The Good Time Garden

I played Thank Goodness You’re Here on PS5 instead of Steam, so I can’t rate it. I’d give that one a HUGE endorsement. It’s the kind of game I love. This was more of the same. It was fun to see how they progressed from the two games.

Extremely short but extremely funny. This was the foundations that Thank Goodness You're Here was built on. Love Coal Supper and look forward to their next project.

The Good Time Garden, okay this game is unhinged and I love it So I played this in 20 minutes and I'm still not fully recovered. It starts off SO cute. Little pink hand drawn world, you're playing as this naked flower guy, everything's soft and wobbly and looks like a kids' cartoon. And then like a few seconds in you're using your nose to water plants so a frog will unroll its tongue as a bridge, and then you're collecting baby creatures to feed to this giant moaning blob mother thing, and you just... keep going? Because the game makes it feel completely normal? That's honestly the funniest part, it never winks at you. No "look how crazy this is" energy. It just fully commits to its own throbbing pink logic and lets you sit there going "wait am I the bad guy" while gently slapping a sentient testicle creature. The animation is genuinely gorgeous though, like real frame by frame hand-drawn stuff, everything pulses and breathes in this slightly too alive way. And the sound design lives in your skull rent free after you close the game, soothing music over noises you will absolutely think about later at a weird time. It's cute. It's gross. It's somehow both at once in the same breath. I finished it and immediately wanted to make someone else play it just to watch their face do things. Bottom line: free, 20 minutes, completely deranged, no regrets. 10/10 fever dream, would get fed to a blob mother again.

I think the price is a little high for the amount of gameplay, but I was given this as a gift, so whatever X) Very, very strange and slightly unsettling. I did enjoy it, I just wanted it to be longer!

Even with the controller guide, my controller did not work, which is fine...i used the keyboard and was fine until I got to the red frog with the lillypads. I somehow got stuck behind him and could not get out and back on the trail. So i could not finish the game. (i was maybe 5 minutes in??)
