Spelunky is very challenging but fair(mostly). Control responsiveness is real crisp so you rarely feel like you didn't deserve the death. The RNG can be brutal at times, but if you enjoy working within limitations and playing by a game's rules, there is a lot to enjoy here. The game is often praised for its soundtrack but I feel like that's one of its weaker points, though there are a few standouts. The nice thing about this is that music isn't really necessary for the experience (no real plot or dialog to pay attention to) and can be played while listening to anything, which I appreciate. Dying doesn't feel too punishing either as restarts are quick with no loading, and they're often silly and ridiculous in some scenarios which helps ease the sting of dying on an otherwise good run. I didn't know if I would like this game but I'm glad I took the gamble. I bought this first on Xbox 360 back in the day (many hours on that version) and it's one of the few games I've "double-dipped" on, buying it on 2 different platforms because it's that good. I would give it a shot even if you're on the fence about it.
