About
Formerly known as Post Scriptum, Squad 44 is the most authentic WW2 first-person shooter, featuring 20 large-scale battlefields, upwards of 150 realistic WW2 weapons, and over 120 true-to-life vehicles. You must prioritize communication, coordination, and teamwork to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Experience real WW2 campaigns, such as the liberation of the Netherlands and the Battle of Normandy. The war stretched across farms, villages, and cities, and whether you’re jumping out of a plane, arriving by sea, or storming the battlefield in a tank, you’ll need to group up with your squad before taking on the enemy.
Fight as historic WW2 factions like the British 1st Airborne Division, the US 4th Infantry Division, and the French Army to take on the German Wehrmacht, the Waffen SS, and Fallschirmjägers. Other factions include the Australian Army, the Greek Royal Hellenic Army, the New Zealand Military Forces, the British Army, and the Polish Airborne Forces.
In Squad 44, teamwork is paramount to achieving victory. Enroll as a commander and order gun runs or artillery to support your team. Join the frontline as one of the many infantry roles. Run logistics and shape the battlefield with fortifications and emplacements. And keep everyone on the battlefield updated with our in-game voice chat. Talk directly with your entire squad or use the local proximity chat to talk to players nearby and help the flow of battle.
Be the scourge of the battlefield in one of the most feared monsters of WW2: the armored tank. Join a battalion with three other players and crew realistic steel beasts as the driver, gunner, or commander. Every vehicle in Squad 44 has been painstakingly created to represent the real tanks that roamed the battlefields of 1940s Europe. Each one features authentic functionality and armaments, meaning one thing: complete devastation to the enemy’s frontlines.
Experience the authentic reproduction of an incoming Stuka siren or artillery cannons firing from afar. The piercing sound of an incoming heavy round cutting through the air past you. The cracks of bullets and shrapnel. Squad 44 was designed with every little detail created with the utmost authenticity to the real-life weapons, vehicles, and battlefields used at the time. Don’t just play a game; experience the intense WW2 tactical military action of Squad 44.

To save the people who only read the first line time, don't buy this in its current state, it is a dead game. While I find this game more fun than its direct competitors, it has really regressed into simply a misery simulator. Which I suppose in that regard is quite on brand for the source material it is trying to cover. What remains of this dev team really needs to take a step back, bring out a whiteboard, and just write "is this actually fun?" on the top. Then work their way down through several of its core features from there. The best maps are those on the Western Front, the Pacific is a complete disaster show. One example is with the way you get caught on every little piece of foliage while sprinting. Getting caught on the odd hedgerow overgrowth in the Western maps is rare and occasional. You hop on Guadalcanal? Good luck even trying to Banzai charge when half the team is slowed to a snails pace because of an ankle high ficus. While the maps are massive, most of that space is empty and dead land with nothing to do but walk around. This causes teams to basically cluster around small points around the map, with rogue enemies and allies alike wandering around the woods aimlessly. This is another one of those games that will endlessly frustrate you as you are shot from random bushes and shrubbery with no hope of ever finding where the shot came from. Most maps need a complete overhaul, or perhaps a new game mode that actually makes players meet and compete head to head rather than every match being an immiseration competition between the worlds top 100 bush wookies. I'm saying this as someone as guilty of it as the next guy. This game has a lot going for it, but at the moment the only times I have fun are when I am playing with friends. So I can only recommend it to people with three or more friends who already have the game and are willing to set aside two hours to play with you. otherwise this game is not for you.
I think the game is very beautiful and fun but is mostly abandoned, atp i think Chernobyl has better population numbers than this game which is a shame
Absolute dead garbage. Any time I've tried to play there is MAX 1 server with more than 20 people. If you do find a server there is no communication, no explanation on what any of the markers mean, and if you want tutorials you have to go and find an online server because they can't even make local play tutorials work properly. Don't waste your money. Offworld is just killing every game they pick up.
So..hahaha, i ve played my fair share (400+hs) now the base game is great, just awesome, even those dummys who had problems with the "sprinting SIM" where just in the wrong place, these is a real WW2 game as close as real as it gets, BUT the current state (2025), it just horrid. Devs really beat to death these game, when the Pacific Update came out i suspected things were bad, but it got worst, the game is Dead (am not talking about these zombie updates). Some servers are active here and there, maybe tops 5 but never full, the 1 or 2 that are you will have to join a discord/community and thats a 50/50 maybe toxic or they are renactors high on their own aura, other issues are High ping, or getting kicked. I love these game but is not worth it,DONT BUY IT, OFFWORLD clearly killed it, my guess then never undestood the Fan base. RIP SQUAD 44 (POST SCRIPTUM FOREVER)
Dead game. doesnt matter how smooth it runs or graphically speaking, a large scale multiplayer mil sim game with no more than 150 players (1 1/2 servers worth good luck getting in one). no vanilla servers active ofcourse. i got it on sale for $8 and still feel a little ripped ngl.
Post scriptum, my lovely PS... It's a shame the game is dead and will likely never be revived. After the OW situation, there was hope, but alas, it's vanished into thin air. The only thing that can save this project is to make it free or at least give it away for a limited time like the terrible HLL. Don't buy it now, under any circumstances.
I bought and tried to play a while ago and all the veteran players were complete a holes that refused to offer any guidance and expected you to know every inch of the map. Now I know Its not their responsibility to baby sit but with the low player counts in this game...how much blame really lies with the devs(who provide a great bootcamp) v the current community mindset. From what ive played its a spectacular game but held down by its apparently snobbish vets and lack of patience to develop new community players. I have hope bc i believe this games gameplay/concepts/scale is much better than HLL but I literally have PTSD from the treatment by the community in game and still have yet to venture back in.
Niche game - definitely flawed but still deserves to be more popular than it is. Worth buying if you want a WW2 milsim. Tons of content for the money: 24 maps (with variable weather/time of day), military units from 9 different countries, 102 playable vehicles, 160+ weapons, and many mods that add even more. Pros: - THE BEST TANK COMBAT IN GAMING (more detail later in review) - Infantry gameplay is peak when your squad/team locks in. No other game hits quite the same IMO - Most historically accurate WW2 shooter on the market, with the best sound effects/sound design - Features WW2 theatres not seen in most other games (Battle of France 1940, Battle of Crete, Pacific theatre) - 15+ more maps and 80+ more vehicles and weapons from various mods - Active mod scene with battles from 4+ different WW2 theatres in development - The most popular gamemode just got revamped - old stale meta has been replaced with randomized objectives, so every match will be fresh - Passionate milsim-realism clan match scene ("PSRM" i.e. "Post Scriptum Realism Mod") with events every Saturday + Sunday (and some Thursdays). I highly recommend you try it out if you're interested in tactical combat in the fog of war, where every life matters. Bases of fire, suppression and maneuvering, coordination and pre-planning, desperately shouting critical info down the battle line trying to relay it to a radioman and up the chain of command. Lots of fun, if that's your thing. Cons: - No singleplayer mode, No PVE mode - A microphone is basically mandatory. If you are no mic and in any role besides basic rifleman/medic, people will flame you for no communication. If you are a squad lead or platoon commander with no mic, they will also ask server admins to remove you from your role. - Steep learning curve for new players who are only used to COD or Battlefield, and no tutorial gamemode. Newbies have to learn by asking questions in-game, watching youtube videos, or asking for help on the official discord server. - Current game devs are contracted only to work on the game part-time so updates are slower than otherwise. - The code base they inherited is spaghetti - a base of amateur modders hacking past old Squad game engine mod limitations, buried under layers of work-arounds by short-term temp coders under the previous dev studio. - New updates almost always come with bugs. They're reported quickly and the critical ones get a hotfix and the majority of bugs are fixed eventually, but some still haven't been fixed. - Optimization and performance has steadily gotten better, but you would expect a game of this age to get better FPS than it does. - The game is very CPU heavy and runs far better installed on a SSD vs a hard drive. - Playerbase is currently very, very small (but dedicated). COD/Battlefield players would look at the active server count and call it a dead game. I disagree, I can easily get into a full match any day of the week - but I also don't play at odd hours. - NA/EU servers currently start emptying around midnight west coast NA time. AU/NZ players probably play on CN servers due to timezones. - If your team has 0 experienced players the match will be a bad time, since inexperienced players typically aren't aware how to drop rally spawns for the squad, or do logistics to build team spawns - There's salty and vocal old players with a hobby of complaining "game's been ruined/dead game/game should be reverted to how it was X number of years ago" everywhere they have an opportunity to Tank combat highlights: Imagine the fun, chaos, and coordination of each vehicle being crewed by a squad of players (like Hell Let Loose) but with variety, detail, and damage modeling similar War Thunder. - Open your hatches to stick your head out for more visibility, and risk getting shot in the face - Spin out of control as one side of your tracks get blown off - Realize you've been screaming commands to a dead man, since the enemy's last shot penetrated your armor and killed your driver - Deploy your smoke canister launchers and scramble outside to conduct field repairs - Limp away from danger with broken gears in your transmission and a damaged engine - Get disabled amongst enemy infantry and try to survive as they shoot out your periscopes and set your fuel tanks on fire - Die as the fire burns you alive, or spreads to your ammo and your turret jumps into the sky - Study the enemy and learn their armor thickness, weakspots, and locations of critical components. Practice ranging your gunsights and learn which ammo types are available to each tank. Master how to kill with one well aimed, armor penetrating shot to the ammo rack - Angle your armor and watch enemy rounds ricochet - Immobilize enemies with damage to their tracks, engine or transmission - Defang heavily armored enemies by disabling their cannons or turret rings - Or just decrew the enemy with a big gun and APHE. Empty tanks can't fight back - Dominate the late war battlefield in a King Tiger or Jagdtiger, or the early war in a Matilda or Char B1 - Speed across the battlefield in Hellcats and M10s, or lie in stealthy ambush in a Jagdpanzer or Nashorn - Roam around in an AEC scout car and detonate careless Tigers with a good flank and a single expert shot to the side - Spew hellfire in a Char B1 flammwagen, Churchill Crocodile, or Sherman Zippo - Lob rockets in a Calliope or Panzerwerfer, or rain death in an Ostwind - Shred lightly armored vehicles with a .50 cal - Recreate that scene from Fury, rolling up in a Sherman with hull and coax MGs blasting, a guy manning the .50 cal on the back the turret, and infantry trailing in your wake Infantry gameplay highlights: - Bayonet charge your enemies - Ride into battle on the backs of tanks - Jump out of a plane and parachute onto the battlefield, or fly gliders down to landing - Attack beaches from landing craft that ferry you ashore - Range your rifle to engage enemies at distance - Become a specialist rifle grenadier, light mortarman, sapper, AT, marksmen, flamethrower, and more - Call in strafes, dive bombers, paradrops, gliders, and artillery - Dig up fortifications and prepare cover and defenses - Build player controlled mortars, heavy MGs, AT guns, howitzers, 20mm flaks and 88s - Manhandle AT guns into firing position, and then drag them back into cover - Be deafened by the thunder of artillery or the roar of a Tiger's engine as it charges toward you - Identify enemies by the distinctive sounds of their weapons, their uniforms, or by how they carry their rifles as they run - Locate enemies by listening for footsteps, the rustling of leaves, the rumble of engines, or the squeaking clatter of tracks - Toss bundle grenades, gammon bombs, satchels, white phosphorus, molotovs, frags, and smoke - Plant magnetic mines on vehicles or charge them with the suicidal Japanese lunge mine - Watch friends and enemies get shredded into a mess of flying limbs, or explode into a cloud of red mist Lots of fun to be had in this game. ----- If you made it to the end of the review I'll share a good tip: You DO NOT have to sit AFK in the server browser/main menu when waiting in queue to join a full server (it's not Hell Let Loose). You can play a match or practice in ANOTHER server while waiting in queue to join the full one. Just join the half empty or empty server from the server browser first. Once you've connected and loaded into the match, press ESC to use the server browser again and join the queue for the full server. Now you can play while the queue progresses :)
