It is fine for the first hour or so but it gets monotonous real quick. Navigating the temples in the first couple maps with relatively thoughtful enemy placement, spawns and interesting level design with sneaky secrets was the highlight of the game for me but it went downhill fast from there. At some point it gets really tiring having the game spawn 100 enemies on you every 10 steps, sometimes behind or on top of you, generally outside of your FOV so they can get cheap shots at you. When you have too many troll moments in a game it stops being a surprise or amusing and quickly turns into an annoyance, I did struggle with a few sections in a way that didn't feel very fair and I didn't enjoy that at all but still overcame them. What I couldn't overcome was the boredom from having to clear every single enemy to move from section to section, room to room. The gunplay is fine, it does lack a bit of impact and punch due to dated visuals and sound design but is otherwise responsive. The main character doesn't talk or give one liners or smartass remarks nearly as often as he should. The voice acting is funny though. The graphics are of course extremely dated but for me they are kinda amusing as they tickle my nostalgia of a time when games looked very, very simple. Although the environments do look very barren even for old standards. I can't really say much else about it cause there are no progression mechanics, no interactions with anyone, no well presented narrative, not anything to do other than shooting and looting ammo, health drops and such. It is just that much of a simplistic game. Doom clone I believe FPS enjoyers call it, I wouldn't know as I'm relatively new to this genre. So yeah, it is okay at the start but it drags on and gets so repetitive. Now I could be more lenient on it as I probably got it as part of some bundle or maybe even for free, I couldn't tell you really but I somehow own all Serious Sam games. Point being it isn't like I paid its asking price if anything at all, but I still won't give it a Recommend cause it kinda sucks. Go play something better.
A Must-Play for Serious Shooter Fans
Serious Sam Classics: Revolution is a unified Steam hub that bridges The First Encounter and The Second Encounter into one seamless, chaotic package. If you think you are good at FPS games but have somehow never played Serious Sam, you owe it to yourself to test your mettle here. The main novelty of this package is Bright Island, an exclusive 8-level bonus campaign. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite live up to the legacy of the main games. It feels largely unbalanced, suffers from pacing issues, and features massive encounters that drag on far too long compared to the tight, frantic design of Croteam's original levels. But even with a mediocre bonus campaign, the core package remains a truly hardcore, old-school first-person arena shooter that stands as an absolute must-play for every fan of the genre. Pros: Great level design with numerous secrets. Brutal gameplay and awesome arsenal. Enemy variety. Great soundtrack. Visual variety in levels with good graphics. Cons: Some enemy placement and arenas are very annoying. The new campaign is disappointing.
Every few minutes, desync causes my friend to shoot walls or be invisible. If the game kicks me out of co-op, trying to rejoin freezes the entire game. Only play this if you are more patient than Jesus.
Misleading name, its not serious at all.
Я всегда с собой беру БЕ-НЗО-ПИ-ЛУ! Включаю вечером погромче, чтобы соседи тоже покайфовали от старой классики.
