunt down frogs and foxes so that the little ones can be fed. Along the way you're meant to dodge dangers such as an eagle, river rapids and other forces you can expect from nature. Because you're caring and feeding for your kids, you become extremely attached. They make cute little sounds, which makes it all the more painful if you end up losing one of them. It's an incredibly effective storytelling means and I almost started crying while playing this. The game design is intuitive and easy for the player to understand. The control scheme is also very straight forward. The only minor thing is that the little badgers can have buggy pathfinding to eat some food sometimes. It's a very good and artistic way to tell a story about nature, about nurturing as well as loss. This game is wonderful and I strongly recommend it.

Un gioco di sopravvivenza dove, nei panni di mamma tasso, dovrete difendere i vostri cinque cuccioli dalla fame, le intemperie e i predatori, accompagnandoli nella loro prima sortita fuori dalla tana (e qui già affioravano vecchie reminiscenze di cartoni tragici in questo senso). Il gioco di per se è estremamente semplice e carino nella sua semplicità, anche lo stile merita attenzione; eppure il fatto che sia tecnicamente instabile me lo rende di fatto ingiocabile. definetely cute and nostalgic but its so short and bare bones it makes mu upset i got it on a huge discount so im not as mad and im not going to refund it but would never recommend this to anyone for the full price

This game will give you depression, pain, and put you in mourning. It will beat you up emotionally (and, in a way, physically as well). So, yeah. It's a good game. It's pretty much a linear survival simulation, where you are a mother badger trying to survive and raise her cubs. The game will be brutal, and punish you with plenty emotional damage if you are not careful. Sometimes, even if you are. It has some great artistic direction and a strong visual identity, overall looking simple but beautiful, and quite like it's made of paper. It also features some great sound design, evoking strong feelings of anxiety or calmness depending on the level and situation. All that being said, I do think it's preferrable to get it on a sale, as it's rather short and has little replay value unless you want to try to save all the cubs, or play Nurture mode. It's an hour and a half to maybe two hours, so 15 euro is fairly expensive for what you get. Also, though I greatly enjoyed the visuals, I think it's occasionally too bright, and did hurt my eyes somewhat at a few points. I do recommend playing though, particularly if you like survival games with animals, like Endling.
