SEEK is a Survival Horror game that last around 6 hours. It share the likes of Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill, and Signalis. If you are a fan of it, you will definitely have fun! Summary: Your dad brought a mirror home that has an origin in a abandoned orphanage. Then the next thing you know, you are in the orphanage yourself, with nightmarish creatures that never seems to stay dead. You have to find out the cause of this nightmarish world and end it once and for all. My praise for this game is the use of the atmosphere to create an environment, sometimes it is the dilapidated hallway that tells you, yes it is an abandoned orphanage. Sometime it is the metal floor and generator hum that tells you yes, this place is cold and there will be monsters there. Sometimes it is the classical music and warm light or cozy room that signifies that you are in a safe area. The story overall is straight forward and you will empathize with the characters in the game without it being dramatic. It is grounded and relatable. The variants of enemy is abundant to keep you on your toes and none of them feels unfair to deal with. (I finished this on Normal difficulties.) In terms of the survival/resource management part of the game, again it is fair and enough to the point where there is enough ammo and health for you to mess up a few shots, but also spreads out enough where you will actively save the "big shots" for dangerous enemies and bosses. However, the first critique that I had for the game is the translations. I don't care if English is not your first language and the dialogue comes out funny as a result, just as long as I can still deduce what the game is trying to tell me and I can solve the puzzles in the end. But in various points in the game, I had to go "Is this what the game is trying to tell me?" The most memorable one is regarding the hint toward the usage of the "Lily key". Basically it said: "...for the staff accommodation area. It can open all the doors in the building..." So which is it? Can it open all the doors at least in the hospital areas, or just the accommodation area? It is just the accommodation area... Second, close quarter aiming is almost impossible. There are various parts in the game where the enemies are just one or two steps away from you. But because the circle of direction is really sensitive the closer your cursor is, it means that if enemies got way too close, moving your mouse a little bit could mean either your aim went up or down, or even 180 degrees backward. I always had to run back further before I take my aim. Third, the pacing is a bit off. I will divide the game into 3 chapters, Chapter 1 = Normal Orphanage. Chapter 2 = Hellish Orphanage. Chapter 3 = Apartment building. With intermissions and boss fights in between. Chapter 1 takes over 60% of the game with Chapter 2 & 3 share the remaining 40%. Which leads me to my next point: Back and forth. All survival horror games will have back and forth elements in it to keep player moving throughout the map. But in SEEK you can tell when you have to go to the other side of the map. Enough to the point where I start to felt annoyed when I was playing. Overall, I really enjoyed playing SEEK despite its limitations as those limitations are not game breaking, they are just annoying when you notice it. As I run from puzzles to puzzles, I was able to achieve all the necessary requirement for a good and satisfying ending which warms my heart! So good job cloud_li, looking forward to your next game!
I havent even finished it yet and i already love everything about it.
Good, kinda reminded me of RE2.
