this game is a true arcade classic and one of those hidden treasures that instantly reminds you why old-school shooters became so legendary in the first place. what makes it even more special to me is that it was a gift from Thaii, which turned every stage and every high score attempt into an even more memorable experience. at first glance it may look like a simple vertical shooter, but after a few minutes you realize there’s much more depth hidden beneath its retro presentation. the fast-paced action, the constant enemy waves and the satisfying feeling of upgrading your ship create an experience that remains incredibly addictive even decades after its original release. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3741454675 one of my favorite aspects of the game is how rewarding the upgrade system feels. throughout the adventure you collect power-ups that gradually transform your tiny fighter into an absolute flying powerhouse capable of covering the screen with destruction. every upgrade feels meaningful and exciting, making survival easier while also encouraging you to push further and chase even better runs. unlike many arcade shooters where you simply dodge and shoot, here there’s a genuine sense of progression as your ship becomes stronger and more versatile with each successful stage. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3741454726 another thing that keeps the experience fresh is the variety of enemy formations and stage designs. every level introduces new challenges, forcing you to stay focused and constantly adapt to different attack patterns. the pacing is excellent because the game never gives you too much time to relax, yet it never feels unfair either. each boss encounter serves as a memorable test of both reflexes and strategy, rewarding careful movement and smart use of your upgrades. despite its age, the gameplay still feels smooth, responsive and surprisingly engaging from beginning to end. and of course i have to mention the incredible arcade atmosphere. from the retro visuals to the energetic soundtrack, everything works together to create that magical feeling of standing in front of an arcade cabinet determined to beat your previous record. there’s something timeless about its design that makes it easy to understand why so many players still remember it fondly today. even after completing a run, you immediately feel tempted to jump back in and try again, whether to improve your score, experiment with different upgrade paths or simply enjoy the action one more time. slap fight may be an arcade game from another era, but its charm, challenge and addictive gameplay remain just as powerful today. thanks to Thaii's gift, it became much more than just another retro shooter in my collection, it became one of those games attached to a special memory, making every flight through its dangerous skies even more enjoyable and unforgettable in the end, i can easily recommend slap fight to anyone who enjoys classic arcade shooters, retro games and old-school challenges. i’ve always loved this style of game, and slap fight delivers everything that makes the genre so enjoyable: fast action, rewarding upgrades, memorable stages and that irresistible ,just one more run, feeling. whether you're a longtime fan of arcade shooters or someone looking to discover an important piece of gaming history, this is definitely a game worth experiencing. for me, it was an absolute blast from start to finish and one i’ll happily revisit again and again. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3741454766 #Nocticula #Raven #HarleyQuinn #She'sAwesome #She'sSweet #ThankYouMyDearFriend #ForSharingYourGamesWithMe #ILoveYouuuu 🔥🎮❤️
It doesn't crash at all on release day. I'm very happy with the purchase! It has the usual Toaplan Bitwave features. Practice, Save States and the (broken) Replay feature. Much recommended!
This is my all time fave arcade game, spent alot of coins as a kid on this one, so good to see this one get a release as was always fairly rare to come across it in the wild, great emualtion from bitwave, biggest thumbs up possible for this game and the new qol features added in this release. could we get some platformers too? snow bros would be great!
It is another unfair arcade vertical shooter. It has a relatively complex upgrade system which isn't clear, and is not explained in game. Basically you collect stars, and the exchange stars for the most expensive upgrade you can afford. If you didn't spend your stars they loop back to one with no refunds. Your starting speed is extremely bad, it's basically unsurvivable. And if you can evade in the beginning of the game while you are upgrading your speed, when you die on the advanced bullet hell stages and the game resets you to the lowest speed, you can do nothing. Other upgrades you can purchase are an ability to shoot sideways, increased firepower, temporary shield, and different guns. Unlike most of the games in the genre your main gun has very limited range. Bombs supposedly have better damage, but their range is also lacking. Lasers have good range but absolutely terrible DPS. Only the seeker rockets are a good choice. "Wings" upgrade increases your firepower. But while the effect is obvious with half the weapons, bombs and missiles don't look that different. First upgrades are applied directly to the ship. But the last two add chunks to the sides, which have individual hitboxes (per tier) and make you very wide. You can try to avoid enemy fire during the mid-game, but at the endgame the screen is filled with bullets, so it's impossible to keep the side wings. This one is a great release. Even if it has crashed on me one time. You can become a sportsmen and train to beat this 15-minutes long unfair game created to steal coins on one life. You can insert infinite virtual coins and try to play with continues. You can use save-games between the levels. Or you can rewind. There are sufficient display options. There are no stupid baked-in envelopes for the render, and there’s screen rotation option, allowing you to properly play it on your 3//4 vertical screen.
its a classic .lovely presented and beileve it or not. reason i got a steam deck. well one of them. i lool forward to picking up many more of my favirote coin ops
Plays well on Steamdeck A very fun game
I'll just take the Genesis port with the cool arrange mode. This one is not well-emulated, features are not well-coded. You know the drill. Every port is always rushed.
