The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is short but engaging. The art and voice acting are great. I love the creepy, moody atmosphere. This is an eldritch horror story, so don't expect warm fuzzies. (Some people were complaining that they didn't feel uplifted after finishing it.) If you're a fellow weirdo who enjoys fiction that engenders a sense of hopelessness and despair, you'll probably like this game.

I'd get a refund if I could. The game welcomed me with janky and rather unimpressive graphics. I enjoyed the usual games from WadJet and their graphical style, so this one was a real bummer. Everything about the game was mediocre at best. Boring characters, insufferably naive main character, predictable and boring plot, lots of obvious or boring puzzles... The only good thing I have to say about this game: I know I'll forget about it in few months and I'm glad I will. One of the worst games I've played in years.

This was an incredibly interesting, well structured point and click mystery, adventure, puzzle game. You may see reviews saying they didn't like the ending, but I recommend you give it a chance. This game is tagged as horror, so keep that in mind when reviewing the game and when experiencing the ending! The dialogue options and character's were incredibly well-rounded with interesting flaws, personalities, and histories. The main character is sort of lovably out-of-touch, coming into a rural community with her guns blazing and ignorance to local superstition/culture (I say this as someone who lives in a rural community and find people like that pretty funny). Overall, I wish I could play this game again for the first time. Solid experience! About the ending: [spoiler] Not every story is supposed to have a happy ending. I genuinely felt like this was a fitting, open-ended way to end a tragic story. Not dissimilar to other games of the same genre (Sally Face, Little Misfortune, etc.). Just my two cents! [/spoiler]

for the most part i liked this game. The graphics are nice and the voice acting was fantastic!! The first third is really good but then in the middle it becomes fetch quest-y and I think that lasted too long. I'm super conflicted about the ending, I liked the idea of it but my main issue is how we get there; [spoiler] her being possessed and killing her father [spoiler]. We had all the evidence to not go down the barrow. I wish they made us doubt Arthur's warning (since he had memory problems the whole game) or they added something more to get me on board with her continuning down the barrow. It was obvious to me that she was being used, I find it difficult to believe that she didn't see it either [spoiler]

Really stellar feel to this game, some of the best voice acting in a point and click adventure. My only question is when is their next game coming out?

It's OK - it starts well, but the puzzles become a bit too "try every item on every person and find the random fit the designer intended" for my liking, a little too Monkey Island. If you like Monkey Island I guess you'll love this.

An excellent game that harkens back to the point and click adventures that I grew up with. Also the horror elements are well done, and not jump scare or gorey like a lot of modern horror games that we've seen in the last few years. A very smart game that challenges you to think, engage your puzzle brain and see what in the heck is going on in this town. Samantha Béart is fantastic as Thomasina in a time period that doesn't want to take a lady seriously.
