The World Beyond Mental
We do not know Mental, and yet his name continues to resonate. Wherever we venture, his controlled hosts — mindless, headless, or unearthly beings reduced to mere servitude — breach every sanctuary. They conquer each corner of this world, much as we ourselves have done through the pursuit of science. My sister and I arrived in the Sierra of Chiapas. Yet something felt uncanny. It was not the jungle itself that unsettled us, but its very placement. We were told that the pyramid of Teotihuacan lay nearby, though such a monument belongs nowhere near this wilderness. Perhaps they seek to subjugate us through bewilderment alone. Before we press onward, I might venture to say that true seriousness now lies in refusing to be confounded. Our feet were already heavy with weariness. We came to a halt. Before us lay a profound chasm, like a cenote. We swam down into its depths, refreshing ourselves against a heat that drew sweat from every pore. The shadows cast by the trees, and the scent of aromatic herbs, bestowed the sensation of an undiscovered paradise — one woven with enigmas, a place where few souls tread and leave with their lives. Having renewed our spirits, we pressed onward. In the distance, we discerned pyramids whose portals would ultimately cast us elsewhere, into another epoch altogether, revealing architectures wholly unlike those we had known. Yet something remained concealed. Our hearts sensed it already, and so we resolved to explore — to practise archaeology. We were in pursuit of the Grail. We whispered it to one another constantly, like a mantra. Yet to reach the far horizon — though we are explorers far more than chosen warriors — we first had to traverse the labyrinth, a place laden with snares. The darkness is dense. Torchlight, so often swallowed by the embrace of night, scarcely managed to unveil the painted chronicles of rulers and forgotten traditions. Everything now is cloaked in silence. Our footsteps harvest echoes that ripple through one chamber after another. We become acutely aware of our own presence within this solitude, where the inhabitants have vanished entirely. Is this the seriousness by which we are tested, as we traverse corridors and chambers strewn with traps? Or does it lie in crossing those vast halls and gardens that seem, at times, to have no end? It is a monumental trial. But of what nature? Endurance? Persistence? Perseverance? We stand before immensity, before the open expanse: that which is woven between nature and civilisation. It seems we are more than explorers or warriors. We are witnesses, bound by kinship to these great civilisations, distinguished by something Mental can never achieve: the grace to pause and contemplate the wonders of an alien world without seeking to seize them. My sister forged the path ahead. She taught me how to overcome the snares. She pointed the way. It was this that delivered us from the equinoxes upon the pyramids, from the darkness that concealed the traps, and from the sprawling courtyards of what seemed to be Mesopotamia. And so we pressed on. Our resonance lay not only in remaining together through every obstacle placed before us, but also in our willingness to pause: to catch the scent of the Mesopotamian grass and its tiny hidden blossoms, just as we had in the Sierra of Chiapas, watching the sun as it was born and as it slipped away. Seriousness is no longer found in taking up the weapon. It is found in our willingness to stand before the open expanse, and in our resolve to persevere — much like one who endures excessive heat or torrential rain. Yet we do not do this alone. We share the weariness of the journey. The enemies approach in droves, controlled and devoid of alternative choice or known desire. They possess no purpose. They are merely bodies casting themselves forward, screaming or opening fire. Everything charges from ahead, seeking to halt our progress. Yet this is not about power. It is about the possibility of something far simpler: to pause, and even to draw breath in this place where our footsteps echo and we wear our little red trainers. To feel and to understand, as witnesses, that which remained concealed from the rest of the world, and which now asks the world itself to bear witness to its presence. And so we embark upon the final stretch. One last step. Fatigue is an inherent part of our presence. Therefore, we know exactly what to do. Together:

Same game as the first but just as good. Also love how the box art now makes Sam look like Tim Allen for some reason lmfao.
