this game made me sad ;( i was so hyped and i absolutely loved simon 1+2 #1 this game has so many inconsistent illogical riddles, for example: - incense hanging directly next to a small cabinet but you need some random stick from the other side of the town to get it down, you know boys cannot climb and there is nothing in a church like candelabras or something... - you can take a trolls LUNCH without him caring! but cannot push a handle because youre afraid what the troll might do... (in an unlazy game you would push the handle, then have a animation how the troll comes back and pushes it back up or something like that and not some cheap phrase that prevents it) - whenever you want to try your spells on something that is not intendet you get a response as if it was something a rascal like simon would neeeeeeever try! like "i am not allowed to do this" .... really? #2 which is fitted by the inconsistent lazy artstyle: - only the main characters seem to have gotten some love, background characters look cheap and like drawn by someone else... (see troll above he doesnt even have a stand up animation or anything, he just vanishes. this goes on and on) - everything seems to be floating through some lazy 2d bitmaps, you can especially see this with the boat where the water seems to belonging to the boat bitmap and has nothing to do with floating water animation. the "moving cardboard" style might be ok in a more "3d" environment with shadows and stuff, but here it feels just out of line and cheap. #3 storywise i don't know: - i am (only?) at chapter 7 and until now it was super "meh" maybe there is something still waiting for me? hope never dies.. #4 the jokes are sometimes really funny like you are used to in simon games, - but one of their favorite jokes (about 50% of the jokes are variations of this one) is "simon sees something disturbing but doesnt seem to care and accept it at first but then says something like "hey wait a moment". - about 30% are jokes from the old games.... which of course are funny but already known. - and a lot of the remaining jokes seems to be h.... p..... related since you know we are in a wizarding world... #5 my reccomendation: better go replay the originals or if your crave for a remake really doesnt let you skip this, wait for a sale around 5€ edit: when meeting the witch the feeling of lazydev has even gotten worse. only one self solving riddle the rest is only (really there is nothing more) references and jokes relating to the old games to surf on the nostalgia cashwave... before that for example not even an animation or anything when opening the gate to the town, just one picture changing into another, not even removing the bar first or anything. this game is so cheap i dont know what the devs were thinking? the regular price should be 5€ and even then you should wait for a 50% discount. may i still hope it will get better towwards the end of the game? + the swampling is interpreted as a crocodile instead of the slimy swamp creature he used to be ;(
I really, really wanted to like this game. I grew up with Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2 being some of my most beloved games. The title song alone sparks joy in me. Well, this Origins title is something different. Strike 1: Graphics Gone is the charm of the precise pixel art. What we get in advance is an art style I wasn't able to force myself to like. I was able to digest similar shift with the latest Monkey Island for instance, it worked a tad better there. Not here, unfortunately. The art style did not seem detailed enough to carry a game like this. Strike 2: Insufferable brat of a character In this title, Simon is far more insufferable than ever. Maybe it is my memory failing me, but I do not recall Simon being anywhere as insufferable in the early games. Strike 3: Jokes & Puzzles The jokes did not joke, for the most part (at least with me), the puzzles were sub-par in terms of logic, compared to other good point and click games on the platform. What a shame and wasted opportunity.
I've played nearly every point and click, mystery, detective, you name it, game out there andthis is by far one of the worst game play experiences I've ever had. Nothing about this is intuitive, the mysteries and next steps make no sense, and the actual game play is so aggravating. I shouldn't have to click 10 times to get to the next "room" or area, right next to me. The visuals are great but everything else about this is infuriating. It stays in my library as my game to play when I truly am out of options.
I've played games in the Simon the Sorcerer series that I knew about, but from what I saw of games after the second one, things didn't go well for the series. Some of the later titles were not great or one I never knew were available. Even so, finding out about this game, I was amazed at what I saw in the trailer, and playing the game, I am happy this title was made. I love the story and game world to explore, the puzzles are smart, and I love the humour in it, including the cheekiness of hinting towards it being a prequel. The return of Chris Barrie as Simon's VA is a welcome relief - though the guy who played him in the second game was not bad. The graphical presentation of the game is brilliant, and I really hope they work to make another title after this one.
Fun and nostalgic pnc. Great animations and artwork. Some puzzles could be better. Welcome back Simon.
My honest review : I would absolutely recommend this game, despite... - the fact that it's very short - the fact that the animation doesn't feel "old school" but rather "low budget" - the fact that the (english) voice acting is really not great (it will often feel like they didn't get the jokes) However, despite this, this is still a great point and click and if you've ever played Simon the Sorcerer, you'll enjoy this very much. If you've never played a Simon the Sorcerer game but like point n click games, you'll still like this game :)
Simon the Sorcerer Origins hat mir echt viel Spaß gemacht. 🎮
В том же Rusty Lake или Chants of Sennaar полно всяких головоломок, да даже в стареньком The Neverhood есть чем заняться.
