The Asskickers is a satirical re-imagination of the 2D arcade beat’em up. Join Alex, Diane and Marcus in their action-packed journey through the heart of the modern urban jungles. Wrongly accused, our three heroes will stand up to a corrupt political and financial elite and make white-collar criminals discover the lost art of asskicking.

I bought this game hoping for an old-school beat-em-up in the vein of Double Dragon, Battletoad, Streets of Rage and all the rest of their ilk. What I got instead was a SHODDY beat-em-up in the vein of... well, incompetently-made, poorly-thought-out games of any era you might care to name. The controls are stiff and wooden, the fighting is booring - basically no combo variation - and the main 'special move' (forward, forward, attack) is simultaneously hard to pull off in the heat of battle, and easy to fire off accidentally... at least if you're using a controller, which would seem to be the obvious choice. The actual fighting boils down to 'stunlock them before they stunlock you', aided by enemies walking in random circles around you most of the time. Said enemies are generally annoying and often use hit-and-run tactics which you are poorly-equipped to counter, since you can't move faster than a laid-back saunter - there's no run, dash or dodge-roll option. They also enjoy attacking from beyond the edges of the screen, where you can't see or reach them, or just positioning themselves INSIDE you to attack, taking advantage of the poorly-made hitboxes. Several of them also have far greater reach than their animations would suggest. The bosses are, perhaps, the worst of the lot - they're invariably invulnerable, except for during a specific interval, for abso-bloody-lutely no apparent reason. Your punches just pass through them without doing anything, not because they're hiding behind a shield or using some kind of force-field, but because the game arbitrarily decided that they aren't vulnerable at that point. Sure, it's funny - sort of, if you're into anarchic, rebellious humor - but the translation is as shoddy as the rest and the text is rife with poor spelling, messed-up grammar, and just plain old errors. But hey - the GRAPHICS are very nice. Love the style. Looks great. Maybe they should've made a cartoon or a comic-book instead...
Calling this game a bargain-bin Double Dragon, would be giving it a kind compliment. First of all, despite the steam store page claiming it has online co-op...It doesn't. Only local co-op is supported, which I can only imagine to be dreadful. There is no controller support for either X-Box 360 or Logitech F-Series controllers, which for a Beat'em Up is a deal breaker for me. Putting those two factors aside and looking at the game itself. It is bad. Enemy AI is abysmal. Enemies just stand there and let you beat them occasionally punching back, if they are not running away in fear. The combos are generic and uninspired. Not many move sets or combos with any of the 3 playable characters. Even the original Double Dragon for NES started you out with more moves, and that game is nearly 3 decades old. One of the worst Beat'em Ups on Steam. I would recommend Double Dragon Neon over this. It has online co-op with a steam friend, and is superior in every aspect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeLYemL6gnc&list=PLNCk-m24qgLkgLn0G_PjSKus4gRPcU69J&index=3
This was a nice surprise! As a fan of good old beat'em up, this game is exactly what I needed. I have played through the game in single player and I look forward to doing it again in co-op. The pros : -stunning visuals -interesting enemies ans combat situations -variety in level design -some wacky surprises -some real beat'em up love The cons: -animations are a bit stiff and lack fluidity -combat could be a bit smoother -the humor can be hit and miss but it's part of the charm Conclusion: If you like old school beat'em ups and fantasize about spanking evil bankers, this is the game for you. I would rate it : 7/10 solo 8/10 in co-op
실행하면 3초뒤 꺼지는 게임... 이게 뭔일인가 싶어 비추 드려요.
Unresponsive controls. Sometimes pickup doesn't work. A lot of struggling to get controllers to work. Unskippable dialogue/cutscenes. Hard to click on UI buttons.
The Asskickers is a throwback to the old days of Beat'em up games and it fails miserably. Story: You get to pick one out of three characters Alex, Diane or Marcus as you fight through waves of enemies to clear your name after you are framed. The Story is about thin as a thread, with a lot of nonsense where you fight random people to prove that you're innocent. A lot of the dialogue is really bad and not to mention there's an absolutely atrocious ending that sequel baits, but I don't think we will ever get The Asskickers 2. Graphics: The graphics are really bland. I think a lot of it was hand drawn, but sadly it's really poorly drawn. There's a lot of bad cropping and not to mention a lot of the art is reused. You will run into the same enemies over and over again, so get ready to fight that one dude and that one girl 7 billion times as the game ended. Audio: There's no voice acting and the soundtrack is okay at best, but nothing special and not to mention a lot of the music is downright bad. To be honest the best idea is to mute the music and use your own music, while playing. Gameplay: This is where the game absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥ the bed. The gameplay is absolutely horrendous and buggy as hell. Let's begin shall we ? Your move set is pretty standard for a beat em up game, you have a few moves, special moves and a few combo moves to use throughout. But sadly a lot of it is useless because of the absolutely horrendous hit detection. Most enemies have really bad hit boxes and it's really difficult to attack them, when you have to attack from a very specific spot to actually damage them. A lot of the time, I would just use the jumpkick and hoped for the best, cause everything else would simply not work. Another bad thing is that most enemies have a move that will knock you down and take out a big chunk of your health. This wouldn't be problematic, if it was one certain enemy, but sadly it feels like every enemy can easily destroy you if you're not careful. The game is also insanely short with only a handful of levels, but don't worry the game has you covered, if you want length. To actually prolong the play time, the games difficulty is absolutely unfair. Each level has a few areas to go through and a boss fight at the end, so if you actually get to the boss fight and die, good luck giving the boss another try, you are going back to the beginning. You have lives, but you're lucky if by the time you get to a boss you at least have 1 life left. Also the game is beyond broke. It took forever for me to get it running and even then most of the levels were super broken. One level I actually got the bosses health to one hit and he glitched into a wall making the fight impossible to finish, so I had to restart the entire level again. Verdict: The Asskickers is an absolutely horrendous Beat'em up. It's not worth your time or your cash, when there's so many better games on the market, so stay away from this one. Final Rating: 1/10 Pros: N/A Cons: - Gameplay is unresponsive - Buggy as all hell - Ugly Graphics - Soundtrack is bland If you liked this review please consider giving it a thumbs up and consider joining https://steamcommunity.com/groups/completingthebacklog and https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ImperialReviews
This is one of the better 2D games that I have played recently. Beside the fact that the "graphics" could be a bit more detailed and better, everything is nice. Some very cool enemies (whose bodies could get an improvement) arrive sometimes, but only sometimes. The game's name does really describe the game in the best possible way.
This is why they got rid of steam greenlight...
The Asskickers is a beat em up. I love beat em ups. Um, this one has a few problems. 1.) You often clip through the environment, or your character and the enemy characters teleport 2.) Dreadfully short, lacks the replay value of other games like it 3.) One of the most important things in a beat em up is being able to quickly turn and deliver a blow to an enemy behind you. Instead of turning instantly, the character has a drawn out animation to turn, and if you press punch before he's turned fully, he performs a back attack. This might not be so bad, if the back attacks actually hit the enemies. One and two may not sound so bad, depending on how starved you are for another beat em up to play. Number 3 is the big killer, but if you can work past that, there are some positives. Namely, the design. Like a lot of older side-scrolling beat em ups, Asskickers likes to introduce new enemies and gimmicks each stage. In one stage you're on top of a train dodging signs and bars, on another you're hiding from searchlights, and so on. The bosses are also very gimmick focused, probably because the actual combat is not robust enough to support much more. The enemy design is decent. The most basic goons walk into your punches, but later enemies require precise timing and frequent use of your special attacks. There's really nothing particularly special here, and beat em ups made over a decade prior have done much better. The humor, which was probably a big draw, is just generic "hurr durr corporations are evil", to the point where one of the enemies is a teleporting yuppie. The game has a few positives going for it, but no, please don't.
