If you like fluffy slice of life and a cast with a harem setup, tap into the worst trails game.
I have not come across this series, but as soon as I came across this game, I completely immersed myself in it. The plot is addictive, nice graphics, excellent music, lots of locations, sometimes the quests are boring for a long time, but the game is gorgeous. I definitely advise you to swim with this series.
Going through the entire Trails series from start to finish means I had to replay Cold Steel 1, one of the two I had played previously. Initially it was a rough adjustment, the change to 3D was rough and the presentation isn't the best, but despite that Cold Steel 1 is a very good game. The first chapter is rough, gameplay and story wise, but once it begins to pick up it really picks up. Continuing in the vein of the other arcs this first game is a glorified prologue, but while SKy FC was 40 hours and Zero was 50 Cold Steel took me about 87 hours my first playthough in 2023, and 60 hours on my Nightmare run this time. It's a long game, but the combat is fun and the characters and story are enough to keep you hooked, especially once it gets going.
absolute cinema..
another banger from Nihon Falcom sound and narrative team need to be studied,
amazing game. Got a key for 10 bucks.
Peak first game
Great game setting things up in the big old Erebonian Empire.
story is ok but not the best in the series i miss the old quartz system the 100% is not too bad by this point the series ive gotten used to some of the pain points of 100%ing these games
This is my first Trails game series. I have had this game since 2018 and just finished it in 2026. I tried to remember why I bought it long ago and why I didn’t finish it. As a Persona series fan, I was looking for another JRPG with a school setting and social links, and Trails of Cold Steel was recommended to me. That's why I played this game. Later, I discovered it had different mechanics from other classic JRPGs. The most notable is Combat Points, which manage battles and can significantly change your approach. It also involves magic (Arts) using Energy Points, with enemies having elemental weaknesses so you need to choose the right Arts. Stronger Arts take longer, which delayed my turns. This mechanic initially made me stop playing, even on normal difficulty, and I still struggled to grasp it. It's now 2026, and I finished the game on Hard difficulty. I believe I’ve now learned how to understand and enjoy this mechanic. Turns out, it’s not complicated; just draw on your JRPG experience, read the game’s explanations for Arts and skills, and analyze each enemy’s weaknesses to exploit them. Now that I’ve completed it, I need to finish the entire Trails series to learn about Zemuria’s fate. Later, I might replay New Game+ to unlock all the Steam achievements.
