Survival as Testimony: Until the Last Witness Stands
We had slipped into the very arteries of the canyon. The heat was immense, thick with a strange, almost rejecting atmosphere, as though the world itself refused our presence. Above us, the clouds bruised into darkness; a storm was gathering, inevitable, like a thought that cannot be delayed any longer. My sister and I had travelled far—wandering through these endless seas of sand. Beneath the searing sun, the primal ache for water, and the quiet, almost desperate longing for the sanctuary of a palm tree’s shade, were not the only forces that urged surrender. Yet we answered. We endured. Within these vast, echoing arteries where the path refused to yield, even the hollowed bodies and alien hordes descended upon us, as though intent on bringing a mercifully cruel end to our passage. We were destined to travel into the past. From the moment of our arrival, humanity lay in ruins. Scarcely any survivors remained. The world we once knew had been buried beneath rubble, shifting sands, and the oppressive breath of an unforgiving earth. And yet… this was a weariness we already recognised. We had to seize a final chance—journeying back into the past, to a point where, as we have witnessed and shall witness again and again, the profound loneliness of the world reigns over the remnants of long-vanished civilisations. Could it be that with no humans left, with no civilisation remaining save for these ruins, this world possesses no other witness to what we have done? It feels as though our mere presence—under the solemn condition of surviving here—announces existence through action. Perhaps this is the true seriousness of it all. We exist through what we do. And yet… what kind of action leaves a trace upon desert sand that might rival the pyramids, the Egyptian temples, or even this city of ghosts and decay? Is this clash against the alien hordes our way of carving a monument into the sand? To grow earnest upon the battlefield, to dress oneself in the gravity of an arsenal—does this become our signature upon the earth, fleeting yet insistent, and written into the memory of Mental? We look upon ruins, tombs, and temples submerged in absolute darkness. Is this our ultimate doom—to become oblivion itself, or merely a trophy claimed by Mental? And yet… to battle the hordes, to dance within the very heart of combat, perhaps grants us another possibility: to become the living memory of two souls, two hearts that refuse to yield, even when all is already in ruin, already beyond repair. We walk through the dark. My sister leads. We navigate deep, shadowed pathways to ignite the batteries of the time machine—the TimeLock. In this vastness of night, where everything seems capable of deception, our torches do not merely reveal what is hidden; they negotiate with the darkness itself. It is not only endurance, nor the frantic violence of survival. We are, as final witnesses, tasked with testimony until the end—accepting consequence together, resonating as one, leaving footprints side by side. And so, even here, in the caverns of night, amid the cryptic silence of pharaohs long departed—whose stone inscriptions remain the last vestige of those who once lived and inscribed themselves into time—it does not mean there is no way out. There is. The air grows sweet, almost cool again, and light returns to us as a memory returning to the body. We survive not only through action, but through our fragile capacity to pause, and to contemplate the final wonders of this desolate world. But if we truly resonate side by side, can this world be called desolate at all? We still hear voices—echoes of Hellfire—and suddenly, even laughter breaks through, a brief, almost defiant jest in the midst of ruin. The aliens notice, of course; they rush forward, as though desperate to silence both our laughter and our unyielding persistence. It matters not that our deeds, in appearance, seem to follow no grand design. The mere act of resonating together—of choosing to protect one another—already leaves a trace, even upon our own souls. I watch my sister as she holds back the encroaching hordes. And there, in the heart of the desert, we find a fragile patch of shade, and we pause—to rest, to eat, to drink. The heat is immense. Even the air and the ruins feel close, almost suffocating, as though memory itself has weight. How different they are, these enemies—bereft of will, stripped of soul. They will never leave a true mark upon this earth, moving only as they are commanded in mindless waves, sacrificial bodies under absolute thrall. Without choice, without determination, they leave no legacy; they are only carried forward by something that is not their own. We see the end now. We escape. And yet… we shall find another chance, another dawn, to show the universe that this world has not been left without witnesses—that even in dust, a footprint can insist on remaining.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
