After something like five years, I have around 480 hours into Spelunky 2. This is the second time I've owned it, so my Steam version isn't indicative to my playtime. Regardless, I cannot recommend it enough! While I had started both Spelunky HD, and Spelunky 2 at the same time, the description for Spelunky 2 is correct. It expands upon everything the first one did well... -almost. The score for S2 is good, but it's not as catchy as SHD and is rather plain at times. The artstyle of SHD lends itself better to this genre of game, but both SHD and S2 look great in their own ways. While I have completed both main questlines for each game, SHD is an easier title, but it controls so much less fluid. It's a slippery, heavy-controlling game in my experience. Swapping between the two really shows this difference. For that reason, I pick up S2 more frequently even if it's technically harder. What I realize about Spelunky in general, is that it's akin to meditation. With the Daily Challenge, I can start the game, advance in the Daily as far as I can, then close the game. For a lot of my time spent on it, this is just how I've played, and continue to play SHD/S2. With how many options there are for play, you can just sit down and try a new method each time. One of the best design choices in Spelunky, I believe, is the achievement system. It's a journal instead of a plain list, and like I mention with play method, these go hand-in-hand motivating the player to try, and try again. You can consistently aim for better progress with being bored. Any of the three Spelunky titles will punish you. If difficult games are not your strong suit then maybe stray away. But if you can muster the courage and strength to keep trying, it's very rewarding. But y'know, skill-issue.
Good
Game sucks.
Worth the wait 100%
9/10. This game is not for the light hearted. It is a difficult game where every time you do it makes you think "now why did i do that?" But... after getting past the first, second and third world the game becomes so much fun it starts to become addicting.
honestly just looking at the trailers and reviews and actually playing it im very satisfied with my purchase. very fun game in my opinion
