Stoneguard is an immersive strategy game set in a grim medieval apocalypse, where you must defend the magical Lifestone.

Protect the Lifestone
You start with nothing but the will to survive in an apocalyptic world. You protect humanity's only source of magic, the lifestone, from falling into the wrong hands. To defend the last glimpse of hope: Craft walls, build towers and fortify.

Experience Traumatic Injuries & Gruesome Encounters
Accurate weapon tracing detects which body part has been hit. You must be tactful in combat to protect your vital limbs and choose which parts of your enemies to sever. Every lost limb carries severe consequences, hindering your performance in both battle and daily survival. But as long as the Lifestone is protected, there are ways to heal your battle wounds.

Craft with the Remains of Monsters
Strategize your defenses before nightfall, then command and fight alongside your survivors in battle. Issue orders amid the chaos as you face five distinct boss encounters, each summoning new hordes of enemies. Craft and research powerful weapons forged from the limbs of your fallen enemies.

Basebuilding and Resource Management
Hunt and gather resources from the world around you, recruit survivors to join your settlement, and work together to gather, craft, and build. Expand your community with housing, farms, workshops, and more as you create a thriving community amid the apocalypse.

A Unique and Immersive Strategy Game

Game is EA and for a two man team they did well with proof of concept. This is by no means a complete product so do not buy it if you are looking for a 100s of hours to dump in game yet. Buy it because you want to get this small two man team to dump more time into its development and you want to see where the project goes based on what is clearly a "Proof of Concept" only. You are limited to "wood and stone age" early developement. Game can be more or less all be seen from a building and equipment point of view. Day 6 of game time in game more or less gives you "most" experiences you'll have. There are more mobs and things to see later but its not really finished beyond that point. It is as i said a "proof of concept". I like where this games going for now I am in agreement that people should purchase this and show it support. Good: -Potential Future of the game -Fun Variety of foes already seen 6 types of foe and a boss mob. -There are some real potential from the building -There is Potential from the crafting -Potential in general Cons: -It is early access (jank is obviously always a given with a project in EA). -The game really has only 1-3 hours of real game play currently in it. Hopefully it will be updated and expanded on in the future.

Stoneguard is a survival strategy game developed by Thorn Spire Games and published by Wandering Wizard that combines city building, action combat, and resource management within a grim medieval fantasy setting. Rather than observing events from a distant overhead view, players actively participate in the defense of their settlement by controlling a hero who gathers materials, constructs vital buildings, and fights alongside fellow survivors. At the heart of the experience is the Lifestone, a magical relic that represents humanity's last hope against overwhelming darkness. This premise creates a compelling blend of personal involvement and large-scale strategic planning, making every decision feel significant as civilization hangs by a thread. The gameplay revolves around an effective cycle of preparation and survival. During the day, players collect resources, expand their settlement, assign survivors to productive roles, and strengthen defenses before the inevitable enemy assault begins each night. Building homes, workshops, farms, defensive walls, and watchtowers requires careful resource allocation, forcing players to prioritize immediate survival over long-term ambitions. As the settlement grows, managing the workforce becomes increasingly important, since every survivor contributes to the community in different ways. The steady progression from a fragile camp into a heavily fortified stronghold delivers a rewarding sense of accomplishment while maintaining constant pressure to stay ahead of the escalating threats. One of Stoneguard's most distinctive mechanics is its detailed combat system. Battles are not simply about reducing an enemy's health bar but revolve around realistic injuries and limb damage. Characters can lose arms or legs, permanently affecting their combat performance and overall effectiveness until they receive healing. Enemies are equally vulnerable to these mechanics, allowing players to disable dangerous opponents through well-placed attacks rather than relying solely on brute force. This feature gives every encounter greater intensity and encourages thoughtful positioning, timing, and weapon selection instead of repetitive hack-and-slash gameplay. Progression extends beyond construction and combat through a crafting system that makes excellent use of defeated monsters. Rather than serving as ordinary loot, creature remains become valuable materials for forging stronger weapons, armor, and equipment. This creates a satisfying loop where successful battles directly improve future survival prospects. Research also plays a meaningful role by unlocking new technologies and defensive options that allow settlements to evolve over time. Boss encounters provide another layer of progression, presenting powerful enemies that test both strategic planning and combat skills while rewarding players with rare crafting materials needed for advanced upgrades. The game's atmosphere reinforces its survival-focused design with dark medieval environments, unsettling monster designs, and a constant sense of impending danger. The day-and-night cycle serves more than a visual purpose, naturally dividing gameplay into periods of preparation and desperate defense. Every sunset introduces tension as players wonder whether their fortifications will be sufficient to withstand the coming siege. The third-person perspective further enhances immersion by placing players directly in the center of the action instead of viewing the settlement from afar, strengthening the connection between the player and the community they are trying to protect. As an Early Access project, Stoneguard already establishes a strong gameplay foundation while leaving room for substantial growth. The current version delivers the core mechanics along with endless survival content and an initial progression path, while the development roadmap promises additional bosses, enemy varieties, buildings, siege equipment, expanded customization, improved artificial intelligence, story content, tutorials, and quality-of-life improvements. The planned updates suggest that the developers intend to steadily expand both the strategic depth and overall variety, giving the game considerable long-term potential if these features are successfully implemented. Stoneguard succeeds by combining multiple genres into a cohesive experience that rewards planning as much as direct action. Its emphasis on active participation during combat, meaningful settlement management, brutal injury mechanics, and monster-based crafting helps distinguish it from many conventional survival strategy games. Although its full potential will depend on how its Early Access development progresses, the current concept already offers a promising and engaging foundation for players who enjoy challenging base-building games with a strong focus on action and survival. Rating: 7/10
Stoneguard is great, you can honestly tell that this game is a passion project for Thorn Spire Games. I love the mix between the player using medieval technology while a great big spaceship drops strange monsters to attack. I really love how you can split the survivors into regiments and organise them to defend in different ways. The anxiety you feel before each wave is what keeps you moving as the number of monster increase rapidly as each night goes on. When the first boss appeared, it was terrifying and showed me how unprepared my small force of seven peasants with bows were it. This game rewards using many different strategies, my favourite being using a thousand archers on a wall and a prayer (in real life) but you could absolutely just focus on getting the best armour and weapons on all your survivors, or you could build some sort of wall maze to the Lifestone with archers on the walls (I need to try this). Honestly for the price of Magic The Gathering pack or two pints at a Wetherspoons, this game gives you a lot of playtime AND lots of fun with your friends. Plus the game is in early access and the full version promises so much more!
Hold off on buying this. Wait until it's out of EA. I didn't expect much because of it being EA. And with most EA games ya never know if it will ever be finished. The idea is neat. But needs lots of work. This survival community building is all the deal now. Lot of other games out right now with that mechanic and do it better. NPC's are kinda dumb. They run around most the time. Sometimes they all gather over a stump and just take turns swinging at it but not cutting it down. So no wood is being generated. You can equip NPCs but you also can't. I made one single set of wooden armor and could equip all the NPCs with it. I don't think that's even supposed to work that way. You are supposed to be able to give NPCs a new weapon but you can't. It just doesn't let you. Cost of getting more NPC's spikes. The cost of buildings, and the speed at which you get resources for them, and the speed of building them just doesn't seem to make much game sense. Especially when you are bombarded every night with waves of enemies that just keeps growing. You really have no chance at all to really prep. You basically have to decide if you want to make a building, get resources, or make some tools. Then bam. horde. Research building doesn't even work. I assigned a NPC and nothing happens. The only real advantage you have is that the demon horde are stupid. And you can run back to the crystal and heal. There's a frame work. But it needs a lot of time in the oven. Fixes. Balancing. The game has things set up for stuff that isn't even in the game. The promo material makes it look like you can create this giant kinda fortress. With walls and defenses. Yeah no. Ya not doing any of that. Things ramp up way before you can even craft gear. There is literally no time to get anything ready. Let alone ever even get the resources to do it. Also. Other than the torch you hold. Standing torches are just useless. They offer practically no light.
Cant even get the feeling of the game cos its so bugged nothing works there xd Brightness settings resetting randomly all the time, other settings resetting too from times to times. Tried to gather berries, couldnt, gave up. This might have potential, but for now this is not playable at all.
I bought two copies so my buddy and I can have some base building/crafting/management/survival fun!... the problem was it didn't work. The Online Co-op is unreliable right now... The game worked for me just fine (I hosted the game) but my friend kept getting bugged out to the point where it crashed his Steam. He tried it multiple times but it kept doing the same thing. We play Online Co-Op together all the time so it wasn't him/us. It looked like it would be a cool game if it worked... I had to Refund it, even though the price is amazing. There's just nothing I can do with it if I can play with my friends. I'll be back to check up on how the game is doing is a few months and try again... I just hope I remember. The whole thing is documented here on my livestream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lki_qBuD0Wg&t=7716s
