Игра возвращает в былые времена, когда в подобное "гамали" на игровых автоматах, оплачивая денежки в монетоприёмник... Ностальгия с одной стороны, и весьма лёгкие достижения - с другой.

Space Beret is a top-down sci-fi shooter developed and published by Amaterasu Software that embraces the spirit of classic arcade action while introducing enough modern mechanics to keep the gameplay engaging. Rather than relying on an elaborate storyline, it places players in the boots of a lone space marine fighting against endless hordes of hostile alien creatures threatening humanity's survival. The game's straightforward premise allows the action to take center stage, delivering an experience focused on quick reflexes, constant movement, and relentless combat. Fans of old-school twin-stick and arena shooters will immediately recognize its inspiration, but Space Beret manages to establish its own identity through its satisfying combat loop and rewarding progression. The game offers two primary ways to play, each designed to appeal to different types of players. Campaign Mode provides a structured sequence of missions where increasingly dangerous alien forces stand between the player and victory. Every stage gradually raises the challenge by introducing tougher enemies and more demanding encounters, encouraging players to learn enemy behavior while mastering their growing arsenal. Survival Mode, on the other hand, removes any defined ending and instead focuses entirely on endurance. Players battle wave after wave of enemies while attempting to survive as long as possible and achieve higher scores. This combination gives the game welcome replay value, especially for players who enjoy chasing personal records and improving their performance with each run. Combat is where Space Beret shines the brightest. Movement remains smooth and responsive, making it easy to dodge incoming attacks while maintaining offensive pressure. The game features several distinct weapons that encourage different combat styles instead of simply offering stronger replacements. The assault rifle provides dependable all-around performance, the shotgun delivers devastating damage at close range, the minigun overwhelms enemies with an enormous volume of fire, and the Gauss Rifle rewards precision with powerful shots capable of piercing multiple targets. A particularly enjoyable feature is the weapon upgrade system, which strengthens guns by collecting duplicate drops instead of constantly replacing equipment. This creates meaningful decisions throughout each mission and gives every weapon long-term value depending on the player's preferred strategy. Power-ups further enhance the action by introducing temporary advantages during intense battles. Protective shields offer breathing room when surrounded by enemies, while drones contribute additional firepower or defensive support during particularly difficult encounters. These upgrades help vary the pacing of combat and provide satisfying moments where players briefly gain the upper hand against overwhelming odds. Although the progression mechanics remain intentionally uncomplicated, they successfully add depth without sacrificing the game's accessible arcade design. Enemy variety also plays an important role in maintaining excitement throughout the experience. Fast-moving swarm enemies pressure players through sheer numbers, aggressive charging creatures punish poor positioning, and larger armored opponents require patience, careful aim, and constant movement to defeat safely. Because different enemy types often appear together, battles demand more than simply firing continuously. Players must prioritize targets, manage positioning, and adapt their tactics depending on the situation. This steady evolution of enemy encounters prevents the gameplay from becoming repetitive too quickly despite its relatively simple core mechanics. Visually, Space Beret favors clarity over technical spectacle. Its clean top-down perspective allows players to easily track enemies, projectiles, and pickups even when the battlefield becomes crowded with dozens of hostile creatures. While the graphics are modest by modern standards, they successfully capture the nostalgic feel of classic arcade shooters. Explosions, weapon effects, and enemy animations provide enough visual feedback to keep firefights exciting without cluttering the screen. Complementing the visuals is an energetic electronic soundtrack that maintains a fast tempo throughout the action, reinforcing the game's frantic pace and encouraging players to remain constantly engaged. Despite its strengths, the game does reveal its limitations over extended play sessions. The absence of a deeper narrative, limited environmental variety, and relatively straightforward progression system may reduce its long-term appeal for players seeking a more expansive experience. Once every weapon has been mastered and the available modes thoroughly explored, the primary motivation becomes improving survival times and earning higher scores. Fortunately, the responsive controls and satisfying gameplay loop are enjoyable enough to support repeated sessions, particularly for fans of score-driven arcade games. Space Beret succeeds by focusing on what it does best: delivering fast, satisfying alien-blasting action without unnecessary complexity. It combines responsive controls, varied weapons, meaningful upgrades, and challenging enemy encounters into an entertaining package that respects the traditions of classic arena shooters while incorporating modern conveniences. Although it lacks the scale and production values of larger titles in the genre, it offers an enjoyable and polished experience for players looking for accessible, action-packed gameplay that rewards skill and persistence. Rating: 6/10
