A monster-hunter themed ARPG with a personality
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut is a collection of all three Van Helsing ARPGs in one comprehensive package with additional improvements. Van Helsing trilogy is somewhat of a curiosity in the oversaturated field of ARPGs as, unlike many of its kind, what stays lingering in your mind after finishing it is not only its gameplay, loot and progression but also its story and, primarily, its character. The game strikes a perfect balance between taking itself seriously enough to give the player a motivation to push forward and a lighthearted approach to storytelling with plethora of poignant jokes and references to other media. The entire trilogy, particularly the first part, oozes charm due to its Eastern-Europe inspired setting and pagan mythology-themed monsters and enemies. What also helps is the variety of environments from outdoor forest areas in the first part, factory/city setting in the second and more fantasque places in the third. Additionally, you are not limited to just doing the same things throughout all three parts of the trilogy. The first part is also the most simplistic (which is not a problem since you'll be getting used to the game and its mechanics) while the second one starts gradually implementing various additional mechanics like sending specialized agents on missions (which has some strategic depth to it) or taking care of your own personal monster. Last part also contains few such additions although not as many as the second part. Overall, the Final Cut of the three Van Helsing games is THE way to experience these memorable games today and I can only recommend it. Positives + A charming graphical style with superior level design that adds to the atmosphere game aims to create + Gameplay is amazing - although a little more "floaty" than I personally prefer in my ARPGs but that is, more often than not, compensated by the impact of critical hits that occasionaly shatters an enemy into a bloody mist + Decent main story-line, quests and sidequests + Amazing dialogue, particularly between Van Helsing himself and Lady Katarine which is also supported by a perfect cast of voice actors + Gameplay options - in the Final cut you can choose from 6 different classes unlike in the first part where you had to play a hunter + Various improvements from the Final Cut, some retroactively implemented in the first and second parts of the trilogy + A perfect soundtrack - most of the tracks are highly memorable and fit the areas/situations they are in Negatives - As the game progresses, it becomes more and more repetitive as there is not that much that keeps changing and new skills don not add that much variation into the gameplay - Needing an extra account to play, even offline

Bought at 90% discount. May be I'm more forgiving buying this for less than 5 bucks but here goes. Pros: Nice atmosphere and environment design Somewhat entertaining banter between Van Helsing and Katarina Companion system, ie Katarina, is actually useful Cool mix between science and magic. Alternating between fighting monsters and mecha is cool. Interesting enough story. The "train your captains" system is pretty neat. Cons: Power up system - result in playstyle where you: - Use rage to load up your big shot with power up, activate it - Kill enemies with normal skills to build rage - rinse repeat It was interesting for a while but got stale and troublesome real fast Since the powerup is "per use" and quite powerful, all playstyle will revolve around this. Epic items are just items with jacked up stats... there's no interesting effects/modifiers associated with them. Crafting system is kinda meh. Chimera system feels kinda lame and useless. Overall a fun little game just to see the story through, but I doubt I will grind it, which is not very good for arpg game. Buy it on discount, but not at full price.
this game is the greatest game i have ever played. The graphics are out of this world and the gameplay is so new and refreshing and never seen before, plus whats not cool about shooty shoot or stabby stab monster
