What can I even say about Tales of Symphonia? Honestly, chances are you’re either already a hardcore Tales fan and you know exactly why people love this game… or you’re completely new to the series, reading reviews and wondering whether this old title is still worth your time. And if you’re the second person, then wholeheartedly: Go for it. Especially if you love classic fantasy JRPGs. Just one thing I really want to make clear: don’t play Symphonia expecting the same feeling as the much later Tales games. To me, there is a very clear difference between this older era of Tales and what the series eventually became. Symphonia belongs to that classic style of Tales that I personally love. You have the overworld map. Cities and towns. Side quests. A group of characters going on a journey together. That wonderful feeling of leaving one place, travelling across the world and discovering what comes next. It is simply a very classic fantasy JRPG experience. And I mean that as a huge compliment. You’ll often see people praising the story and characters, and I understand why. I enjoyed the story a lot. I loved the game enough to play it more than once, which already says a lot for me. The characters are good too. Most of them, at least, they’re memorable and really give you that feeling of traveling with an actual party throughout a long adventure. Is it modern? No. That is actually part of why I love it. There is something about these older fantasy JRPGs that I miss, the feeling that you are setting out into this big fantasy world with your party… Symphonia has that. So if you’re craving a classic fantasy JRPG, I can very easily recommend it. And if you’re completely new to Tales, I also think it’s a wonderful way to understand why so many longtime fans became attached to this series in the first place.

Heavily recommend. Haven't played many JRPGs before, but this was a good entry point, with an interesting story and endearing characters (even you, Zelos).

Best Tales game and it's not even close. Wish it was 60fps

I love this game, but this port is terrible. I've tried to get through it a couple times now, but the longer I play the slower the framerate gets. On this playthrough by the time I reached the temple it was basically like watching Neo dodge bullets in the matrix.

I'm going to go against the grain here. Perhaps I'm spoiled from playing newer Tales games first. Perhaps I'm just old and played too many JRPG's in general. But many of the elements in this game feel dated: - Locked to 30 FPS - No EN voice acting for skits (JP is fully voiced) - Graphics/animations feel dated after playing newer Tales games - Combat system is probably the weakest of the Tales games I've played Now for the story (no spoilers), which is supposed to be one of the best in the Tales series. It was.. fine. Nothing that blew me away. I was just expecting so much more. For me, the best parts of ToS was the characters and their interactions, as well as the dungeons and their puzzles. Again, I think my problems with this game are simply the BIG expectations I had for it, so it did feel like a slog pretty much from start to finish. If I played this game 20 years ago, I'm sure I would feel VERY definitely about it.

Прикольная jrp. Обычно такие добрые игры мне не нравятся, но в этой обёртке скрывается дольно неплохая история. Рекомендую, но для меня всё равно будет лучше tales of bersria.
