Reviews
My comfort game whenever I'm bored and don't actually want to do anything. It's the only singleplayer game I regularly go back to whenever I don't know what to do.
A classic I come back to once every couple years.
well, i'm about 195 hours and several years late for this review, so the only thing i want to add to the Very Positive reviews is: the music is really, really good. my usual joke is, video game music should never be too good. what you want is evocative music that stays behind the scene. this is it. also, RUN THE GAME FROM THE STEAM PLAY BUTTON. and choose DX11. do not run from the desktop.
As a long time Civ player, I really tried with this game, but it consistently let me down. There were many frustrating moments. The one unit per tile mechanic was always cumbersome to manage. Civs would always settle as close to you as possible and denounced you if you did the same. There was no inherent mechanic to integrate or vassalise city-states. You couldn't remove your own roads or improvements. Civ territory always felt vague and arbitrary. No tech trading was a let down. Religion in particular was not well implemented imo. Why should I be forced to get great prophets at a certain faith level? And at a certain point the prophets were useless, I couldn't even convert my own improvements into holy sites. The game has plenty of good points. The graphics are great, combat is fun, music is top notch. But the game is just too frustrating to play compared to previous entries in the series. Get Civ 4 instead or, if you can, Civ 2 Multiplayer gold.
I've played Civ since it's inception. Civ4 was amazing, but brutally hard. When I played V, I thought I'd need to start at difficulty 4 because of how hard Civ4 could be. Civ5 sucks at difficulty 4. It's easy and uninteresting. It got way better at harder difficulties.
its good
