I loved the original back in the years, I enjoyed the anniversary edition and I like this remake. If you're a fan of the title, it's worth it.
I was really excited to play this even though i hadn't played the original. It looked really fun and seemed intricate but after the first few rooms it became clear that the game wanted to hold your hand and any exploration outside of the "Dora the explorer" style guidance became quite frustrating quite fast. I spent almost 7 hours in this game. I think three hours were spent playing the actual game. one hour or so on the final fight, and almost three hours were spent getting frustrated and wandering around because i couldn't see things in the dark or because i wasn't suppose to be there yet. I appreciate the work the actors put in but some of the newspaper clippings looked AI generated which felt disappointing. Overall It was really short for a 20$ game and felt almost infantilizing with the hand holding style of gameplay.
I've played 80 minutes of this game so far (I never played the original), but this game is AWESOME. I LOVE this game so far. This game runs absolutely sweet too (I get constant 240 frames/sec -- the most my monitor will even do at 4K). I'll update this review when I finish it (bc I am DEF going to finish this, so this review WILL be updated -- check back in like a month or maybe less). My take so far: It's a the best puzzle-box-cinematic experience you'll probably ever see. The way the ghosts look in 4K is pretty sweet. I didn't expect them to look that good. They didn't a really decent job on them. They look just like holograms at Disney world. And the voice acting to go along with them is also top-notch (all characters are voiced).
Disclaimer: I have never played the original. But I like exploring spooky ghost houses with puzzles, so. The game is good for what it is. It is a small puzzling game in a spooky house. This house is very atmospheric and I love the mystery aspects and the "videos" of the guests. My favourite part - besides the atmosphere - was looking at the pictures and how they change. :D The puzzles are mostly on the easier side but I didn't mind that. I just wish they would make a little more sense, as several times the difficulty wasn't the puzzle, but figuring out what you are actually supposed to do in the first place because of how random and unconnected they are. For example, in one case you have to find five blocks and put them onto a weird board that moves into a specific position if you "activate" it. Nowhere does the game give you a hint what it expects the blocks to be ordered like. I only figured out the solution after looking at the optional help tool and it still made no sense afterwards. My biggest gripe is probably the end. The "end battle" is just incredibly frustrating for no reason. Still, I had a lot of fun with it, just don't expect something grand or rational.
This was my first introduction to the 7th Guest games so I'm unable to compare but I really enjoyed this game. (Though swapping between the 7th Guest and House Flipper 2 made me want to clean up Stauf's house myself!) This game was longer and more challenging that some games I have played in this genre and the story made it interesting for me. The puzzles were not too easy and not too hard, and if you're stuck, there is a Help option. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.
A well done remake. There are a bunch of medium difficulty puzzles. The whole games is fun start to finish. I hope these devs remake The 11th Hour.

Friggin fantastic! I absolutely loved playing the OG; except for that evil eyeball game in the laboratory. Seriously, eff that puzzle/game! This remake was beautifully done! I couldn't have asked for better. The puzzles were good. Not so easy that I sailed through every one but not so difficult that I'd rage out. Puzzle games are my favorite. The lantern is a nice twist to see if you're paying attention to the details around you. I heard from friends that they didn't think it was as scary as the OG. Well I never thought the OG was all that scary. Suspenseful yes, scary no. Now the only "complaint" I have is all the objects to pick up. I kept expecting clues or more story dialogue to be spattered when I'd interact with random objects. But that's also on me, I just started skipping over repeat objects which is why I didn't get all the coins in my first play. I usually give the OG some playtime every year or two and now it's going to have to compete... with itself! LMFAO
Lacks the old-school charm of the original, and I'm finding it a tad too easy, but still a competent and very enjoyable remake.
