Another game where I wish steam had "I guess" or "Yes, if on sale" as an option for if I recommend it. There's really not a whole lot going on. I beat the whole game, including retries on some stages to get an S rank and the "DLC" which is just three extra missions as Shadow, in less than 7 hours. That's not great for a $40 game. Good: -The stages with Classic Sonic were pretty decent. They weren't stellar or anything but they fit the retro Sonic game formula well enough -There are a good amount of clothing items for customization -Eggman was one of the few characters who was consistently compelling and fun to listen to the entire game -The secret/bonus stages, even though there are barely any, are actually fun. They're like little obstacle courses, I had a good time with those -All of the stages have a lot of possible routes which is neat -The music was terrible. I know this sounds like a bad thing but Sonic music kind of has to be so bad it wraps around to being fire and most of the tracks in this fit that perfectly -The game has some cool visuals. As lame as he is in every other aspect, Infinite's got a neat design and some of the stages aren't too bad visually Bad: -Most of the game is a lot of nothing. You just run full speed through basic Sonic stages while other characters tell you about stuff happening on their end that sounds far more interesting than what you're doing. Most stages you can just hold down the boost button, jump a few times, and then you're done. On stages with your Avatar, it'll be like "go in and cause a distraction!!!" or whatever but again it's just you running through the stage. You don't do anything. Nothing you do as any character feels like it has any impact. -On that note almost none of the side characters do anything either. They're just set pieces, like they tell you they'll "support you" but they never show up in the stages, never actually help you or send items or fight anything, don't contribute to the story, it's all just for show -The Avatar's mouth is huge for no reason and it looks so strange -There's really no reason to explore any of the alternate paths in stages because they just lead you to a few more rings or a red medal which doesn't do much. I think they unlock bonus stages sometimes? The game's not very clear on that -Classic Sonic's presence is given what's probably the worst explanation in any game I've ever played -Infinite's backstory is...............not very interesting once you learn what it is. I thought that it'd turn out Infinite was a product of the Phantom Ruby, like it basically willed Infinite into existence but because he's not a clone of anyone he assumed he was real and that he controlled the ruby, not the other way around. Nope. -The first song in the end credits is legitimately good and it has no place in a game like this. It's the kind of song you'd expect to hear in the credits of a game with a detailed, heart-wrenching story that's finally over after what feels like a long journey. This is not that kind of game. -Dialogue is just flat out bad except for Eggman's and occasionally Sonic's. Tails' is the worst in my opinion but everyone just spits out generic vaguely inspirational lines and exposition now and then and calls it a day. I don't know, like you can see the pieces of a really cool game but they're smashed together to make whatever this is. Hopefully Sega takes another stab at a game where you can make an avatar and does it right. Otherwise, get this on sale. I'd say it's good enough to be worth it if it's between $5-$10. Absolutely not worth it at full price.
The game in my opinion is fine, But the fact the custom character creator doesn't even get to actually speak in the story kinda screws with things, I think the game could've been better if they didn't make Tails a coward, What happened to the fox that believed in himself? Now he's just relying on Sonic to save him, He doesn't even try to do anything here and beyond this game, Tails could likely just be replaced at this point and only die hard Tails fans would notice, Same thing with other characters, We need more gameplay besides 2 Sonic's and a custom character with literally zero unique powers. But the gameplay is fine. It just should've had 2 player split screen it least, Because the only way to enjoy a bad game, Is when you do it with someone else, Although I did enjoy this game more then frontiers, Mainly because its overrated. And well.. The story start up is dry like almost every new sonic title nowadays, I really don't understand why Sega won't just make games for other Sonic characters, the only other one who gets games now is Shadow, We need Tails to have his own game where they finally fix his character, And as for Silver his character has so much potential but it was just wasted instantly, We need more multiplayer games as well, I just wish Sega could finally start locking in for once. I want to see more sonic characters with their own unique games and playstyle, Not just copy and paste slop. At this point the movies are better then the games nowadays, I'm only leaving a positive review because I have faith in you Team Sonic.
painfully boring
HORRIVEL
