I bought this game as an incremental player who wanted the satisfaction of the slowly building cascade of bounces and block breaking. What this game really is, is a top-down bullet-hell shooter with upgrades. I just don't think it lived up to it's potential fun and scale. That's another thing, the scale of the game is kinda weirdly small for an incremental. There are extra difficulties, but difficulty is not what this game needed. And assumedly the difficulty changes don't change much in terms of content or upgrades, or levels. It is a cheap bullet-hell, but not a good incremental.
There's been a rash of these low effort incremental games, lately. Upgrade trees all look the same. Content is brief. There's really not much here. The price is right, but I would happily pay more for a full game. I noticed that a lot of the sound assets were identical to A Game About Feeding A Black Hole. Godot doesn't offer asset packs by default, but maybe there's some assets that these devs are all using? This one had potential. Enemies look inspired by diep.io, it runs well, it has a good loop, and there's a lot of room for customization, but it's not realized. Edit: Just noticed it's the same devs as A Game About Feeding A Black Hole. That ended up being half-baked and abandoned, too. It's unfortunate, because there's potential in all of these games, so it's hard to tell if they are just churning out new stuff as a cash grab, don't have follow through, or if it's something else. Save your $3. You'll beat the normal mode in an hour or two. The other modes are just punishingly difficult.

TL;DR: Orb Breaker does not do a great job of mixing the short incremental gameplay loop with the bullet hell genre, and it lacks in terms of strategy building. I played Orb Breaker for 25 minutes and found it lacking, especially in its upgrade tree, level & enemy design, and pacing. It was fun until the first boss arrived; then it became increasingly frustrating. The core gameplay loop of Orb Breaker consists of surviving gameplay instances to collect enough money, and then attempting to kill the boss of each level once you get enough funds to upgrade your character. This is the same loop for many short incremental games, but you are often not attacked by tens, if not hundreds, of bullets in the meantime. Due to how the enemy and boss spawn system works in this game, it essentially becomes a "tile-breaking" game until you have enough funds, and only then a bullet hell once you have ground for long enough. At the fourth level, the arena design got worse, the enemies got shields, and I dropped off at that point, because optimizing numbers to beat the game stopped being fun and became frustrating. Not because I died or am bad at the game; the strategy-building part just doesn't work well when it comes to optimization in short incremental games. One reason I picked this game is that I adore Astro Prospector, and it was an excellent mix of a short incremental game and a bullet hell, but Orb Breaker doesn't do a great job mixing the same two genres. In the end, I can only suggest that you get Orb Breaker if you can't get enough of short incrementals. Otherwise, you can skip this one and wait for some updates or the next great short incremental game in the genre.
This is some half baked slop. That's mean, yes, but Honestly it makes sense. This game was made literally as a cash grab, simply make a game while we're juggling two other projects and ship it! That's what they did and the result is a waste of $3. Put more passion into the next :) it's the key ingredient and without it the game don't taste good.
I feel like this game has a lot of potential, but in its current state it feels really unfinished. I personally was expecting more interesting upgrades and weapons, but all I've seen so far is just a couple more bullets that shoots a little faster. I wish that the upgrades related to attacking were more potent and had more variability. As of right now, I can't honestly say I would recommend the game, but if there are some interesting updates soon, then I will absolutely change my review. Now for some positives; I LOVE THIS ART STYLE, it reminds me heavily of Diep.io and that was one of my favorite internet games growing up. Also the enemies are interesting and unique. I genuinely think this can be a great game, so please please please don't get too discouraged by all the negative feedback. I promise you the people leaving a review this early are the ones who want to support you and the games you develop. Also side note, I had no idea that this was only developed by two people, that's really impressive, and I look forward to yall's future games and updates to this one! <3
I don't know how else to put it, it simply ain't fun, the upgrades feel either meaningless or grindy and the progression feels equally meaningless, the boss upgrades should be significant
I really don't understand all negative reviews on this game which is not only fun but really cheap and the devs are constantly updating & listening to feedback. People don't realize their negative review can absolutely kill a game like this without many reviews. Seriously people, leaving a negative review should not be something you do often for indie games. Your dumb little thumbs down for a stupid reason or because a game simply isn't your type of game could contribute to a cascade of bad things for the dev. Sorry just had to get that out, think twice before leaving a negative review, and yes this is a fun game and definitely worth the sale price of $3. Do what I do, in most cases if you don't like a game, just don't leave a review, return it, and move on.
While the recent patch did wonders for giving the game a better progression, level 9 is still borderline impossible without some extreme amounts of luck.
