This game has been a blast to play, even though extremely frustrating at times, which i will wanna talk about in a bit, but this game is so unique in terms of its reputation. The movement is absolutely pristine once you get used to it, and understanding the world's enemies and mechanics as you play through them, you eventually feel like you finally understand the game and can play around all the hazards and enemies you thought was really unfair at the start This game is definitely not for people who easily give up, you need a lot of time to learn the game, and a lot of the game will feel incredibly unfair at first, but if you keep at it, it will eventually start feeling a lot less like that, but instead incredibly satisfying to play. So, if youre willing to look past that, and persevere through some hours of trial and error, you get the gem which is Spelunky Even thought there are a lot of seemingly uncontrollable elements of the game, with the ways that you die, it honestly plays into the charm of Spelunky, without some of these mechanics and the infamous , the game would lose all of its "Spelunkyness" and lose most of its identity The achievements in the game feel like entirely different modes at times, having to relearn to play the game in some special way, which freshens up the game, albeit youll have to reexperience some of the frustrations of relearning So while the game can be frustrating at times, i still highly recommend it, learn enough, and eventually you will uncover the super fun yet chaotic experience of Spelunky

I like when the monkey steals my stuff and immediately jumps into a pit of spikes so neither of us can have it
Лучший симулятор сексиса. Кидай бабу во врагов! Кидай бабу в ловушки, чтобы обезвредить их! Приноси бабу в жертву! :D
A foundational piece of gaming history that holds up more than well today, Spelunky undeniably changed the way that both Roguelike and Indie games are seen by general audiences through its accessible though challenging gameplay. You could equate Spelunky to SMB 1 in the way that it's sort of just fun to move around regardless of progress made, while SMB 1 places the fun on how fast you can make the back of the screen scroll Spelunky opted to let that feeling go downward, focusing on how quickly you can descend through a procedurally generated twisting cave system. And again much like Mario, this focus on speed is not needed, you can choose, and are probably more likely to choose to move slowly through the game to start, securing every advantage through the Damsels and gold in the hopes of securing health and scarce resources throughout your journey. But as one grows more familiar with these systems and the way in which levels typically generate, they can be found dashing through levels, whipping arrows out the air and sidestepping enemies as they head for the goal. The fact that both these playstyles are valid and encouraged by the game is one of the reasons I think people play far past the 100 hour mark. Spelunky is a tough, but painfully fair experience. Lead Dev Derek Yu said last year "In theory, games are the perfect place to teach that failure is not only okay but a necessary stepping stone to success." and voiced concerns that many games now offer guaranteed progress, leading devs to fear putting points of failure in their games, and I think that sentiment is echoed in Spelunky. Failure is integral to the experience, nobody has ever picked up Spelunky and beat it on their first try, but the idea that you could from the moment you pick up the controller is part of what makes the game so enticing. Similar to a fighting game, you have all the tools for success from the moment you launch the game, all that there is to do is learn how to use everything you have to your advantage, but the game manages to be far less daunting than something like learning a fighting game or RTS, it's remarkably accessible for its level of depth and along with the "one more game" type itch it gives you, I think it does a great job at tricking the player into getting good at it. I really think Yu made something really special here, if you enjoy it the sequel is just as good and a lot harder, and 2024's UFO 50 is probably the game of the year that year. If you want something arcade-y you can pick up and play for 15 minutes at a time, I strongly recommend Spelunky.
♥♥♥♥ you all i hate my life
Probably the funniest multiplayer ever made and I'm not even exaggerating.
What I love most about Spelunky HD is the speed of how you can just keep moving and moving. Go go go! It means once you get good at the game, you begin to make your own little methods on how to deal with each of the hazards quickly. THEN, that's when you get to try and grab as many treasure and collectibles as you can. You begin to notice which items you like more than others and the best way to take out each enemy. And thanks to the journal, it encourages curiosity to look for things you haven't seen before. The secret areas in this game are neat, they have exclusive enemies and items you can't get anywhere else, an actual good reward. This game also feels fair. As in the vast majority of the time, if you die, you can pinpoint what your mistake was clearly and use the information for next time. That being said, I feel the difficulty in Spelunky HD is too front-loaded. The first area or two always feel the hardest to me due to the lack of equipment. There's also an important item you need to save for in order to get the true ending of the game, which makes it feel almost up to luck if you have enough money for bombs in the earlier levels. Because of this friction, I sometimes feel it's better for my time to just restart a run if I don't get as many treasure spawns in the early rooms. And that sucks! It's out of my control. I hope that was fixed in the sequel, I haven't played that one much. Even with its flaws, Spelunky HD is a wonderful roguelike that feels like its fun scales with how you like to play it. I have fun both when doing slow, methodical runs, or blasting through as fast as I can. It's great!
This is one of my favorite indie games of all time. There are no upgrades or anything to help you when you fail, you just have to get good to surpass every random obstacle the game throws at you. It's infinitely replayable thanks to the randomness of each run, yet has a high skill ceiling. I won't ever get tired of this game.
Una obra maestra, Una carta de amor a los juegos desafiantes. 1000/10😎👍
what else is there to say? It's the best one of its subgenre and refined the formula so well that it kicked off a decade+ of similar games.
