One of the best espionage action games I've played this year. IO Interactive proved they were the right studio for the Bond franchise Their experience with the Hitman series translates perfectly into 007, with stealth and sandbox gameplay that lets you tackle missions however you want. The game has everything I expect from a James Bond story, Hollywood-esque action, globe-trotting missions, political conspiracies, plot twists, a bit of romance, and all the high-tech gadgets you'd hope to see. My biggest complaint is the AI. It can be pretty dumb at times and occasionally ruins the immersion (but i only played at normal difficulty). There are also a few puzzle sections that drag on longer than they should. That said, these issues never outweighed the fun for me. 007 First Light is a confident first outing for IO's take on James Bond. It's polished, packed with memorable story, and captures the feeling of being 007 better than I expected. If you've been waiting for a proper Bond game, this one is well worth your time.
Licensed to Thrill
After finishing the main story and getting all the achievements, I'm profoundly impressed, although I expected nothing less from the developers of the legendary Hitman series. I had my doubts regarding the necessity of creating an origin story for Bond. Prequels—to me, at least—always felt like an excuse to milk a much-beloved franchise when there are no worthwhile creative ideas left to pursue. And ohh boy, how glad I am that I was proven wrong in this case. Set in the modern day, First Light shows us how James turned from an SAS member into a 00 agent and does so immaculately. This James isn't an elegant, reserved, experienced older gentleman, but rather a reckless, rule-defying, and often childish amateur—as is to be expected from someone in his twenties. It's a refreshing take on his character, as we see him grow and mature as a person. What I adored the most are the bonds (no pun intended) he develops with his fellow 00 trainees and his mentor, Greenway. He quickly became my favorite character, serving as a father figure and role model for James later in the story. Without a doubt, it's also one of the best-looking games in recent years. I don't wish to get into spoiler territory, but some levels are truly breathtaking and make me want to boot up the game on a boring day just to walk around and chill. This is accompanied by remarkable audio design, nevertheless. I'm afraid I can't avoid mentioning the gunplay. While serviceable, it's more on the clunky side, which is expected, I presume, considering the Hitman games aren't exactly respected for their stellar gunplay. Melee is fluid and smooth, thankfully, on the other hand, and stealth is quite enjoyable thanks to the various gadgets you'll have at your disposal. These can also make the often stale shootouts feel refreshing. The story is more relevant than ever. I won't spoil anything, but it touches upon topics that are discussed nowadays and spark debates on a daily basis. This is something I deeply appreciated. Besides that, it's a classic espionage/action Bond story: betrayals, romance, jaw-dropping action sequences, and everything you'd expect from the legendary 007 franchise. One more criticism: it doesn't give you as much freedom as it promises. While there are multiple ways to reach certain areas in a few levels, don't expect entire sub-stories or interesting additions similar to those in the new Hitman trilogy. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing, as linear single-player games are rare nowadays, and I am glad to play something that isn't open-world recycled fetch-quest slop. Despite the aforementioned "issues," I'm giving this the maximum possible score. This is everything you'd want and expect from a James Bond game and more. IOI didn't disappoint, and I'm optimistic a sequel is on the way, and hopefully we'll get a prequel trilogy with games of the same quality.
Final Verdict: 10/10 - Essential Experience
Well done, 007. Until we meet again!
Great visual. Great voice acting. Great characters. Decent story. But these are what I look in a movie not in a game. They are a bonus for sure, completes the game and makes it a masterpiece but you need GAMEPLAY for a game. I would love to watch this game as a movie but it is not fun to play after the first 2-3 missions. Very little or no exploration, extremely linear, holds your hand constantly, rinse and repeat everything in every mission, very bad AI that breaks immersion, good close combat but gets old very quick and meh gunplay. It is not a Hitman met Uncharted, it is Hitman and Uncharted had a fight and both ended up tired and damaged.
I don't know. I would have really liked a spy game by the people that made hitman. All the 007 stuff feel unneeded and pushed - also the least fun part of the game. I just can't bring myself to play anymore of this.. i don't care about the story, the people or the missions. ugh. disappointment. Maybe for people that like fan service will like this? or maybe? Or maybe people that like it didn't play the hitman? *shrug* I'd suggest if you wanted anything remotely related to hitman.. don't get this. oh.. combat is so painfully bad. poopy..
Really bad game in my opinion. Try to be both action and infiltration, and failing at both, which is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shame concerning the later as this is from the same people that gave us Hitman. Story is filled with clichés, and I know, James Bond is pretty cliché but damn, that's too much. And seriously, QTE in 2026? THAT MUCH QTE in 2026?
Genuinely a surprise for me. I'm not a big 007 fan, but I did grow up with 007 on N64 and Gamecube (Goldeneye and Everything or Nothing), and this is easily the best thing to come out of the franchise in a decade. IOI knew exactly what they were doing, which is strange to say considering their prior linear action games. An extremely polished experience that should be played by old timers and fresh faces to the franchise.
007 First Light came free with my new graphics card it looks amazing really visually impressive I literally got through the beginning mission and realized the issue with it it's just a guided playable movie pretty much you dont really do anything your options are pretty much go here do that here's your path Im not going to do what alot of others have done by pouring hours into it expecting a different result this will be one of those I'll waste an hour on it here and there type games.
