The Inner Friend
The Inner Friend is a surreal trip of an experience, an introspective journey into the childhood of one particularly troubled and faceless anomaly. The game is presented in a tension-building sort of horror format, and it incorporates a seriously unsettling atmosphere that tells its story through little words and mostly visual cues and symbols.
A Surreal and Morbid Nostalgia
Lights flicker ominously and doors creak open while eerie mirrors crack and break leading to new ominous rooms, there are no cheap jump scares to speak of or gratuitous gore to come across and gross you out with but the atmosphere and the building of tension makes The Inner Friend feel completely spooky. The gripping tale of an indifferent youth just makes it feel involving and engaging, and for some perhaps will even hit a little close to home with its emotions. What you do come across is the psychological terror of childhood traumas and adolescent fears captured in set-pieces of obscure visuals, and absolutely chilling sound design to carry you through in the most unsettling of ways. This is after all a horror game at its core, but its still very much an artistic one. The story in The Inner Friend is purely metaphorical outside of the events being connected around one center protagonist, a scornful and outsider sort of a youth. The events themselves have no real concrete structure to them or even dialogue to explain things away, but they have a story that can mostly be figured out by the player through visual cues and symbols. It's all very surreal and requires a mostly open mind to plunge into, but those initiated for more experimental and thought-provoking gaming experiences will be more than pleasantly surprised with the strange and beautiful journey offered here.
Gameplay
The Inner Friend offers a good amount of gameplay variety throughout its nightmare-fueled story; Creepy decrepit old hags chase you through hallways of mirrors with scissors in a scene reminiscent to the classic Clock Tower villain in tense chase scenes, while ruined old antique classrooms hold progressively harder light puzzle solutions to solve. Bright red oppressive lights dissolve you instantly in stealth scenes that force you to stay in the shadows of statues made of other lost children souls. While some of these sections are definitely a bit more obtuse than others (for me it was the light puzzles that felt tedious) they flow quite well and never overstay their welcome, with new interesting mechanics and scenes being thrown at you at a constant pace.
Final Thought
The Inner Friend is definitely an experience first and a game second, and one that will stick with you in the recesses of your mind long after you play. It has a severely affecting story line and depending on who you are, what your past is, and how much you relate with this angst-ridden young protagonist the wordless and purely visual plot structure will either make sense to you right away or leave you scratching your head in confusion. For me it was the former, and the symbols and metaphors strewn throughout The Inner Friend stood out to me as clear as day in their hidden and morbid meanings. If you're the type of person that isn't afraid of trying something new and opening your mind and ears to a different sort of story, this is an artistic and surreal horror journey worth taking for anyone interested in such subjects. Super recommended for horror enthusiasts and fellow art weirdos. An incredibly surreal experience that seems to offer something new with each section. You'll find puzzles, platforming, stealth sequences and quite a bit more with this game. It's not always terribly scary, but instead very thought-provoking, as you face childhood fears in varied environments. Visuals and audio are high quality and also incredibly interesting in how they help tell each particular story. Performance hasn't been an issue either. The only downside is that it's a rather short experience lasting around 2 hours. It's different from the usual in a really good way. I'd recommend this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kNtYlEQHWU
If you're into puzzle, combined with horror genre, a dark theme and artistic levels, then this game is perfect for you. Had fun playing it. Took me 3 hours to complete. I had to think a little: 15 euro for 3 hours gameplay? Ummm, I belive it had to be 10 euro. However, considering they put much work on art and level designs, I can't complain

Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
You play as a shadow, your inner friend who helps you overcome your darkest fears and traumatic memories from when you were a child, through solving puzzles and finding your way around obstacles, all while taking on and defeating your nightmarish foe to finally overcome them. The game starts with you looking down on someone as you float above them; it seems like they’re having some sort of nightmare as they toss and turn screaming out in pain, holding their head in their hands. You notice that their face is shining white, and they stop moving as you move closer and closer, feeling yourself drawn into the white face. You start to free-fall, what looks like connections within the brain. Finally, you stop falling and appear in a room with a bed and toys all around the place, paper planes hang from the ceiling - this place looks very familiar to you. You look around and notice that there’s no door but there is a hole in the wall, and upon checking it out you notice it seems alive, almost breathing as it stretches into the distance. You enter, and as you go further in you start running as you make your way towards the end. You reach the end, start to free fall again towards a bright light below, then buildings appear before you, all weird in shapes but some of them have bright white lights protruding from the windows and doorways. You fly towards these buildings to investigate; landing on one you go and have a look around, but there’s nothing of much interest except for those with the bright lights. Upon checking them, you find a portal, and jump in wondering where next you’ll end up. You re-appear from the portal in a dark and mysterious place; it looks like an old school - your old school - and everywhere seems dimly lit. You decide to take a look around and notice there’s nowhere to go except down some stairs. As you reach the bottom you enter a large room; on the far side you spot someone, they seem to be in some sort of trouble, they’re banging on a metal barrier which has them trapped, trying to draw your attention. As you near a huge shadow appears behind them, followed by a scream, then they’re just still - lifeless. You then notice some sort of red beam which is attached to them, like something is draining them - but what? And where do these beams go? You continue to investigate this eerie and mysterious place, with bodies all around frozen still, like lost souls stuck in one moment of a memory, and more of these weird red beams which go through walls, floors and ceilings. As you continue forward searching the place for clues, you come across a classroom which you remember from your childhood (not one of your happiest memories); it’s then that you notice the source of the beams . . . it’s a monster, horrible and ugly . . . a teacher, with homework, everyone’s nightmare as a kid! From here you’ll have to figure out how to defeat the monster and free those caught in the beams so that you can overcome this bad memory once and for all! You will have other traumatic memories that you’ll have to overcome as you progress through the game. Solving puzzles and obstacles which bar your way in each of them. Collecting artefacts and notes will help rebuild your safe place, protecting you from your darkest fears. The game is played out as a visually-driven narrative and is very well done. The background music is very good and gives a nice atmospheric feel to the game. In the settings you’ll find Graphics (Gamma, Display Mode, Resolution, Vsync, Texture, Shadow, effects and Post Process Quality). For Audio, there is Music and Sound volume, Keyboard and Mouse (Rebind keys, Mouse Sensitivity), Controller and Language (choice of nine different languages). Positives + Very enjoyable game + Great visual story + Great atmospheric music + Achievements Negatives - No cards yet Solve puzzles, find ways past obstacles and overcome your darkest and most traumatic memories as a child in this fantastic visually driven story. 8/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via THE CPT FROGGY CLUB! No gameplay at all, huge level with nothing in it. It is a walking simulator for 16.99$ and not even 2 hours of gameplay.

Another brick in the wall的一句歌词。 We don't need no education. We don't need no thought control. No dark sarcasm in the classroom. Teacher, leave them kids alone. Hey, teachers, leave them kids alone! All in all it's just another brick in the wall. All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
