1st Impressions Video with Commentary! // Oculus Rift + Touch // GTX 1060 (6GB): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmmS5lGtEKE My quick thoughts: A charming puzzler with some very unique light based mechanics. This has quickly become one of my favorite puzzle games in VR, along with great titles like Xing, Fishermans Tale, Moss etc. Do not miss this gem!
Spark of Light tells the story of the little lanky boy Nerow, who has to live with friendly giants in a very dark world, because the mean dark moth king has kidnapped the sun. Now it is very dark in the kingdom. However, our hero can hope for the help of the fireflies that are scattered and hidden everywhere and who are at his side. They help him to interact with the environment, supply devices with steam or motivate the other residents to help our hero as well. The machines in this fairy-tale world, where Nerow in his oversized green dragon pajamas gropes around, are very reminiscent of steampunk machines, but with fireflies as their energy source. The great thing about Spark of Light is that the levels are built in 360° around the player, just like a huge interactive living diorama that is always changing. So you always have to look around to find new clues or fireflies or other helpful items. The graphics are very nice for a ported MobileVR game and the lighting effects look good. The individual levels are designed in extraordinary detail. The cuteness factor is further increased by the funny "non-language" of the actors. Nerow and the inhabitants of the world gurgle and coo rather than speak. The puzzles work and are well elaborated. Every single level has its own character and matching puzzles, which brings variety to the 5 interconnected worlds but rather short game. Spark of Light certainly gives the impression that it is a simple family game, this is not quite so. It is certainly not too difficult but the sometimes slightly tricky puzzles give even the experienced puzzle player a nice task. Which of course can be solved cooperatively within the family circle. Allegedly Pillow's Willow plans to create a whole series of games in this extraordinary 360° world. The sequel is called "Pillow's Willow" (^^) and revolves around a girl named Willow. She also wears dragon pajamas, which are much too big, but in pink. In Spark of Light we have met Willow a few times, after all we have to save her and the kingdom... Spark of Light is a very nice game. The Dutch have managed to create a fun 3D puzzle game in a great game environment, the graphics are well designed and the puzzles are challenging. The story is suitable for families. A recommendation. A cute, well-polished game. Takes 1.5-2 hours to complete. Not much content, but the quality is very high. It's a work of art; The type of experience I like to support. There's a demo, so you have no excuse to not try it. The puzzles are easy. So, not very taxing, but it's fun to watch things play out. The gist of it is this: you move lightbugs around to activate things. The character moves on his own. You just remove the obstructions. It's just fun and a joy to be in this tiny world. It's like a diorama that surrounds you. Because there's stuff behind you, I did have some trouble with tracking (I don't have 3 sensors), but I worked around it by always having a side visible. I was a little turned off by the baby babble of the main character, but the charm of this world won me over. Also, at first, I didn't realize you need to watch the lightbug to advance to the next level. Great game. Hope to see more.
+ Nice innovative fairy tale puzzle in VR with beautiful graphics and music. No motion sickness thanks to roomscale gaming without artificial locomotion. Several hours of interesting gameplay. - Some bug in 3rd level: 1st bee stay near the bells house after putting the spark. After restarting the game this bug didn't happen again, so I finished that level. 8/10.
Hi! I own this game and I wonder.... it tagged as "seated" but in fact it`s necessary to complete turn around. The Szenery is in front of you, around you and unfortunatly also behind you. You can use a turning wheel (don`t know the word) but it?s NOT SEATED as we all know it. I will test the game later but this is what you have to know: play it standing ok, seated ... no It`s in my opinion NOT OK to sell this under "seated"
very cute and the puzzles are just right so you do not get stuck too easy
Wow, enchanting experience, very well done with lots of detail and thoughtful puzzles. Took me just over 3 hours to complete, such a great experience and I want a part 2 (says "to be continued" at the end of the game). Be aware there is a bug on the 3rd level, another reviewer described: Sometimes the bug-man gets stuck just outside the horn/bell house, preventing you from getting past and continuing. If that happens, just restart the level - worked for me.
If you have a Valve Index, good luck getting past the menu screen. Or maybe that was just a puzzle I couldn't solve!
Very cute game, reminded me something between MOSS and Witchblood. Well made, works perfect on my Oculus even using Steam VR (I have nvidia 1060 6gb gpu, which usually causes performance problem on games without Oculus SDK support. The narrative is nice, controls are well made for the touch controllers. Have a very good impression so far, but will update my review after playing the game for a while.
