Ouija Rumors is an entertaining indie horror game. You play as a father looking into the death of his estranged daughter using occult methods that go awry. This game has a few story depictions of child abuse, but nothing too obviously visual. You have to read the memos and pay attention to the fractured "memories" to piece this together. This indie game was made by ONE PERSON. Keep that in mind. Is it going to be buggy? Yes. Is it going to be a bit janky? Yes. Is it still absolutely fun? YES! It only takes about an hour or so to complete, so enjoy it for what it is -- janky indie horror with a decent story and silly jump scares. I fully enjoyed this, but I went into the game expecting nothing out of it and came out laughing, screamed a few times, and had a good time. PROS: *Good jump scares *Decent story, but could use better explanation *Simplistic controls CONS: *Very abrupt ending *You can die from a few entities, but it's not really explained that you needed to run or not get close to them *Few physics glitches were I was able to go out of bounds (via jumping on boxes/furniture) or keep running with no invisible wall to stop me (ending area) *Candles burn too quick & there's not enough *Can't delete lighters, but they don't seem to run out of fuel (possible bug) *I wish the ending was choice based instead of forced (though it worked the way it was laid out) https://www.seravium.com https://twitch.tv/seravium
I didn't expect much from this game. I did end up enjoying the game for the most part. The story does contain some dark topics (
child abuse, self harm/suicide
), which ends up making the game surprisingly sad. The sadness does seem to balance out the satanic/ouija aspects. The game isn't very long (when you don't get lost/confused like me due to the game's brightness). All of the game's horror is reliant on jumpscares and noises, which is fine. Except for the first jumpscare (which can kill you), the jumpscares are superficial. Though, the game did very well starting the game out with a jumpscare that can kill you as I spent the entire game trying to run away from basically nothing. But, the last (and second) moment that can kill you is a nonjumpscare, which I wasn't expecting. The graphics of the people and ghosts are a bit weird. For example, the faces look a bit waxy and sometimes body parts turn see through. I only experienced bugs in chapter 4 and the last chapter. I found a doorway into the game's void and later fell through the floor into the void. Thankfully, I had saved right before then. The game gives an option to drop items from the inventory, but it won't let you remove lighters from the inventory. I'm also not sure why there were so many opportunities to pick up lighters (I think I found a total of 4 or 5) when they can't be removed, especially since I was blindly picking up items at times. Since the lighters can be used indefinitely, I find it a bit odd that there's so many lying around. The candles also burned really fast. There are a lot of typos and grammar errors (such as "girl is dead" instead of "girl has died" or "foul-play" instead of "foul play"). The game definitely needs more proofreading. The esc button doesn't actually pause the game. My big issues with the game is that I don't like timed chat boxes, it would be nice to control the speed of the dialogue as I'm a fast reader and waiting for the next line is a bit annoying. The game's menu and action font is a bit hard/annoying to read with lowercase e's being inverted. The game's brightness is extremely dark. It would be nice to have the option to adjust the brightness in-game. I know the point was to use the candles to see in the dark, but it's still hard to see with my laptop's brightness up all the way. But, since you can see inside the entire room from the doorway, it doesn't make any sense that when you go into the room, it gets darker. With how the game's brightness is set up, it was easy for me to miss items because I simply could not see them. While I enjoyed the story, it was weird to think that a 6 year old would be able to write very well, let alone spell everything correctly (she also used words that children that age and time would not use). Despite my issues with the game, I did actually end up liking it. I'd still suggest getting this on sale as $4.99 is a bit too high for what you're getting. The game IS short with quite a few annoying aspects. I do recommend this game to horror fans who are looking for a mostly casual horror game.
I keep getting bugged out of the elevator and I can't go past the chapter 4 RIP.
I am really not sure why this is rated positive, the noise is just to loud.. loud does not mean scary. It is just headache inducing
I really liked it. If you're into horror games that you play casually for fun and don't want overthink some of the puzzles this is for you. I found some things hard to navigate and had to resort to walk-throughs to get me through it but still this game really made me want to get to the end! Good jump scares, dark story, will play again.
