Told myself I'd play only a few hours It's now been 15 strange
They only made the original even better imo, perfect remastered 10/10
Played this game back in the 360 era with around 1000 hrs on the game, playing different characters, and exploring the world... wonderful & fascinating mechanics all throughout. It might have been my first introduction into games-based on magic. The two hand casting + spell combinations made it all the more fun ~ buying spells too. Along with the quests. This game and the U5 adaptations makes it feel like its a step back from the original game, makes it feel older and less refined although with updated graphics. A big issue, the game doesn't link well to the cloud - depending on where you have your game saves (I use steam cloud to play on the SteamDeck too - hence my graphical complaints too - on my pc too). I use OneDrive and for whatever reason, only this game has an issue going to the Documents folder there, instead it goes to the legacy folder and weirdly enough, steam doesn't back it up to the cloud. My solution was to copy-link the folder from one section to the other and make the data from one appear like it's in the other through a linked shortcut. If someone needs help in the future with this I believe I saved the instructions - reply to this thread and I will paste it.
I am enjoying the game a lot. I have really no performance issues. There have been a couple glitched quests so thanks for console commands haha. Overall I paid full price which is a rarity for me and I feel like Ill get my moneys worth. I will say although I usually play a mage I think I'd have rather went sword and board on this one. If I ever replay it ill do that or at least battle mage.
I was somehow able to put a playthrough in and I had a blast besides the atrocious framerate while in the open world. In doors it was fine and i put up with it, I had a blast and graphics were amazing, new combat improved, and best of all they fixed the broken leveling system from the original. That all being said this is BS. The games has been left in a broken piss poor state. Im not sure what changed but I cant even play the game anymore and being in the main menu i get 40 or less frames the game is completely broken its really sad. I wanted to hop in and have some fun on my endgame character but it doesnt even load in its just a black screen. So yeah just go play the original on Steam its incredible and Ive played in right again before this came out. Such a shame.
Traversal stutter is still an issue, there's pop in, lag spikes, it likes to crash while closing. It's not unplayable, but the problems are genuinely annoying, and detract from the experience.
decided to revisit this game after upgrading my graphics card which runs absolutely everything else I've tried fine, I remembered this game running horribly on my 3060Ti, turns out, it wasn't just the card! This game is just completely unoptimized, I can barely crack 60fps sometimes which is completely unacceptable. I've also ran into loads more bugs than I originally did when I first played the game, and in some places with high npc counts the performance seems to tank even more. Don't bother with this game on PC, if you want to play it at least somewhat smoothly, get it on console.
I simply cannot recommend this game because it just doesn't run well. Traversal stutter is still an issue, there's pop in, lag spikes, it likes to crash while closing. It's not unplayable, but the problems are genuinely annoying, and detract from the experience. If it's on deep sale, and you just really want prettier Oblivion, then I guess. Other than that, I'd say avoid it.
Great game that looks amazing. I was hesitant at first because I'd seen some reviews regarding performance issues. I've noticed a few performance issues/glitching here and there, but nothing that is game breaking. Every once in a while you might find an enemy/character that is stuck in a rock or wall, but this is few and far between. Runs great on my set up. Definitely recommend.
Well its Oblivion and its pretty great for that but I would not buy it if only because now whenever I try to start it crashes so I cannot play anymore, so, don't buy until they fix that.
