About
Diary of Corporal Wilson, March 7th, 1945
Somewhere near Remagen, Germany
We’ve just taken the bridge at Remagen – made a breakthrough they never saw coming. Speed was our ally. The day was chill, no snow luckily, but nevertheless our breath was forming clouds in the crisp air. And yet, we took to action, flanked their Pak 40 positions with our Shermans, locked down the east bank with a barrage by 75mm M1 Howitzer and pushed forward before they could react.
The whole thing was wired to blow – but we moved too fast. They didn’t have time. This wasn’t about firepower, but timing. Planning. Discipline. Every move counted, and we made it to the other side! This could well be the beginning of the end for this gruesome war.

Realism.exe cannot be found. Seriously why does my Tiger with its 88mm take three rounds to kill a soviet supply truck? Why does Infantry seem to only be tickled by machine gun fire? You know, machine guns, the thing specifically developed to defeat Infantry charges? Rocket launchers that can barely shoot beyond line of sight. In fact why does every artillery piece have such a laughable range? Two bombs from a Stuka right onto a KV-1 does "checks notes" a quarter health of damage?! I watched a soviet anti tank gun survive like 5 direct hits from my howitzer. It's all just such a strange departure from my childhood favorite Sudden Strike 2. Artillery barrages used to feel impactful and were absolutely necessary. Now it just feels like some strange rock paper scissor style Infantry counter.
Truly love this game. Really an improvement in everyway over Sudden Strike 4. Its absolutely beautiful and a lot of fun. You have to be smart and plan your attacks not just go in blindly or you won't succeed particularly on higher difficulties. Unit variety and abilities feels great. Can't wait for the expansions. 10/10 from me.
Better than 4. SS4 was a dissapointment. I have like 3k hours on Sudden Strike 1 and 2. For SS players, the jump from crazy amounts like 2000 soldiers in a Sudden Strike game to like 100 because of money was the saddest thing to see. There was D day and how many soldiers were there.. 150? sad. This game is also sad because 250 max is sh**, but.. the missions are kinda good. maps are better.. Playable.. If i could say something more, Id definetly mention the realism. The game lacks it. in SS2, soldier got hit 2 times, gone. now a submachine gunner has to empty 5 mags from point blank range to one soldier to take half of health away, soldier gets hit in the head with an artillery shell and just 10hp damage. If it only would be harder for both sides like: more damage, more soldiers, more deaths, more points, more rotations, like real war, we would accept it, now you lose few soldiers and the missions says failed.. like you have to preserve and cherish the 100 youre given. crazy, sorry. losing 500 in ss2 was okay. i think i speak for a majority of OG players.. The last thing is the game modes for early coop. If there could be one more simple mode that isnt time related, it would be great. both modes now end after time, If there could be full conquest to the last soldier with no timing, maps from campaign. Would bring a lot of people id say, now its not that good when games 1v1 end after 20 mins.. sorry and thanks
The game isn't bad and it's been very fun playing it so far for 17-18 hours but I find certain things really disappointing. 1. The lack of a map editor. 2. The lack of more maps for skirmish scenarios and, 3. The domination mode which sadly requires one to capture some flags to unlock really good units. There should be an option to allow all units to be available at the start of the game, have higher starting or higher per minute resources allocation to enable more massive battles. 4. There's a bug or glitch where tank crew inside vehicles appear in some campaign maps sitting or standing and stationery in one spot while the vehicle moves in some direction, leaving behind images of their tank crew in some spot. Not good. Please fix this. 5. There should be more scenarios and maps available in the campaign modes of each of the three factions. Where is the battle of stalingrad, leningrad, and battle for moscow, from both the Axis and Soviet sides. Where is the famous battle of El-Alamein. 6. Also, there's something thats sudden strike 4 got right that sudden strike 5 is lacking and that is the planes bombs which are dropped aren't as effective in Sudden Strike 5 as they are in Sudden Strike 4. In Sudden Strike 5, oddly the enemy planes and artillery seem to he lethal and dangerous whereas whenever you play as any faction, your own artillery isn't as effective even if it hits an enemy vehicle dead centre. 7. The fuel and ammo mechanics should also have an option to be put off so that one can focus purely on combat and not worry too much about logistics, during the skirmish mode at least, if not for both the campaign and skirmish mode. The most glaring disappointments would have to be the lack of enough maps in the skirmish mode, the lack of more famous battles in the campaign mode for each faction, etc. This game can be made replayable endlessly if it had a map editor or scenarior or allowed the modding community to make maps and upload it on the workshop of steam for players to play.
