Overall it's fine and impressive for how small the dev team is, but that does not change the fact that Tahira severely lacks something motivating me to play it. The story has a nice atmosphere and premise but is held back by cringey attempts at humor that feel out of place. The setting is a little off since it uses real place names with seemingly little connection to them. Music and sound are the strongest suits of the artistic side of things. The combat is overall good but is similar enough to Banner Saga's that it makes me miss things Banner Saga has and Tahira doesn't, such as agency over attacking health versus armour. The combat does have interesting innovations, but nothing I can say I miss. From what I can tell, difficulty is primarily just the number of units the game throws at you. There could also be better instructions for what your objectives are. A strong suit of the combat is it has a much larger scale than other tactics games. The devs were so close to making an amazing game, it honestly hurts to give Tahira a negative review. While I can point to good things, there's just nothing compelling enough to make me think my money was well spent. Tahira is a gamble which didn't pay off for me but did for others.

I really enjoyed playing Tahira ! The combat feels great, the Soudtrack is amaizing and the design is somewhat cute. I cannot give it a positive review tho because of a game breaking bug stopping me from progressing. Do buy if you can get over bugs, don't if you can't
I'm not a fan of turn-based tactics. But this is the most fun I've had from the genre in a long time. I adored the themes of Science Fiction meets Near East mysticism and Tahira is one of the few games that holds that well.
I hope there will be episode 2. There is place for indie producers and I hope there will be a day when they can live and provide for families doing what they want. These team has passion and ideas. Thank you for this game. + Battle system. Pretty simple but enjoyable. Did not get bored of it. + Massiv battles. + Art is nice and smooth. + Music suits well and keeps you epic mood. - A bit too short - 10 hours. No time for characters development
If you enjoy a considered and crafted story then Tahira: Echoes of the Astral Empire is definitely for you. Players only interested in the combat will get a single play through of the game, but I can’t see a lot of replayability for them. But players who connect with the story will likely get three or four runs out of it, as they explore the different options available. Great game made by three people.
Wanted this to be the offbrand Banner Saga to scratch an itch, but it just doesn't cut it. I enjoy turnbased so that I can actually plan ahead, and while this game tries (and to be fair, it does try) to offer me a tactical challenge, it mostly ends up being a challenge to do what I want to. Turn order is wack, controls are off, and even if the story seems to have some good plot points, the writing is simply off-putting to me.
Quite a good game. I picked this up in a sale, as I was looking for Banner Saga like games. This is not Banner Saga though. Good: +the art style - it's cell shading, but definitely stands out from the crowd +unique environment - few RPGs take place in a fictional "middle-eastern" kingdom +good lore for such a short game +realistic battles - one does feel like a harried scattered retreating force facing off the vanguard of the much bigger ennemy army +good soundtrack +original ideas in the setup of levels (ambush points where you can hide units completely, cover, choke points) Could do better: +the rather anticlimactic ending +the game is only 10 hours long. Obviously I could replay to get the trophies, but hey +game map - the world we see on the map initially is quickly reduced to a single road in the mountain. It could have been so much more. +lack of unit diversity - no ranged units, upgrading units has minimal effect +whilst the general RPG / storytelling add variety in between combat sequences, the quality of the writing is inconsistent, mostly with the comic relief elements. I have to say though that I was pretty amused by the horse. Anyway, that is subjective so not nescessarily a bad factor I guess. All in all, an enjoyable experience, if only marred by the lack of resources of the team. They obviously put a lot of blood and sweat into this game, and I think that these indie studios should be rewarded, but this could have been so much more. This game could really do with a "part 2" to feel complete. Based on sales, I'm not sure the devs will pick this up again. I'd still recommend that you buy this to try it out.
