About

Subway Builder is a hyperrealistic transit simulation game built using live data from US, UK, Irish, French, and Japanese cities.
Real-World Passenger Simulation
Millions of commuters are generated from Census and Redistricter data and simulated using the same pathfinding algorithms you use on your phone. Your job is to design a route network that gets the most people to their destination as fast as possible. Juggle station placement, transfer dynamics, and train frequency to maximize ridership.
In-Depth Analysis
Explore how individual commuters weigh tradeoffs between wait times, transfers, income distribution, delays, and more, to pick their commute. Understand which routes, stations, and trains your commuters take and use that information to optimize your network.
You must also find the right balance between cost and time using this analysis. Too many trains on a line or an overcrowded station may cause delays or disruptions.
Authentic Data
The US, UK, Ireland, France, and Japanese census records home and workplace locations. The game generates millions of commuters with homes from that and then uses a distance-based gravity model to assign them all workplaces. They're also assigned times to leave to/from work in a distribution similar to real life. Please note that a broadband connection is required to maintain the real data used by the game.
This decision is then made based on how long each commute method takes, how much it costs, and the value of their time (different commuters can have different incomes).
If they decide to take the subway you can follow their commute (and thousands of others simultaneously) as they get to work. If a train is delayed or cancelled, it will affect their commute and future commuters will take that into account.
College and airport commuters are also simulated and they behave differently since they have different income distributions and commuting times. Federal data is used for college student counts and FAA data for airports.
Current cities in Subway Builder include: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St Louis, and Washington in the US. Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Manchester, and Newcastle in the UK. Paris, Marseille, Lyon, in France. Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, and Nagoya in Japan, and Dublin in Ireland.

Super addictive for transit nerds! if you love transit but you also have a life, for your own good, don"t get this game.
DISCLAIMER: I received a steam key for free and the game's main dev has donated to my youtube channel. I will be keeping this review as unbiased as possible. Background: I probably have over two hundred hours across the steam and website version. I got the game in October after seeing City Planner Plays try it out. I was instantly hooked, I was entertained by the game's simple progression build line -> get ridership -> build more lines. I started making videos based with gameplay in Boston which caused me to research the city I had just moved to so it was a win-win-win. I have played a lot of different maps either during a video, stream, or just offline (I just finished a Baltimore save that kept me busy during my last two flights). Each map has its own challenges and it's fun to find out the best solution for each. I would play this game just as much if I wasn’t making videos on it. With that being said I will try to be as fair and honest in my pros and cons. Pros: -Insanely addicting -Easy to learn depending on your willingness to search out for help when needed -Simple gameplay loop but rewarding -Accurate data which leads to interesting discoveries (like I didn't know 5,000 people worked at that car factory or wow 20,000 people live over there in that suburb lets connect it) -Recent updates have improved the vanilla gameplay greatly (such as offline mode being added) -Easy to mod using the app Railyard -Super fun to try out different transit plans for your city or many different places (40+ cities now in vanilla and I think now 200+ cities are available through mods) -Major Issues like pathfinding, performance, and statistics have all be improved recently Cons: -High Price Point for Indie Game (this is based on general consensus with my background and love for these types of games the price point was fine for me) -Performance still needs work on lower end computer systems -Weird bugs (I seem to be very lucky cause I’ve only had the game crash when using mods never with just vanilla) -More train types need to be added (they're working on streetcars) -Devs poor response to general community during steam release and recent modding drama To finish this review I think the game is headed in the right direction. Depending on the main dev's willingness to proceed with focus the sky is the limit. I would recommend this game to any transit nerds, simulation game nerds, or anyone who wants a cozy game where the numbers go up.
very pleased with the concept of this game
No viable path simulator
It's excellent. Have been playing all day since release, will be playing all weekend. Especially satisfying making a network function in a transit-hostile city like Houston. The network effects/connections here are so beautiful. Add a new station, watch the butterfly effect across the entire rest of your lines. Tremendous stuff. The demand tools and tracking are impressive -- lot more depth here than it first lets on.
Good concept but the game is laggy and unpolished. There is not much to do once you have built lines. If the game were a quarter of the price I would recommend it, but right now the price is far too expensive for what little is being offered.
♥♥♥♥ this game, wether tf made this is a huge ♥♥♥♥.
