Like many have stated the interface is to bad, but I needed to try it for myself. I love the board game version. It is a intense white knuckle nail-biter; every choice you make has pros and cons. Each troop placement and equipment card matters. What partly helps out is your locations powers. The problem is the location powers are buggy and sometimes do not even work. This game does not get to the table enough and I would have really wanted a digital version. This is not a working game. IMO should really be pulled from Steam, it is simply not playable.
TL;DR -- Too slow with willful timer that willfully makes you wait for the cards to resolve their actions. (Note "willful" and "willfully".) This greatly extends the length of the game---and even without it, the game is slow. I just minimize the screen while the game plays out...not-much-fun. ---- This game has a countdown timer between card plays...you do nothing while waiting for the "pause" timer to count down and the card to activate. It is like sitting at a red light...light turns green...and the one car in front of you has a countdown timer -- making you wait a few seconds before pressing the gas pedal (correction: make that every car in front of you that pauses a few seconds). Turning off animations does not stop timer. Turning off "observe combat" does not stop timer. ---- Cannot quit game without seeing ads. In fact, there is no quit choice in options list...but there are several links to advertisements. Marketing and ads are cornerstone for this game at start up and end -- the designers are very bold in them. You have to figure out to hit ESC to bring up the quit option (seriously)...but ads are right there waiting for you to click on them. The is a non-discrete exit icon located far from the list in the bottom corner...so easy to miss -- read about it elsewhere. ---- Sound effects are OK to good. One, a hum, is a solid win. ---- Graphics work fine. ---- Game really lacks interaction once combat starts (and the accursed timer that makes you wait). Sometimes the game stops after you minimize-the-game-to-go-do-something-else and you have to maximize, click a target, and then re-minimize and get-back-to-other-stuff...
They removed multiplayer??? What the ♥♥♥♥???
There's no in game resolution option. It's nearly impossible to see anything. The controls are also pretty ass.
I am playing this game for the first time in 2023, and I love it. I have seen a lot of previous reviewers mention the amount of bugs and/or issues they have run into, but that has not been my experience. The game is fun, challenging, and stable. I encourage more people to give this game a shot. This is mostly a solo game though, so if you're looking for a multiplayer experience, there does not seem to be a very large community of active players.
Can't recommend this game due to "Cross-Platform Multiplayer" being advertised, but online multiplayer is actually disabled in-game when logging in thru your Asmodee account. If this is ever fixed in the future, then I'll revise my review accordingly.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS SOONER?!? Xenoshyft: The Video Game is a Recreation of the Board Game Variation, a Kickstarter project that was successfully funded and moved on into Retail. The game plays almost identically to its Tabletop Component. You are charged with the defense of your Mining Base while they extract Xenosanthem, a Mineral that powers all of Mankind's machines in the future of today's world, typically found on foreign planets, the presence of such produces high levels of radiation causing local inhabitants to become mutated, and over several generations, evolve into horrid abominations. Your role in the game as the player is to take up the role of one of the Divisions of Nortec, a Military Organization, and with up to 3 other players (effectively 3 other divisions) hold out for 3 waves consisting of 9 rounds of combat total. The game is won if your Base HP isn't at or below 0 by the end of the 9th round, meaning you've held out long enough for the Mining process to get done so you can get the hell out of dodge. You lose the game in the event the Base HP ever falls below 1. You will get a quantity of Xenosanthem every round to spend to purchase troops and items, with access to better Troop choices as the waves progress, but be warned, the enemy will get stronger too. You will also get more Xenosanthem as you go. Items and Troops you purchase go into your discard pile when used or defeated, which gets reshuffled into your draw deck when it is depleted. This means a purchase of an item will promote the opportunity to draw it again without purchasing it, and the same is true for Troops as well. Each Division gets a unique set of abilities that expand as the waves progress, some will reduce the costs of items in your shop depending on the type while others allow you to grant temporary barriers or do damage. With multiple Divisions and/or Players (Yes, in Solo Play you can play multiple divisions by yourself) players can play Instants into other player's lanes (Each player plays their troops to these Lanes, think of them as the Frontline or the Walls with which your Troops will engage the Opposition) as well as Troops of their own, deployed Troops can also use their abilities from their Lane to do things in other players Lanes, allowing a great deal of control and resource management as you fend off the Xeno Threat. The Solo Play sports a surprisingly bug-free environment, contrary to a lot of the reviews, though I haven't played any Multiplayer at this time, which may be where bugs are more likely to happen. As for DLC, it's honestly a fantastic arrangement, 10 dollars for all of it, and Dreadmire alone adds MOUNTAINS of content to the game. The others don't add as much but for the price, you get a lot of content, and almost all of it can be used together if you so choose. For the asking price, the game deserves more attention on Steam than it ended up getting, in my opinion. I highly recommend it to those that are fans of the Tabletop experience and/or a big fan of Aliens. There are also some Warhammer (40k) vibes to be enjoyed. 9/10
Too simplistic and luck-based. One can only plan and strategize to a very limited degree to keep The Hive at bay. I was expecting a strategy game with a bit more meat to it.
