Classic point and click game in the best way possible - great to catch up with Simon the Sorcerer again!
I really enjoyed the game. It was beautiful and I loved the characters. I do have to agree with others that if one had not played the games or become familiar with the way the puzzles are made, it can be confusing. You almost have to guess what to do or just randomly combine or click. For instance, how was a person meant to know that they were supposed to do spells? Once you see the light switches and how that works, it is easy but not at first. There just isn't enough leading. One must find and use a walkthrough. The only other issue I had was that the fast travel wasn't very fast and I am not a fan of having to click to walk 3 feet, click for another 3, and over and over like that. Of course, this is just me being nitpicky in case we are allowed to get another remake. I would love that and would definitely buy and play. The little lizard could have a game of his own. He made me smile every time.
Great
Not a great point and click adventure unfortunately. Most of the puzzles have zero clues, progression is achieved by either combining everything every time you pick anything up or by googling a walkthrough. Very frustrating
Animates nicely, funny narrative, bit of nostalgia thrown in, could be a little more difficult but satisfying all the same.
Does a great job transitioning into the first game. Couple of "oh yeah this is an adventure game" type puzzle annoyances.
Overall I would recommend the game if it is on sale. It has some moon logic which is typical for the series. But the main fear, making it a prequel was unwarranted: the story and the character of Simon work really well. The art-style is beautiful but in some close-ups they do look a bit too much like sketches. The main problem is that using items in a wrong way or on the wrong thing in the game-world just gives you a generic "this doesn't work" even if your halfway there with the solution. There were several instances when I gave up on a train of thought but it turned out I was just missing a step but generally close to the solution. The game would be a lot less frustrating if these quips would be a bit more helpful at times.
