Such a shame to come across the game this way, but they made a solid game here. Not perfect, but pretty dang good and ambitious.
Granted, I have pretty strong VR legs, the movement is spectacular but I can see how it might bother some players. The core gameplay is solid, I feared combat might get repetitive fast but it actually got more fun after I acquired a certain piece of equipment. Highly recommend!
Very pleasantly surprised with this game. Was hesitant to try due to the mixed reviews but decided to take the plunge when it went on sale. While there is definitely quite a bit of jank, the game is super fun and seems to be a mix of fast paced parkour with lots of action. I can definitely recommend on sale, and would say it was a steal at the $6 I purchased for. A shame the dev team has disbanded as I see a lot of potential....
a very cool game and its a shame that the studio didnt survive this, but to the devs who may move onto future projects one big note PLEASE ADD INTERTIA TO THE MOVEMENT IN YOUR GAMES, whenever a VR game has floaty movement like found here it gives me motion sickness after a while. otherwise its a very underrated game that i can see in 10 years becoming a cult classic that people rave about and some random youtuber with a funny british accent does a video about thats 5 hours long and its just recaping the story and the lore notes. 6.5/10 if you can get past the motion issues 7/10 would wall run some more
Overall this game sucks and is a waste of your time. Try the demo, imagine how a game could implement these mechanics, then go play Half Life 2 again. This is before the age of AI coding really took off but the entire game feels like it's "vibecoded". Everything feels like it was tested in a vacuum, and none of it meshes together. There are three main elements to the game, movement, combat and driving. Movement being the least egregious and combat being the worst offender. There is a story but it's non-sensical and you have to turn on subtitles because the vocal mix is so bad you'll miss half of what's said, and the other half is muffled because they thought everyone should sound like they're talking through a mask or over a bad radio. On top of weird flashback sequences and some sort of "choice" element to the game's story, there's nothing coherent to track. Because the game is so annoying you have little care left for the story and world building. Something they couldn't keep consistent as I had the wrong faction of bad guys spawn in a couple times during the last third of the game in some outposts. I got an achievement for helping out a faction, had no idea how I got it or even who they are. Also got an achievement for missing a train because it drops you out of a flashback cutscene and you have to run and catch it as you just activated it with a lever before the cutscene pulled you out of the game. I didn't even know there was a train except for the level being named "Train Station" and the achievement popping up. Games try and swear a lot to cover a lack of depth in writing, sometimes I miss silent protagonists and this is one such occasion. Annoying on the same level as Arizona Sunshine. At least protagonist girl disappears after the prologue for gruff military man but he's just as bad. The environments are simplistic looking but still get annoying. In the first third you spend a considerable amount of time in a red dust storm, ugly, garish and makes using the red vignette to establish how much health you have left unusable. It can be very unclear where to go at times even when they yellow-paint the way (with green paint). Random stuff will happen and you'll get a lore update notification, who cares. Gunplay and controls are sluggish and annoying. Without a differentiation between grip and trigger for different aspects of gun handlings, many times you'll accidentally grab a magazine instead of the grip or fail to reload your weapon properly. This is increased tenfold if you're on the move (a game where movement is a big part) as the weapons will float about and your off hand will collide awkwardly with it as you're trying to reload. Grabbing syringes off your wrist instead of what you want to do with the weapon was common too. The default pistol has some upgrades and unlimited ammo but doing what feels like half or less damage to enemies you don't really want to use it. Upgrades are hidden away and there's meant to be an indicator to show that you're close but if it's slightly off the beaten track you won't be told, and are easy things to miss. Ammo management is poor, with so many different ammo types you don't know what you have on your belt as it'll only show 3 at a time. Worse still it will start "forgetting" you had ammunition. Many times after switching to a different weapon on the ground there'll be none left in the belt. Wearing the half life example on a sleeve you'll find yellow ammo boxes everywhere that you have to pull towards you and then break, getting old fast. Sometimes, weapons will forget they have a magazine in if you've left them on your shoulder/chest holster for too long, which is ideal in a firefight when you switch weapon to fire nothing at all. Enemies themselves are placed in a level and are forgotten about with the most fundamentally poor AI. Fighting is a chore, and none of the extra mechanics are actually implemented in combat arenas. Adding on the bullet sponge nature of half the enemies in armour, most of the fights are finding an automatic weapon and trying to laser their head off. There are set ups for jump-kicks, only one I pulled off was in the tutorial. You're meant to be able to use props to send them at enemies, though you have to get so close to be effective you're usually gunned down while playing with a barrel in the air. Grenade throwing is always hard in VR if the game doesn't try and compensate somehow or design a good system like Alyx. There is no good system here. Throwing grenades is an awful experience. Boss fights are downright atrocious. You spend five to ten minutes circling an arena whittling away at their invisible health bar. Just a bullet sponge. You can disarm enemies. Don't do this unless you kill them with whatever you took from them. They'll usually pull out a pistol that's very powerful and very accurate even from far away, compared to their pea shooter automatic rifle or whatever junk they had. You will die to these guys more than you expect, again annoying and punishing you for utilising the mechanics in the game. Driving is overall pretty tiring. It's like someone saw Highway 17 from Half Life 2 and made it overstay it's welcome along with confusing objectives. You don't protect your vehicle (a trike/ATV like thing) but sometimes you have to open gates to pass, other times they'll give you an additional vehicle. It's very confusing when you have to ditch it or if you still need the vehicle to continue. Tedium sets in with the repition in outposts where you have to open gates. It gets worse with the amount of wall rides and ramp jumps you need to line up for especially in tight enclosures. Games used them sparingly so they remained as wow moments, here they're just places to get queasy and have to respawn after falling in a pit. The developers thought it was a great idea to add undulating terrain in the form of jutting out rocks in some of these segments as well, making the ATV bounce and miss a tight ramp over a ravine, that was over a dozen tries to somehow make it across. The driving controls get old fast. You hold out your controls to steer like a bike, though if you don't turn on headset turning with the vehicle you have to physically rotate your entire body to get the ATV in the right direction instead of just turning the handle bars and being moved along with the ATV. There are some driving segments where you're getting shot at, don't shoot back. This machine in uncontrollable with one hand and you have to keep your right hand on the ATV to accelerate. Movement is fine in parts where it works, though in others it can be frustrating. Tight wall runs, death barriers too high, swinging pits where you can't get a grasp on the range of your tether all ruin what should be a smooth experience. The game would make a good mirror's edge simulator if they took a different direction with the overall design. Anyways glad this studio died over this they died for nothing.
It's too bad the dev studio had to close due to lack of funding in December 2024. With a little more time and resources to polish, this could have been one of the best single player VR campaigns to date. It's Half-Life 2 meets Mad Max--gnarly gangs vying for power on a heinous hellscape of a desert planet as well as more tech-heavy corporate goons trying to stop the mad man that is the protagonist, Hornet. The story and voice acting is serviceable. You can find notes and tapes (sometimes hard to hear) to flesh out the world. Mobility options include sprinting, wall-running, vaulting and using grappling gloves. Besides sandy dunes, subterranean caves and tunnels and craggy mountainous areas, there are also dilapidated compounds, dead cities and industrial complexes to traverse through. You'll never go without a firearm as the upgrade-able pistol you wield cannot be lost and will teleport back to your person when dropped. If you run out of ammo, you are doing something wrong as there are supply boxes in abundance. The game also will supply you with the ammo type of whatever weapons you are carrying. Besides, the pistol you can also stow a weapon on each shoulder as well as four grenades on your chest. Syringes that heal or slow time can be attached on the top of each hand. The downsides? The enemy AI is lacking. Unless you approach too close, they will not engage until you fire and they are fairly easy to dispatch. Later in the game, it's possible to get overwhelmed and die but the save checkpoints are fair and plentiful. I died more from messing up climbing than in combat. There are a couple of annoying climbing and driving sections. But generally, the game will thankfully re-spawn you right where you were previously. The boss fights are basically all the same setup and a little lackluster--medium-sized arena-like rooms with one main bad guy and spawning underlings. I like the art style and the game does not seem that demanding, so you should be able to really crank up the graphics depending on your headset and GPU. Strap in and let your brain burst.
Recommend !
Its Janky but its good.
