About
Amelia expected her evening to be perfectly ordinary. What she did not expect was for her best friend to hack her car and bring her against her will to the Haven, the ancient castle her family used to holiday in when she was a child.
Far for being a sentimental visit, this improbable return to the place of her childhood finds Amelia forced to take part in a game she knows nothing about: not the how, not the who, and certainly not the why... And this game just might uncover secrets her family would have rather left hidden.

The Haven is yours to roam freely and in any order you want. Search through its handcrafted rooms, find secret passages and open forbidden doors. Uncover the castle's history and that of Amelia's family on this larger-than-life, intricate playing board.
Your observation skills and a keen sense of curiosity will be the keys to truly know the Haven and uncover every last of its secrets.

Create your own strategies, organise your team, position your fighters wisely and anticipate enemy patterns in exciting tactical battles where every choice matters.
Each enemy has a unique behaviour, and learning them is the key to mastering this unique battle system at the crossroad between puzzle games and RPGs.
Defeat is not the end: explore other paths, gather your strength and establish new strategies with a myriad unique fighters and skills.

Delve into a piece of speculative fiction that questions technology, ethics, and the weight of unspoken family trauma. Investigate both the present and childhood memories to find out the truth between Amelia's kidnapping, and the true reasons behind the mysterious game she finds herself playing.

This entirely hand-drawn world comes alive to a soundtrack that blends epic orchestra and synth music, creating a unique atmosphere where ancient history meets futuristic technology.

Could use some QoL to help speed up some of the battles, exploration and cutscenes but the game itself is wonder. Great music, a battle system that's a joy to play with, fun characters and a very compelling story. At some point in time this game will be "unearthed as a hidden gem" and it fully deserves it. Until that happens I'll keep recommending the game to everyone I can, Opal Grave has found itself a fan in me.
This game is just a pure trial-and-error fest. Even with the newly added "retry" feature, the fights still involve too much repetition for me to enjoy it
Great mix of escape game and tactical RPG. I recommend :-) The plus ++++ : - You improve your characters only through exploration : there is no XP system in Dissimilar - The difficulty is well balanced : some tactical fights are quite hard, especially the Elite, but most of them are optional. Actually, the game requires you to defeated only 2 bosses, the 6 others being optional. - The mental palace system allows you to reread information you have already acquired (especially where you can find new informations or which keys you have yet to use) : you are never lost in Dissimilar - The TRPG system to open doors is pure genius : compared to a classic escape game, you don't need to search the whole rooms for letters, numbers, codes which is definitely what I dislike is escape game. - You need to watch and learn the ennemis : knowing their patterns and their abilities is mandatory, and first encounters can be pretty ... violent. That cosmos tank had it coming ! - Love the story about the "experiment", especially its conclusion, but I can't spoil more than that ;) The minus ---- : - No retry system : when you lose a fight, you need to find a battery to recharge your plasma (which can take a whole minute to go back-and-forth) and you can't start again the fight right after being defeated - Some boss patterns are pretty hard to decipher (I still haven't the slightest idea of how the queen dance system works and I defeated her somehow). Don't be afraid to die and retry ;) - The end of the game : Once you (Amelia, your character) chose to put and end to the escape game, which is required to reach the end of the video game Dissimilar, you (the player) just stop playing (no more TRPG, puzzle nor exploration) and the whole game ends as a narrative cinematic. A book or an animation movie would do the same job, since all you're doing anymore is reading dialogues. It's pretty coherent with the story, but ... I don't know... meh :/
A great gem of a game with beautiful art, a great story, and fun turn-based gameplay, held back by some small quality of life issues. After being brought to a mysterious castle filled with locked doors, Amelia is thrown into a trpg larp full of robots. There are essentially two narrative threads - the trpg involves fighting enemies in turn based battled, defeating bosses, unlocking paths through the castle, etc. And figuring out what's really going on involves sneaking off the game map, breaking the rules, and slowing deciphering what's actually going on. The interplay between the two threads is really good - at narrative developments are compelling and the ending feels well-earned. Every battle is hand-crafted and all of the enemy moves are deterministic. While you can heal or shield most of the characters, you very notably can't do that with Amelia, and if Amelia is reduced to 0 hit points, you automatically lose. This makes the battles much more akin to puzzles where you need to move characters to the right place to doge attacks, more akin to something like Into the Breach, as opposed to a more traditional trpg affair. It was a ton of fun. I played using keyboard and there are a few rough edges. As you "solve" the battles, you often have to backtrack to a heal point to restore your hit points. In most places, the game is good at giving your short-cuts to make this backtracking fast enough, but there are a few notable places (particularly on the bosses) where you're doing a little more backtracking than is ideal. But ultimately, the game is great, and if you're the kind of person who likes this style of gameplay and story, the pros easily outweigh the cons.
Surprisingly intriguing story and engaging combat system. I dont know why it has so little reviews
I like the art, story and game mechanics. Really would love the play it to the end BUT the fights are a matter of trial and error. Understanding the enemies and plan accordingly so you loose more or less every fight at least once. Then you have to run and try to find the health refill which also resets all fighting locations...this is so boring. It really feels like a mechnic to prolong the playtime, something I think indie developers should never do. I want to try directly again while my memory of the fight is fresh. A save slot can easliy fix this. Refund for me.
Haven't had the time to play much, but what can I say. The music is way too good, artistic direction is on point, gameplay for now is great. Really recommended ^^
What a fantastic game. The graphics and music are lovely and the central sci fi mystery is very compelling. The battles are pretty great too. They start out more as puzzles but as you slowly start peeling away the layers of the castle and finding secret passages and keys and upgrades it becomes more of a tactical strategy game with puzzle elements. I've never played anything quite like this and the storyline is dope. Has difficulty selections for anyone having trouble.
Great puzzles, great story, fun combat that in itself is a puzzle. Love the hand-drawn art style. Worth your time for sure.
Je ne savais pas trop à quoi m'attendre, seulement 3h de jeu mais l'histoire est prenante, intrigante, on veut en savoir plus et les mécaniques de gameplay efficaces, j'aime beaucoup. Je ne peux que recommander ce jeu !
