Very cool game. There is a good story behind the game and if you are a fan of the NES RPG games this is one you should check out. The music is fantastic and the game play is done well also. The attacking does take some getting used to but overall very good free steam game.https://youtu.be/ul6vrTcjV1k
Super Star Hero is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel JRPG ripoffs spamming the Steam catalog, made with the OHRRPGCE (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine), famous for being even worse than the blight on gaming that is RPG Maker. Like all lazy construction kit Final Fantasy ripoffs, this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club weeaboo fan fiction. Basically, these guys didn't make a game, they filled out a couple of templates in a construction kit. This is a particularly badly made game that tries to rely more on a crap soundtrack that Spotify quality control would reject before hearing the first bar. There's a lame sci-fi theme, overall this is atrociously poor. Like all RPG construction kit games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options. Resolution is locked and the game features lazy 2D retro pixel art. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. All of this makes this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The game isn't strictly free, it's being used as an avenue to try charge people $3 USD for the godawfully terrible soundtrack. Competing with the radio, Spotify and people's MP3 collections is a bizarre and ineffective business model, but here we are. This is obviously impossible to recommend to gamers.
Like a lot of indie games on Steam, this game is really held back by it's engine and primitiveness. I honestly can't tell if it's trying to tell a gripping story because of it being "self aware", which comes off as a lazy excuse. Overall, it is very boring and confusing. I do enjoy the chip tune soundtrack, although I feel it is implemented poorly. Another heartfelt indie that sadly isn't worth 5 minutes of your time.
