About
Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds.
Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.
Subnautica 2 is being crafted as a single-player experience that you can optionally play in online co-operative multiplayer with up to three friends. You can choose from four pre-designed characters, with more characters and customization options coming throughout Early Access. Work together to explore long-forgotten ruins and learn to adapt to a planet that might not want you there.
To survive the depths and make this planet your home, you’ll need to utilize all the tools at your disposal. Traverse vibrant and breathtaking biomes with your Tadpole submersible. Design and customize bases to return to when your adventures push you beyond the safety of shallow waters. As Early Access develops, so too will your array of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Upgrades will help push you beyond your boundaries and unlock the secrets of this strange world.
Scan and study a rich world of biodiversity to understand life here. Discover everything from the smallest creatures to towering Leviathans. Experience the wonder, and sometimes danger, lurking around every corner. Every dive is an opportunity to uncover why the ship's AI is so determined to continue the mission and what mysteries lie beneath the surface of this breathtaking new frontier.
Subnautica 2 is an Early Access title in active development. Throughout this journey, we will continuously expand the world with additional biomes, creatures, and craftables, while expanding the narrative. Subnautica 2 is being developed by Unknown Worlds, the studio behind the award-winning Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. Our journey began with the 2003 Half-Life mod Natural Selection, and today we have evolved into a fully remote, globally distributed team spanning from the United States to the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and beyond. Reviews
Considering how good Subnautica was, this is dissapointing, with it rushed out and a half thought out and developed storyline at best upon release
I truly wish I got my money back for this game. I would have never purchased it if I knew it was going to be this horrible. I loved subnautica 1, and below zero, so I figured this one would be just as good. The game is extremely short if you know what youre doing. Half of the map is closed off by a weird red barrier. There is not nearly as many cool creatures as the previous 2. If I had played this game first before 1 and below zero, I would have never even tried them with how bogus this game was. I would not recommend this game to anyone honestly. Its so unfinished it makes the game a waste of time and money to play.

It is beautiful, and there is a lot to explore and do, but it fails entirely to capture the spirit of the original game. Additionally, the decision to turn this into a multiplayer free-for-all entirely undermines the main narrative point of the game. Congratulations: you have made your game a streamer-fest, but forgotten to actually make it a Subnautica game in any real sense. I'll check back in 5 years when you might be done, but every roadmap you currently have indicates that you will neither change nor learn, and will continue to fawn over the Twitch streaming generation, rather than delivering a game your fans want
Before I begin my review, I would like to state that I do know the game is in early access. Thank you. The game is really what some people would call "woke slop" and sure, the game has some aspects that make it much cooler than Subnautica 1 and BZ, but as of right now, the devs have decided that they should be supporting an ocean cleanup charity (which will most likely do absolutely nothing towards cleaning the ocean) instead of focusing on game development. I was on the entire Krafton case since the game was first revealed almost 2 years ago. I do like some of the creatures however I, like most players, do NOT like the fact that you are not able to use your survival multitool to fend off predators. The entire storyline is just "pick up dropped logs, clear this virus, repair this heat turbine" with no actual spice. When I first played this game, I did not get the same thrill I got when I first played Subnautica 1. The devs want to revolve around proximity voice chat and multiplayer even though those should've been introduced in later updates. If you're going to get this game, be prepared for boredom.
As a huge fan of the first game, this is kind of a disappointment. You will see absolutely stunning visuals and architecture. The swimming relatively satisfying. The base building is also great compared to the first. My main gripe is the atmosphere of the game, the horror aspect has significantly diminished. Swimming in deep zones does not carry much of a risk, lots of oxygen pockets. Also a heavy reliance on vehicular transport which is rather tedious at times. You don't have to worry about losing your Tadpole at all, essentially invincible as long as you have a repair tool. The "Leviathan" the big bad is nothing but a basket full of puppies, just swim below, above, or around his ass. With the map also being as small as it is, there really is not a whole lot to do in it. I do hope in the future they improve upon these aspects, but for now I am putting the game to rest. I don't want an update that provides me proxy chat with people. I want to see a fully completed map, I want to see more of the story you showed us, let me kill things too, that would be awesome. Thanks.
Fun game and a great sequel to Subnautica 1 however I cannot recommend this game because the developers don't care about the game enough their sole focus seems to be on attracting streamers by adding multiplayer features not the game itself. I hope I'm wrong and I can come back and eat my words.
Subnautica 2 is a huge disappointment. The developers seem extremely ignorant of what players actually want, and some of their decisions are just bizarre. It’s especially weird that you can’t even kill fish. I understand that the game is focused on exploration and survival, but completely removing something that basic makes the world feel much less natural and interactive. Overall, it feels like the developers are ignoring player feedback and making unnecessary restrictions instead of improving the game.
Invincible Fish kill you and destroy your base. This game is about the weakest bunch of humans who rather die again and again instead of hurting a single predator. Big parts of the map are therefore basically off limits forever for basebuilding or lingering. you have to sneak and run because you can do nothing else. When this problem is solved, this maybe gets a recommendation but for now: No. If these fishes can´t die, the whole thing makes absolutley no sense at all. All the discussions regarding this topic are useless. The side defending the design descision can not understand, that the way of not killing anything can at every point be voluntary. Instead we are forced to be the most beta thing on the planet. No Domination here and just for the sake of lecturing the player. Thanks a lot but no. That was the last time I trust Subnautica for now. The first part is still by far the best one. The feeling of really beeing on another planet an not a disney adult playground. What is good? I really like the visuals and the Basebuilding mechanics. You can see, they do know what they are doing. So there is a lot of fun in playing it. But in the moment you understand the nature of its problems, it´s not shining anymore. I am still hoping, they solve this in a good way, but it´s only a little hope. They seem to be stubborn with this. I don´t know. I stopped in the middle of my first run because it became so boring. Not the world and not the game in itself but the comically hillarious design descisions did that to me. Why would I want to be the most helpless person in mankind?
After learning about the EULA I'd REFUND this game if I could, instead I'll just encourage other people to save their hard earned dablooms and put it elsewhere.
What a let down, hey.
