👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
English: ----------------------------------------> Shores of Loci by Mike Teevee is a chilling 3D puzzle in which we puzzle together small islands to create small dioramas. Unfortunately, Shores of Loci should rather be called Shorts of Loci, because there are only four worlds so far and if we hadn't paused in between, we would have stayed far below the magic 2h. Shores of Loci is set in a Dali-like surrealistic world. Wonderfully drawn environments in glorious pastel colours await us. We stand in the middle of each of these landscapes and a stony giant hands us the pieces of the puzzle. At the beginning, of course, everything is quite simple, but logically the following puzzles become more and more challenging. What is relatively unique about Shores of Loci is that with the completion of a puzzle we only receive a part of a large diorama. We don't have hands to grab the puzzle pieces or pull them up to turn them in the air at will, only two gnubblish gnubs. But no matter, we can turn the puzzle pieces in all directions. The top and bottom are designed in detail to make it easier to put them together. If the pieces fit together correctly, life often comes to life on them in the form of funny little people trying to walk the paths of the dioramas. There are such subtle clues as well as clear ones, but also a hint system that helps us when we get stuck. We have often come across parts that we have had to fiddle with a few times, but on the whole it is really not difficult to put the objects together. And that's also the big but, Shores of Loci, with four worlds and the same tasks over and over again, is just too little for the full price. Either there will be more promised content or better wait for a sale. Still, thumbs up for the gameplay. 👀Come with me to the island on my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
This reminds me a lot of what was going on back in 2016 with VR. There's a sense of epic, awe, and the magic only possible in a VR environment. Those pioneering demos like Irrational Exuberance, and early simple games like Water Bears really sold what was possible with VR. This game is exactly what you show to people that are trying it for the first time, everything here captures that magical feeling i first had 6 years ago. One thing i'd like to point out that others haven't really delved in to, nothing here is stylised. Everything is super sharp and finely detailed, again harking back to the early days. One or two issues. Like pointed out in another review, it's easy to overdo the grab when hauling in the pieces from any kind of distance. They do come back most of the time, there was a couple of times where i had to look around, perhaps an option to turn down the strength of the grabbing action. Another slight issue was probably more on me, playing seated and with the index controllers. I got the feeling the game would be more enjoyable standing up and walking around the build. Once it starts getting a bit big, rotating it with the grip controls on the index with a few standing pieces around you becomes a little cumbersome and cluttered. I enjoyed this a lot, if for nothing else in reminding me how cool VR can be. Hopefully the game does well enough to see further environments and builds added. Not hard for me to recommend, just like everybody else that took the time.
Loved this puzzle game! Graphics are amazing and 3d puzzle element was fun and entertaining. MORE MORE MORE LEVELS PLEASE!!!!! Revision: Once the game went to full version it is buggy with pieces of the puzzle going underneath the floor and you have to blindly press the trigger in order to find them to finish. Until this gets fixed, I can no longer recommend this game, It's so frustrating!
I voted Shores of Loci for the Sit back and relax-award with, in my opinion, good reason. The game is essentially a puzzle. Y'know, the kind where a number of pieces fit together in a certain way to make a picture. In Shores of Loci you do that, except you're puzzling together a place. Not just any place, mind, but a series of places, grouped by different architectural styles and surroundings. The places are even inhabited by, well, some sort of inhabitants, going about their business. This is to me, at least, very relaxing. While the puzzling may occasionally throw you for a loop, there's no pressure, no leveling or score to be chased. Just the finishing of another intricate place to enjoy looking at. The graphics are gorgeous! The controls are simple. The pace and the places are relaxing. Coming back here every now and then is a bit of an antidote to hectic life in the real world. A pocket-sized vacation, if you like. PS. This runs without a hitch on my aging system. (i5-8400, GTX1070, Rift S) PPS. The devs have recently added a mumber puzzles set in a new place. I'm looking forward to the trip!
The game starts well, but eventually the pieces you need disappear under the ground you stand on, and it's impossible to continue. I was able to get through level 1, but at level 2, I was unable to see or get the pieces I required to assemble the landscape. Poor design in preventing the needed puzzle pieces from being visible, or even available.
Game is amazingly beautiful and very satisfying to play !
Playing on Valve Index, works fine. For all 4 puzzles 2 hours playtime for me. Initial review: I have only finished the first 2 puzzles, will update again later. Such a beautiful game! The environment and the puzzles are amazing to look at. Controls are good, the menu also shows your progress, which is nice, and the music is very relaxing. You have the option to reset your progress for one level or the whole game, in case you want to play several times or with multiple persons (no separate profiles though). The puzzles I've seen so far are very detailed and look great. The first one was still pretty easy, the second one is a little harder already. Still doable so far though. I love that snapping sound when you push together the right pieces, so satisfying! I like that you actually have to take your time to look at those beautiful puzzle pieces to see how they fit together. It's kind of challenging and relaxing at the same time. Update after completing all 4 puzzles: It took me about 2 hours in total. What I wrote at first is still true. The puzzles seem to not be ordered by difficulty, number 3 and 4 felt easier for me again. I also discovered more of the hidden clues on the pieces as I went, so that could also be why. Anyway, very enjoyable and relaxing game, I'm sad that I'm done already. But in the end it said more levels to come (yay!) and I'm pretty sure I'll also be able to repeat levels without getting bored.
Really pleasant jigsaw-esque puzzle that uses the VR space well.
