Review with accompanying screenshots and video at Sinical Network
https://www.sinicalanimenetwork.com/post/2020/04/27/sunflower-review This is a neutral review for the following reasons below. I also recently received this game for free from korytoombs. Sunflower is the sequel to Kory Toombs's earlier visual novel LVN Fake News, and is a kinetic visual novel that includes adult yuri content. We continue the original story focusing on Alina as the protagonist this time directly after the events from LVN Fake News. Alina happened upon a church amid a sunflower field near her home one day, and thought she saw Lidiya. Despite Lidiya's earlier actions against LVN News Program (which nearly got the broadcasting station shut down), Alina decided to try to know Lidiya better because she had gradually built up an attraction to her. This title retains the charming light-hearted background music by Bittersweet Entertainment from the first game. It keeps the charm and humour in the daily broadcast segments at LVN News Program and adds a bit of adult humour when two supporting characters read a parody comic series called Captain Yuri. There is also an emotional segment in the game when Lidiya recounts her past which helped to provided a variety of feelings throughout the game. The artwork is made by a different artist this time, and for an adult visual novel, I feel the artwork is a vast improvement over the anime style artwork in Kory Toombs's earlier visual novel. As another pro, this game does not require an uncensored patch. You can play the game fully unlocked upon purchase. Sadly, Sunflower has a few noticeable cons. The first, and probably biggest con is that the novel suffers from a very short storyline, only lasting about an hour if read casually. The others are minor, but worth mentioning which include the inherent faults in the Visual Novel Maker software where it is not possible to scroll back or retrieve the message log history to check on dialogue that was skipped or clicked too quickly. This also prevents the ability to take and upload screenshots through Steam. In addition, I feel that in the only non-H CG in this visual novel, it failed to capture the rain that occurred in the scene, and showed a bright sunny weather instead. Although this isn't something that will bother everyone, it does break the immersion when the scene does not match up to the text. Overall, Sunflower has a bit of humour, quality artwork, and charming light-hearted background music to attract interest for a sequel to the LVN News series. However, the short length of this kinetic visual novel, predictable storyline, lack of Steam profile features, and current price ($4 at the time of this review) prevents me from recommending the game. If the game could expand further with an appropriately priced DLC or free update, or if the price becomes more attractive, I might be more comfortable with recommending the game in future.
Game-play
This is a virtual novel without decision making, so all you will need to do is read text. If reading a short-story does not appeal to you, then this is one of the worst games you could have clicked-on. - How to Play - Left-click or hit the "enter" key to progress the story. Don't hit the "esc" key unless you want to instantly close the application. Then again, an "abort-everything" button should be a staple for all lewd games. Save often, and watch those fingers!
Story
We first meet Alina, who retails a blissful time in her past as walks beside rows of sunflowers. As it turns out, she's blissfully ignoring her role as a member of a news team. Ivana and Nadiya are at a loss without their traffic/weather reporter. But they continue to the broadcast (because they have to). There's a girl named Lidiya, who's a source of contention among the news crew. As a matter of fact, Ivana and Nadiya strongly dislike her. With a passion. But Alina finds Lidiya very attractive, and she wants a piece of her. Problem being, Lidiya has done some serious wrong (which is later revealed) to Alina and her friends, but Alina is willing to forgive her. As Alina tries to seduce Lidiya, the story also follows a budding relationship between Ivana and Nadiya, whom bond over a a "magna" comic. It features a set of heroes, Yuri and Sub, whom also engage in a romantic subplot. There's a lot of romance in this story. Even the sunflowers can't get away from the overflowing romance this title has to offer! You'll. . . see what I mean if you read far enough.
Visuals
The user-interface is serviceable. It isn't fancy, but it gets the job done. It resembles any old, generic virtual novels' interface. I was hard-pressed to find an "options" pane, which you'd think should be readily accessable. You can save and load at any point, but you can only go forward in the story. If you miss some dialogue, well I hope you you've been saving. The character portraits look like decent anime-girl portraits. They aren't varied (beyond some basic changes of expression), so learn to like them. They appear to be the same portraits used in the Developers' other titles, so I'm awarding lazy-points. The full-art scenes are drawn by someone-else entirely, and are top-notch. If the rest of this title's assets were drawn by the artist behind the "CGs", then this virtual novel would have a very unique, high-budget style unknown to similar titles. It's too bad that there wasn't more full-art scenes, as I counted three. Only two were lewd, and only one contained sexual-content. I have a feeling that this artist was where the game's budget went. There's also no "gallery mode", so you have to replay the game to re-see the artwork.
Verdict
I'm actually on the fence about this game. I didn't find the story to be terribly engaging, nor did I find the visuals to be anything but standard. The full-art scenes were amazing, but few and far between. As a story, this game is okay. As a lewd-title, this game fails. So think of this game as a romantic tale between (several) lovers, with a little bit of lewdness sprinkled in. Grab it while it goes on sale, and enjoy a few hours of content.
Support the Wombat
If you enjoy my review(s), please follow my Curator page. The question is, Would I buy this game If I Knew how long it was and the content that it has? the answer is NO. The game is a little long. that is due to the text scrolling takes a while, No way to speed up the text. the graphics are ok. The artwork is very repetitive about 10 or 15 f the same pictures (girls). Backgrounds are also very limited. The Adult part of the game about 7 pictures (nude girls). I have played better games with better everything in them and at a cheaper price. Thank you for reading.
the only thing good about this visual novel is the artwork which there is only 5 pieces. so let me explain why this isn't worth much. first off the story felt so boring. 2. no gallery. no option to hide ui, no log, no options. while this may connect to another vn that kory did i think its missing the most basic features of a normal visual novel. if you miss something you can't go back. so you would need to go through the entire thing to the part you missed.
Pretty boring visual novel. The artwork wasn't even that good, the plot was worse. And why do all their names end with "a"?
This short story could've been cute, but it has too many small issues, and it's a classic death by thousand cuts for me. The writing is passable, most likely done by a non-native speaker. There are a couple annoying your/you're and similar misuses here and there. The story jumps around with little to no logical transitions between scenes, clumsily leading to one plot twist, but it kinda falls flat, and is quickly glossed over. You might be thinking, this is sold as an H kinetic novel, so literary qualities are secondary, right? And there's technically one sex scene at the very end, but it's incredibly short (just a few sentences) and non-descriptive. Another huge issue is that the art sourced for the normal characters/backgrounds and H scenes are very different in style, by two very different artists and the character direction is very mismatched, so it just comes out jarring. There's also a bonus "manga" on the side, but for some reason it's drawn like a normal western comic and flows left-to-right, which is unnecessarily confusing. Oh, and there's no actual plot or any sort of conclusion, just a bunch of random events happening. Yes, it's cheap on sale, but you can spend an hour of your life better by sleeping tbh.
Literally one of the dullest visual novels I've ever forced myself to finish
Short and boring. It's hard to say something more about this game. Even if you're here just for yuri - it's definitely not worth. Check my Curator's page for more reviews: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41437353-mnik%2527s-Experience/
