About
Species: Unknown is a first-person survival horror game, playable in co-op with up to 4 players (private or public servers) or solo. You play as a mercenary sent aboard an abandoned spaceship. Your job? Execute high-risk contracts, make it out alive, and claim your reward. But keep in mind that you’re not alone. Something is hunting you…
Form a squad of up to 4 players to take on different contracts with escalating difficulty. Each mission plays differently depending on your objective, your teammates, the map and which of the 5 intelligent threats is stalking you. No one survives alone, but you can try.

Proximity Chat & Radio are available: distance matters, walls matter. Proximity Chat is bringing more tension, sometimes chaos, and unforgettable moments to your co-op sessions.

Every contract drops you into a different nightmare. Whether you're tasked with extracting a black box, capturing or eliminating an unknown threat, or even destroying the ship to prevent the creature from escaping… Each mission demands a specific strategy and none of them are easy.
The specimen is chosen procedurally from a growing roster of terrifying monsters. Each one comes with distinct behaviors, hunting patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. You’ll need to investigate your surroundings to gather vital clues and identify the threat in order to proceed smoothly (or not). Do your job and get rewarded, or die without anyone knowing.

Strategize as a group, make smart use of your tools that can turn the tide, if only for a moment:
Motion Tracker : Detect nearby movement and prepare for what's coming
Shield : Block deadly attacks and buy time for your team
Health Syringe : Heal yourself or allies in the heat of battle
Mini-Map : Navigate pitch-black corridors with real-time positional data
Guns won’t always save you. Some threats are too resistant or simply untouchable. But the right weapon, found at the right time, can help you push through or even take the creature down.

The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Completing contracts earns you credits you can use to:
Upgrade your gear
Buy new tools
Customize your appearance
Gather lore and build your own creature museum

extremely fun game

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 18.86/day in the week to Jul 31 → 19.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

love the game cant wait for more species to come out 10/10
Рекомендую эту игру для компаний достигших 4-х человек. Имеется прокачка, сбалансированные противники, их в соло можно проходить, предметы и др. вещи, потраченные 11ч не в пустую!
great game, wish it would stop crashing
Тентакли пожевал, но где очивки??????
Honestly loving this and really looking forward to new content!
Scawy
While I do recommend Species: Unknown, it comes with a well sized note. First, it's a really great game with a great amount of challenges (some close to impossible). The visuals are great and fit the premise. The audio is well designed and keep you on your toes for the most part. On paper, it's a really great horror/action mix! And there's the large note that has to be taken into account: The game promotes to play as a team with 3 other players, but lacks proper team-building system and adaptability. For example, you can't join any games mid-session. I can understand the reason why in a sense that you don't want a session to suddenly turn in the balance of the player just because an additional pair of hands to hold a gun (or tools) appears. With that said, why not giving the players within the actual game the ability to tie an incoming player to an unused revive station and revive said player at the cost of 1 respawn? Or maybe allowing ONE set of player(s) to join in mid-game from a 2nd entry point on the map such as with a 2nd ship coming in? This limitation break one fundamental point of a game like this: if there's no game in the Lobby, regardless of how many games are there with slots open, you cannot join anybody. And another problem right now comes from the fact that: A) You cannot see what kind of difficulty a host select for any game from the lobbies browser. You see names, languages, but there's no way of knowing if the host is planning on playing Hard or Easy or in-between. B) Many current active player are at a point where they are able to survive lots of stuff that new players can only dream of being able to do. The game has a sort or persistent unlock system that allows player to purchase tools and upgrade stats (like how long your flashlight last, how long can you run, etc.) Some monster are simply impossible to survive if encountered by new player because their stamina is too low and some monster are relentless. Now, I'm not writing that veterans in this game aren't friendly. On the contrary, I haven't met much toxicity as a new players from those who have played the game much more. That doesn't remove the fact that I felt powerless in face of 99% of the stuff in this game because the only players I found I could play with are those who play on mission that has 4 effects active on the map (like no weapon, power cycle, monster active from the start, etc.) As a new player, you'll commonly feel like that guy/girl in action/horror movie who get left behind as every one flees and get killed by the monster as you end up on your own as your stamina bar depletes 2x faster. It's not as bad as some other games because even if you get killed fast (or before you find an available revive tube) the other players can share their bounty with you so you may progress even in failure... but that requires you to stick around while spectating everyone as they do everything after your death which might comes as soon as 5 min into a game that last 25+ minutes. If you can find or bring 3 players who have progressed as much as you and play mission together, this game is a gem. Otherwise, it can bring mixed feelings.
its scary and cool at the same time, and its rlly fun
