Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports.

I remember buying this game 10 years ago. I was either 13 or 14 and this game looked awesome, a real "HACK THE WORLD" kind of experience, but in a more realistic light than WatchDogs. When I played it then, it was pretty overwhelming, throwing unfamiliar commands and phrases to my tiny Windows user brain. It was only when I was around a Junior or Senior in High School that I finally beat the game. It was beautiful, from the badass music to the witty humor hidden in text files; it was a peek into a world I wanted to be a part of. Immediately after, I began my Computer Science degree in College. I realized that all the phrases the game was throwing at me (SSH, FTP, SMTP etc.) were all real life protocols. It was thanks to this game that I had a head start in my studies, and it was the perfect foundation for my internal computer networking knowledge-base. And here I am now, getting my Masters degree in Cyber Security. I use Linux every day, built my own computers and run my own home lab. I've just completed Hacknet, done everything I can do. From Entropy to /el, I've seen everything the base game has to offer. Would I say it's a realistic hacking simulator? God no, but it's fun and a great entry point for the subject. TL;DR My life wouldn't be the same without HackNet. remember to rm * those /logs

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Cute little game with a great story Gameplay is superb Trump was in the Epstein Files The visuals and everything else were made with a lot of love Great to play on devices like laptops when you dont know what to do
If you are even slightly contemplating trying this game out, read this!!! This game, to me, was an absolute MASTERPIECE from start to finish. As someone who is pretty much compsci inept, bar the obligatory "hello world" Python script, this game absolutely hooked me in from the first contract. The tools used within the game are explained perfectly and are not complex; even someone like me felt like the typical underground hacker featured in a 90s movie, typing across 5 different keyboards after 30 minutes of solid gameplay. Once you've used the mechanics a couple of times, it becomes second nature to know when to use them and why. After that, you pick up on the subtle ways to sequence your commands to absolutely speedrun other systems. IMO it's even cooler that it teaches you actual Linux commands (from someone who's never gone near that OS, I had a little giddy moment when I realised that). The base game features an excellent storyline that evoked real emotion upon completion. I was immersed to the point of feeling the relief, satisfaction, pride, and bittersweetness provoked by how this game concludes Bit's chapter. An immense thank you to the dev team for making me fall in love with a game so out of my normal genres. Hacknet was an experience. One that I will want to replay again and again if only to hear that ending clip once more. It's insane to think something released just over a decade ago holds up so incredibly well today. The hard work put into every moment of this title, truly, still shines through today. Anyone scrolling through reviews contemplating it, BUY IT! You will NOT regret it - X
Won't teach you hacking, but teaches you about IPs, ports, folder structure and Unix commands, which is the first step. The story and puzzles are also excelent!
I haven't completed the game, and I just stopped playing because I needed a break. But thus far, I am so grateful for the devs. This game is AWESOME! I'm the kind of guy that usually lacks practice when it comes to these things. I have a depth of understanding, but I never take action. This game was it. The action I was searching for. I love the story, I love the puzzles, man I wish this could go on foreve-... it has an extension called labyrinths???? The game can be further modded??? I recommend for ANYONE who is interested in cybersecurity. 10/10 no questions asked.
deleted everything in /sys/ and ran forkbomb just to realize i ran it on my ingame computer instead of the target 10/10 would play again
