The game is not terrible yet I have to give a negative review since it does have issues and the developers have stopped responding to comments. The Good: - Different kinds of boards - An adventure mode that I had not seen in other games - A hint system if you need it The Bad: - No response of the developers to the following items: - Some boards generated by the game can have more than one solution. This is a killer for me. - Some people complains of crashes. - It's not intuitive that you can drag large boards around with the right mouse button
I originally bought this for my wife, as she loves solving Sudoku puzzles... and she more or less forgot that the game existed after a single play-though. I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe its just that she's not as into gaming as I am. I'll give it a try". Nope. It's just a fundamentally boring experience all in all. If you want to play Sudoku, I would suggest just doing so in the weekly newspaper rather than paying for this. 2/10
I wanted to like this game, but alas I could not. The sudoku is good, the multiple boards - once you learn that you can drag them around the screen to see the hidden bits - are good, but one user pointed out that solutions are NOT UNIQUE, that one starting position had seven distinct solutions... and the developers basically did not answer and were never seen again. I've been waiting for an update, and one has never shown up. So basically abandonware, worse now that incompatibility with newer Windows versions means that it often won't even start.
I like the attempts at novelty on the tried and true sudoku formula. The nomiko variant is initially interesting but isn't actually much different, once you get used to it. You always solve puzzles in the exact same way. I also like the fact that you only need to solve certain squares to advance a level -- since a Sudoku puzzle always starts off at maximum difficulty and get easier as you go, this is a clever way of avoiding the tedious last third, where you're just filling in obvious cells. This title has a real lack of polish, though. There's no background music, and a number of technical errors mar what could have easily been a fun timewaster. There's not a quick/easy way to input 'possible' values. You have to click on the pencil to toggle this on/off each time. Playing on paper or the Nintendo DS is a markedly better experience. You're probably better off just googling "play sudoku" and going with whatever HTML5 bs pops up.
It would be a great sudoku game, but due to some crashes, I cannot reccommend it. I was playing on my PC, and suddenly it started to crash on the launch. I moved to my laptop, and it was everything fine until recently, when the game stopped on the loading screen forever. Also, the game never worked offline. It would be perfect to play while traveling, since this is a casual game, but you need a connection or the game crashes. I tried to contact the support, but the page indicated on the steam doesn't exist. It seems the devs stopped supporting the game. I liked very much the interface, and the theme, but with those unsolved problems I cannot reccomend this game.
The custom game mode was the highlight for me with the option to play Classic, Nonomino or Overlapped Classics. However there were too many issues preventing me from continuing on with Adventure Mode. As others have mentioned, non-unique answers, to the point where once I used a hint to show which number they wanted and the hint was wrong. It told me it had to be an 8 but it wasn't. The later levels will often show you partially off-screen puzzles. Twice I was forced to abandon my run because I filled in every single square possible (a handful are impossible to click on because they're so off-screen and covered purposefully by the map, the mouse won't highlight the square). I guess the game doesn't account for this, despite it being one of the main hurdles implemented to make the puzzles more difficult, softlocking the game. And lastly after an hour of playing I was suddenly unable to use my keyboard to solve the puzzles. It'd take away my hearts every time, tried on multiple games and just hovering over with the mouse, still counted every move as wrong. Using your mouse to click on the numbers across the bottom and back up to the grid worked as intended most of the time, but still just another thing that had issues. It's not the worst sudoku game but there are better, less finicky options out there.
About a month or two after release, the game stopped working. Apparently due to a compatibility issue with newer versions of drivers or runtime libraries. Check the forum, lots of people are having this issue and it's been about 18 months with no fix.
This is a decent Sudoku game. You've got to be careful on adventure mode, as your tenth incorrect guess means you loe and have to restart. If you try to solve the puzzles quickly, this means if you press a few wrong keys (say there's a cold day and your fingers lock up a bit), that's it. There's a number of things to help you, if you need the help. Those powerups could have been improved a lot, especially if mousing over them told you what they actually did! I notice some comments about stability, but the game has been very stable for me so I believe any issues were resolved. Overall I recommend this game.
